Glorious clear skies, -9 °C at car park but a bit milder high up (inversion). Light wind so very pleasant on Glas Maol. Microspikes essential on frozen snow.NorfolkPT2112/01/2024
A round of tops: Meall Odhar, Druim Mor, Little Glas Maol and Creag Leacach SW Top via Glas Maol and Creag Leacach. Started at the Devil's Elbow parking area and walked up the side of the road to the top of the pass, then headed up the partially snow-covered path to Meall Odhar, across to Glas Maol, then countoured around the 1000m line to the bealach between Glas Maol and Carn of Claise. Before reaching Carn of Claise, headed SE up to Druim Mor. Returned back to Glas Maol the same way, and once again contoured around - this time to Little Glas Maol. Headed back to Glas Maol and this time reached the summit, before heading over the ridge to Creag Leacach, then around to the SW top, and then dropped down to just before Meall Gorm, then then down to All Coire a' Bhathaich, and followed that back out to the Devil's Elbow. Blue skies and freezing winds for the most part, though the soft snow with a thin crusty top layer made it a little tougher going than expected. Total Time 6h 43mimproudfoot06/01/2024

8.8 mile circular from small car park below Sron na Gaoithe. Up steeply contouring Sron na Gaoithe then easy grassy tracks up to Glas Maol's broad summit. From here we retraced our steps a little but then headed onto Cairn of Claise and finally Carn an Tuirc descending steeply to the path to Carn an Tuirc hut then following this back to car park. Amazing patchwork/sunny conditions with a light breeze. Great views especially from Cairn of Claise. From the Fife Lomonds south to Ben Macdui/Braeriach north. 760m ascent. Unsurprisingly quite a few people about.DanTrig16/09/2021

Carn an Tuirc (1019m), Cairn of Claise (1064m), Glas Maol (1068m) and Creag Leacach (987m), started just before dawn and was back at my car before sunset, 7.25 hours all in. Two tricky bits, on the ascent to Carn an Tuirc and the return leg on the west slope of Glas Maol where I had to use by cheap, but practical crampons. Also I saw several Ptarmigans and Mountain Hares.chillyman830/12/2018

Parked in the ski car park opposite The Cairnwell and made my way through the ski runs to the Munro Top of Meall Odhar. Then it was onto Glas Maol before dropping Southeast to the Munro Top of Little Glas Maol. The view into Caenlochan Glen was superb and was enjoyed as I skirted back round it to reach Druim Mor on the opposite side of it. Finally it was a quick ascent to Cairn of Claise and then back over Glas Maol and Meall Odhar to return to the car. A first for me was seeing a young hare being pursued by a stoat on the summit of Cairn of Claise, fortunately for the hare the stoat must have seen me and retreated.Peterb06/08/2017

Solo. From the car park at Glen Shee skiing area. Ascended to Meall Odhar and Glas Maol. There was a lot of snow – deep and soft in places – hard in others. Wore crampons for most of the time. Visibility extremely poor. Windy. Reached the cairn spot on after following the compass. Returned more or less the same way. The day before a cross-country skier had failed to return from the area to the north of Glas Maol. He was spotted on the Tuesday walking out! He had spent two nights in a snow hole and started going out during the third night. He should have got out earlier.pwbellarby19/02/1995

From the parking off the A93 near Gleann Beag. Using the path up Leacann Dubh meant a minimal encounter with the ski-ing area which was a desolate mess. Lots of snow but deserted because it was too windy. Good path continued to Glas Maol but covered in ice high up, where crampons were needed even though it isn't too steep. Back over Creag Leacach (qv); the starting point was convenient for that, too, as it was at the foot of the descent. Just the right level of commitment for a day of wind-blown snow and a few showers. The Cairngorms were in cloud and 200 ft high spirals of spindrift were blowing about on Beinn a'Ghlopwheeler08/04/1991

Solo 6 Munro round from A93 N of the Glenshee summit on a frosty, cold day. Left road at NO147799, crossed bridge & followed track to about 700m, then directly to top of Carn an Tuirc. Contoured round to Cairn Of Claise, out & back to Druim Mor & then Glas Maol. Dropped to Little Glas Maol, contoured round to Creag Leacach & its SW top. Back over underneath Glas Maol, over Meall Odhar to the ski car park. Crossed road, up Cairnwell watching a skier whizz past until he ran out of snow: his skis stuck in the heather while he carried on head first! Across to Carn Aosda & then NE directly to the car as it got dark.NotReallyABagger22/01/1989
