Up from the top cp thru the mounds of rubble and the pit of despair to the unassuming summit. Fairly clear of brambles this way but not a top to repeat. | robphys | 14/10/2023 |
Parked in the upper car park of Dundry village and followed the track NW. Like others have found the fp S has moved further W to run past the first mast but still comes out on the track and gate accessing the industrial site. Site was active with some rock moving/quarrying going on and periodic tractors passing (this was Saturday late morning). Access to the trig point is challenging both in terms of brambles/overgrowth and terrain. Best approach seemed to be from the W across an open pit. There is a small mast on the high point. Not one to come back to. Good view of the Clifton bridge on the way back. | richard69 | 29/07/2023 |
With TD slight detour from the Forest of Avon Community Forest Path. | Firesidepixie | 23/04/2023 |
What an absolute dump… literally and figuratively! If ever we need examples of why agriculture & industry shouldn’t be allowed to spoil our hill tops and prime outdoor areas point them here. Lovely views over Bristol & S Wales from just north of top, but top itself is utterly ruined. From car park in Dundry village along RoW (very dog unfriendly stile & notices), no signage at track marked on OS where if appears RoW likely turns south (even though it’s shown turning S a bit further west where there is no path - discovered on way back it is actually signed turning S even further west. Took the track through gates & across field to yard/quarry; awful smell, wouldn’t like to guess what, but it was vile. Appears additional recent quarrying has happened since previous logs & satellite images as much harder to approach what is now a very narrow area left where trig stands; approach from south through cleared area blocked by thick brambles, although gained sight of trig. Approach from due wes | arrans | 09/04/2023 |
Route as per KevPalmer. Nice views from car park. Some false starts into blackberry bushes before I earned out the correct route to the top through the rock rubble. 1st Marilyn in Section 41, only 14 English Marilyn's left pleased I didn't leave it until last. | JulieB | 23/02/2023 |
On an overcast walk following the Community Forest Path from Clifton Suspension Bridge (via Stokeleigh Camp hillfort) to Hengrove. Nice hill, horrible summit! | thesweetcheat | 11/02/2023 |
The least said the better. | davechaffey | 10/02/2023 |
Parked by the gate next to the RoW to the south (ST 55217 66528). The gate has rusty farm machinery blocking on the inside so I don't think it has been used for ages. I had a bit of a flounder and scramble but found the Trig. This is a connoisseurs top. | DC11main | 19/01/2023 |
Soggy | heath | 01/01/2023 |
Not one of my favourite hills, but the views are nice, so long as you avoid looking at the foreground! | Nicky C | 30/12/2022 |
Parked at the Downs Road Car Park. Anti clockwise circuit along footpaths. The path that runs south appears to have been diverted a little and now runs past Dundry mast. Once the path has gone past where the trig pillar is there is no barbed wire or any fence for a short while so you are free to pick your route through the apocalyptic summit area back to the pillar. | KevPalmer | 04/12/2022 |
If you like views of urban sprawl and a summit covered in manure and rubbish, then this is the perfect hill for you. I don't think I'll be coming back. A short walk from the car park though. | sturuss | 17/11/2022 |
Easily to summit area from Downs Road car park, but what a horrible mess.Eventually found a way to top past green structure and through mini quarry.Limited views due to vegetation etc but pleasant on way up. | catman | 14/11/2022 |
Chose this one after a drop off at Bristol Airport. Up from the car park, great views apart for the 'tip' at the top!! | Buck | 24/07/2022 |
Parked at the tiny Downs Road car park and did a loop up to the top. Friendly sheep around but sadly the views from the top are spoilt by it slowly declining into being a tip! | jamiequackers | 20/04/2022 |

Lewesdon Hill, Hardown Hill, Beacon Batch, and Dundry Down in one day. Dundry Down Trig and top surrounded by piles /heaps of rubble | mazz | 25/02/2022 |
A memorable hill for my final English Marilyn! The trig is found by aiming for the mast. Parked in the village hall car park and walked up the road, ducked under the loose barbed wire fence and wandered across the private land without problems. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 14/01/2022 |
Morning stroll from Dundry Hall. Along the road chose the path past horses under barbwire rather than the industrial route... mmm ... glad over quickly. Next stop Final Marilyn Beacon Batch. | N.Morters | 26/12/2021 |
Dundry to Winford loop | whiskybottle | 12/10/2021 |
strange place, hadn't expected it to be like this! | richardrosser | 14/08/2021 |
Short walk from the car park. A barbed wire fence has been added to the attractions of the summit area | paulhilder | 03/06/2021 |
Visited several times the latest 7 april 2021. The trig pillar is adjacent to a small microwave repeater mast, surrouned by building rubble and local rock/quarry excavations | cjo | 07/04/2021 |
Bike ride went nearby so quickly clambered over the rubble. Not a pretty hill. | tomd4 | 03/04/2021 |

