after a brief stop at the car and a delayer I set off on this. straight away i went wrong but didnt realise it till later. got lost and followed paths through the woods back to were i should of been but probably added well over a mile onto the walk. anyway made it to the top, great views from the trig point. followed my planned way back through a cow field and back to the car. got nearly 18, 000 steps in this day and a fantastic day it wasScotty 2 Hotty06/01/2024

If only every hill was summitted after such an easy ascent life would be so much better! Excellent, solid parking within the old Dalton Quarry. From here take the left of the two obvious tracks into the trees (opposite the entrance). This will eventually lead you, trouble free, to the trig. Summit slightly further away.moorsman14/07/2023

From the road between the two fells, a second circular walk after doing Farleton Fell. Took the path to Blasterfoot Gap then crossed many superb limestone pavements to the top. From road to N near Limestone Way crossing. More densely vegetated than any other limestone pavement I have seen: in places, limestone blocks are festooned by tree roots like the ruins of lost cities! Many butterflies in the clearings. Another 'interesting' visit to Hutton Roof. This time tackled it from fell road to north, visiting the 'new' high point cunningly detected by the Abney man. Those 60cm make all the difference! This is a great fell to get lost on.citygent22/11/2018

No. 3 of seven M6 Marilyns. From the quarry car park. Through the gate, up the clear path, cross another path and follow a nice path along a shallow valley bounded by low limestone crags. Left along the broad track in dark woodland, then follow your nose upwards. Forgot my compass, but it was pretty obvious where the top is. Great views.Gill26/08/2017

Repeat w Jenx from the North again, nr pt 192. Walk down the road a 100 m or so to another gate with path leading off. This heads direct to top, but then veers left around a fault line, stay with it and possible to follow a line when through this onto the summit plateau. From Cawthorpe to Hutton Roof road summit. This is definitely not the place for a quick bag. However, a great place for a confusing ramble with amazing scenery; watched climbers on Hanging Scar and perched on the sloping clints of The Rakes for lunch. Eventually I gave up working out how to get to the summit, returned to the road, and took a more southerly path. At a junction at the top of woodland I scrambled out into the open (rough paths) to a big cairn. After a while, there is a point which looks like the summit photo .It isn't- and neither is the summit photo. Go through a little path through tall trees and there is another little scarp and at last you get there. It all looks much easier from the S. The quality of the wildlife- even so late in summer eg Large Red Helleborines at 800 ft above s/l,Wall butterflies, very rare buckler ferns- is evident. This is wild Morecambe bay limestone with barely any grazing. If you like easy access, be careful what you wish for with re-wilding.pwheeler08/09/2015
Ronald02/09/2015
Parked at brow of hill NNW of summit. Made error of following path signed Hutton Roof. Realised I'd have to cut through bushes - nightmare - should have turned back. Should have parked a bit further south west in the layby by the interpretation board, from where follow a good path south east through shrubbery and bracken. Eventually path descends a little then doubles back by a wall amidst head high bracken (got a soaking) and at last open country to the trig and summit. Path south east is shown on my 1:25,000 map and the whole path is shown on the Topo map on my GPS. As far as I can see there's no alternative route from the north. Owing to huge amount of time spent forcing my way through shrubbery at the start I didn't have time for Farleton Fell which looks much more pleasant as it's proper open limestone country (no bushes) and can be accessed from the recommended parking place.ijpowell22/08/2015

I made a right mess of reaching this one from the north by initially taking the left instead of the right fork in the path not far from the road. I spent ages skirting around the summit and eventually going cross country to get there and ended up pretty damp. Nice top though.Father Ted14/06/2015
From Kirby Lonsdale (Devils Bridge) we follow lanes and cross the fields to Hutton Roof then up onto the vast flat top of the crag - a complex limestone landscape - trees - ferns - following meandering paths through the outcroping limestone we disturb a badger not aware of our presense (fab!). Eventually we find the top - its trig and views of the higher Lancashire / Yorkshire peaks. Our return similar but via different lanes.briandavies06/06/2015

Confirmed summit from Cawthorpe Lane.Eddie23/02/2009
From quarry car park. Lots of paths - tricky bit is working out the correct one. When you reach the wall (at right angles) you don't (from my experience) need to cross it. Follow it west then it bends around.destaylor22/12/2008

4th of the morning and the forecasted driving rain had arrived! Worth it to see the lovely bit of limestone pavement at SD 55506 76891.signyred04/03/2007

parked at approx: SD553762 I believe some call this Quarry car park. I found this a hard bagging. Climbed about 4 walls and searched for easy ways to summit. Lots of thorns.Jhimmy15/10/2006

Summit took some finding amongst the gorse and the limestone pavement. Was on my way from Dentdale to Arnside so didn't have a huge amount of time to spare!DanHolme09/10/2006

Attempted ascent from minor road to the north failed due to the overgrown nature of the hill in summer. Ascent from the south from the quarry car park was much more straightforward.JohnW13/08/2006

From Hutton Roof, plenty of bushes and limestone platforms to confuse the issue of where the summit is; but it may not be the TP.Aye Jimmy25/03/2006

The car was parked at Hutton Roof. Dropped via roads to Sealford Beck for the necessary height. Then back up the road onto the Limestone Link. This was followed until we were due north of the top.garyhoney28/06/2002