Last top visited on a 6 day walk from Brighton to Bristol. 23:30 for my visit so that certainly helped the aesthetics :). | Alex C | 26/09/2020 |
Parked in lane and walked up to trig. Can tick this one off the list. | Hippy77 | 14/08/2020 |
Midday, 25 degrees, sunny, with Bag For Life via shortest route. Whole area a mess, including pools of horrific looking dark liquid. The most interesting thing about the walk was that it's the first time I've knowingly met other baggers on a hill; pog100 and partner. | Wycombe Wanderer | 30/07/2020 |
Was great to meet two fellow baggers on the summit today, Wycombe Wanderer and Bag for Life, for a very nice chat in great weather. The weather made the top much more pleasant than expected, with wild flowers and birds all around and a great view. | pog100 | 30/07/2020 |
5/5 Parked near church. | Rounsfell | 28/06/2020 |
If, like me, you visit a lot of Tumps, then you will think that this is a perfectly reasonable summit. It's very untidy and there's a scrapyard next to the trig, but we're used to that kind of thing. Twenty minutes there and back from the car park at Dundry. Good long views, no need to climb fences. | Pete R | 02/11/2019 |
from Winford via Dundry Lane. Top resembles a tip. Good view of Bristol. | IanHHill | 07/10/2019 |
First of 3 walks today courtesy of the U2 bus: Dundry Down from Barrow Common. | Mark Jackson | 01/08/2019 |
Parked at bottom of Dundry lane. | Stevooo | 27/04/2019 |
Should be renamed Dundry Dump!. The wife was not happy about having to clamber over mounds of rubble and slurry. This is a disgrace of a summit!! On a positive we will never have to do it again | Jephcote83 | 23/03/2019 |
From village car park as others.Very messy when reaching the high point with panoramic view of scrap yard. | NormanW | 09/02/2019 |
As Dartmoorman, except after the kissing gate the ground has had lots of soil and rocks freshly dumped on the way to the thin mast and trig. Filthy but easily avoided. Great views of Bristol on the way. | iangalbraith | 07/01/2019 |
Pleasent drive and walkk | atreides7887 | 22/12/2018 |
As per 'Dartmoorman' who gives the clearest description - the foothpath shown on the OS map as going through the scrap yard is clearly now wrong - it has probably been officially diverted further N, then further W - if followed through as a circuit, it leads to the double gates to the S of the scrap yard (no suitable parking identified near these gates). | Isbjorn | 02/11/2018 |
1/6 Marilyn Day. Second day doing a round of those in South Central England. Started with an early 2km visit to Dundry Down, as others from the village car park. Off to Beacon Batch next. | silveracorn_alan | 01/11/2018 |
detour off M5 on way back to Cornwall. great view over Bristol. Summit itself is on private land. 5 minute walk from Village car park. Took footpath through field around farm rather than walk through farmyard. | Longwojo | 01/10/2018 |
Along footpath from the south. | Winterfloodian | 16/09/2018 |

Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log:

Parked at gates (N51° 23.767' W2° 38.712') which had lots of farm machinery behind them and didn’t look like they had been open for a while, near the warning mine shafts sign. Down track past caravans and of to the right (N51° 23.856' W2° 38.665') up to the skinny mast and trigpoint, be careful not to fall over the wires holding up the mast. Very messy area. Another trig that took longer than expected. Very surprised to find out the hill is a Marilyn! | thejackrustles | 19/07/2018 |

From Dundry CP on bend in road, pass through gate taking well signposted footpath. Walk in westerly direction with fence on left. Continue to corner of fence, turn south alongside fence heading between fence and large trasmitter compound. Continue along fence to a kissing gate, and head diagonally left up a mound with thin mast on it. Trig point is at base of this thin mast, overlooking unsightly scrap yard. Flat, easy walk, field was dry, easy access. Re previous comment, the Dundry Inn IS open and serving meals! | Dartmoorman | 04/05/2018 |
Packed the car in village walked across a field past the transmission towers and into a scrap yard with a trig in the middle very odd hill | jmistry86 | 04/03/2018 |
A dump, but a very easy one. | Gill | 24/01/2018 |
Parked in front of blocked entrance to disused mineshaft.
Only 0.2 miles to summit from here but fp is liquidised mud and summit is surrindee by discarded hardcore making for an impromptu scramble. Then sneak over low electified to bag summit and trig point keeping out of view of farm workers to the east to avoid GOMLencounter.
Short but good fun. Final Area 41 Marilyn. | mntainman | 10/01/2018 |
From the village carpark, FP west then south. The trig is on a portion of grass near an aerial. The top of the hill is a bit of a mess. | dal | 30/12/2017 |
With K who said 'this is a horrible place' | Ashley | 18/11/2017 |
8/8M last of the day in the dark from cp in the village. | robertphillips | 08/11/2017 |
From car park took path past masts and through scrap yard to summit and straight back. | dgresty | 11/09/2017 |
From car park used footpaths to get near summit, then last few yards a right mess. Smell noticed at one point. A small new mast has been erected near summit - beware wire stays which are a trip hazard. | AlanD | 06/09/2017 |
Good view over Bristol on the way there. Apart from that a total dump! | twg27 | 26/06/2017 |
TD, C & H | This Dog | 01/06/2017 |
We had lunch in the Dundry Inn which is lovely. The hill, however, is not. We did the short walk from the inn to the summit through a couple of pleasant fields then over several rubble heaps and past a broken toilet to reach the trig point. With Keith, Aunty Eilidh and baby Ross. | islamidget | 27/05/2017 |
An utter dump (in the true meaning of the word). I can't imagine there's a hilltop in a worse state than this one anywhere else in the UK. Access is easy enough from the village car park. | Richard | 06/05/2017 |
Both of us | Tonyandsue | 07/04/2017 |
Via FP from south. Very muddy track which had been churned up by big vehicles. Afterwards visited Dundry pub - which I strongly recommend - then bus back to Bristol | trimarc2 | 07/02/2017 |
5/5 Marilyns today. Parked by gate and picked way through horse manure and mud and rubble to reach trig (last twenyy yards is grass). True baggers hill! | SS | 05/02/2017 |
Purposely didn't bring the dog today as I didn't think he'd appreciate this one. From village car park first west then south just by the masts. Enter the compound via gate then circumnavigate the spoil heaps etc to find the trig point. H2S smell still present. Exited via the southern gate onto the lane. | Father Ted | 17/12/2016 |
Circular walk from car park above church. Best bits are the church and views of Bristol. New signs saying ' danger, mines' are not welcoming, nor is the strong scent of hydrogen sulphide from? Rotting manure. trig is in good condition on a bank with brambles overlooking farmyard with much apparently disused machinery. This appears to be the current high point but hard to say with rubble dumped in piles in area. | Denise | 07/10/2016 |
Not a very inspiring hill summit. Close to urban area and you can tell. | nickywood1 | 09/09/2016 |
Followed andy macp's log . Parked car park above church 556669. Through gate at back of car park, first gate on left, headed for gate to right of farm buildings then I went too far into dump trig is not far from gate. | rogreeves | 01/09/2016 |
From the village carpark along the public footpath heading west then turning north at junction past masts to the summit area. Any of the mounds could be the summit but its hard to tell what is natural and what is man made. A muddy mess and it stinks. | Swindon Bagger | 21/08/2016 |
From small car park in village, along PRoW to E of trig point & over rubble past a used bowl. Stunning place. Ok for wild camp. Solo. | CJM | 17/08/2016 |
Probably the most despoiled Marilyn in the world. An utter disgrace. | ngthack | 26/07/2016 |
From car park, great views, not a difficult walk but a few bits of rubbish in the way near the summit | r.ashwell | 11/03/2016 |
Approached from car park near church. Pleasant enough farmland until near the top, when it turns into a tatty farmyard with heaps of dumped soil. | Cas-gwent | 10/12/2015 |
Solo. Revolting top. | simon and co | 06/12/2015 |
Easy stroll from the Church. Pleasant winter sunset, and good views over Bristol. | huwthomas | 22/11/2015 |

Trig point hidden by heaps of hard core! | Poolton123 | 31/08/2015 |
Detoured onto the heaps of rubble on the way back from the western slopes of the hill to the car park in the village | Mariana Trench | 10/08/2015 |
From car park where east-west path commences. After approx. 200m turn south past aerial. Followed fence to pedestrian gate. TP on nearby mound with rubble piles spoiling the area. Fence line between TP and main scrap yard. Good views from footpath over Severn Estuary. | mike.hoult | 09/08/2015 |
From car park above church. Nice stroll with good views until you turn left towards the wasteland. | squeegs | 09/08/2015 |
amazing the trig still stands in a scene straight out of post apocalypse Britain. such a shame as i bet the view to Bristol and the estuary would bee a 10 out of ten. as it is the place is an absolute tip. the council and landowners should be taken to task over the site.
not that i will ever see it - once is enough. | stig_nest | 26/06/2015 |
From the car park at the church. Through gate and along track. Left through gate and straight uphill aiming for gate to right of buildings. Through gate and right through opening. Follow fence and newly planted hedge to trig. | andy macp | 21/04/2015 |
Started walk from The Dundry Inn, alongside the village car park a gate leads into an open field. A gate on the left leads you to a triangulation pillar at the top of Dundry down amongst a big cow shed, piles of tyres and old vehicles! | Suzyj | 25/01/2015 |
2/3 not the most impressive top I have been on...trig point only redeeming feature | Fergalh | 02/12/2014 |
A good car park at 556669. Take the path through the farm gate and head to the obvious high point on the left, through the gate to the scrap yard and the trig point is the only redeeming feature. | bolton | 19/11/2014 |
Second visit | PeteF | 25/10/2014 |
Walked from the British Legion Club car park in the village but a better place to park is by the gate to the field at ST 55634 66867. I didn't try to locate the trig point which was obscured behind some large barns. Operated near the barns for SOTA on HF then visited the nearby pub by the church for a swift pint before leaving, it was a pleasant summer evening. | G4OBK (Phil) | 15/07/2014 |
Not the most inspiring summit, scruffy farmyard/scrapyard. | rhalstead | 09/03/2014 |
Parking area alongside Dundry playing fields (557666) - West for about 500m along lanes to footpath by stables - N. along footpath/track for about 200m & then right for about 80m up mound to trig pillar. (S) | gerrybowes | 03/03/2014 |
ROW from South, Trig hidden behind piles of dumped rock. | tim747 | 06/09/2013 |

The walk from the car park near the church was pleasant enough with good views to the north but the scrap yard at the top gives this hill a unique character unlike anything else. Did Bono visit and was inspired to write the song 'I have climbed highest mountains .... but I still haven't found what I'm looking for'? | mindlessflogger | 05/05/2013 |
Good CP to west of church in Dundry. Very good views from Downs to north of top. Top itself a complete mess, it wont be long before the summit hillock and trig pillar are completely surrounded by the scrap yard! Small trespass from RoW required so best do on a Sunday when yard not open?
Church is excellent, but unfortunately looks as if the Dundry Inn has recently closed down? | Hillsidenick | 31/03/2013 |
walked from campsite in Norton Hawkfield on some very quiet lanes. Eventually found trig from the south. | Overthehilljill | 01/10/2012 |
Completed my English Marilyns on a rubbish dump! | Eddie | 20/07/2012 |
Attempt made from the North but the mud was to deep beyond the kissing gate. Thus i looped round to the South of the hill and got on the same track where it was a simple walk to the trig point. What an absolute dump though. There were great big piles of stone and mud near the trig point. | isabelle | 17/07/2012 |
W Jenx from CP in village nr church. BW on track to if Niger post! Leads to metal kissing gate and easy 50 metres to trig on high mound. Despite mess it's a grand view of Bristol amd channel. Back same way. Church and it's yard worth a visit | nordicstar | 13/05/2012 |
won't reiterate what others have said - not too bad on a sunny afternoon!! | gigglejon | 03/08/2011 |
Summit or spoil heap? | Isambard | 07/06/2011 |
From Winford Lane, returned by the village hall. The very top is a mound in a rubbish dump. The owners were OK about me being there when they knew I was bagging the Marilyn... guess they're used to humouring us. Nevertheless, this site could be a great community asset as a marvellous viewpoint, especially over Bristol. Instead it's an eyesore. | pwheeler | 21/04/2011 |
Short walk through snow to trig overlooking scrapyard etc. Maybe the snow made it all look slightly less horrific than normal?! | Aye Jimmy | 19/12/2010 |
Got the feeling that the land owner doesn't want anyone on his land, path signs smashed and entrances and exits blocked, had to tag this top without being seen. tagged it and ran | stevedixon | 24/01/2010 |
From the car park in the village of Dundry. Walked south along the road, a right turn leads to a public footpath at metal kissing gate. Not a pleasant hill! | David Gradwell | 02/10/2009 |
Walked from Barrow Common. A few remnants of calcareous grassland near the top which shows the potential for this hill to be so much better. | Herbert Anchovy | 16/07/2009 |

The top of the church tower seems higher than the trig. The kindest thing I can say about it is that it's not a pretty top but good views of Bristol. | signyred | 24/07/2006 |
What a mess. The worst summit ever! | Campbell Singer | 27/03/2006 |
Trig on mound in private land at back of farm, so made a quick, low-profile dash from nearest path. Maybe the only top with an aeroplane parked next to it? | wheresthepath | 26/11/2005 |
Not a pretty top. Dont leave anything visible in your car had mine broken into on a back road near the village | Rhayader_wander | 21/02/2005 |
Re visit with Denise on 07/10/2016. Trig pillar and high point now outside the fenced yard and easy to reach from path. Sadly still lots of dumped rocks/soil/manure in the area, the top of some piles higher than the trig point. Signs on fence warn of unstable ground due to the old stone mines. | RichardM | 21/06/2004 |
