A walk with Alma Aurea up Fan Brycheiniog. We might have done a longer route but the good weather forecast kept changing and in the end we started late (and nearly didn't go at all). We walked up the valley to Llyn y Fan Fawr with the cloud just about clearing off in front of us, some showers and wind. It cleared off the main summit just in time so we continued up and finally the sun came out, but only late afternoon! So we visited Fan Foel and then Fan Hir on a ridge descent, but Bannau Sir Gaer - Picws Du will have to wait for another day. Beautiful once it cleared. /Dmeltdiceburg22/10/2023

From road at 856223 followed marked track. Too many tracks. Kept north of marked route, maintaining height. Llyn y Fan Fawr tarn made the day with it's lofty companion for a backdrop. Bring your cossy, one feller swinmming. Made up the paved steps to Bwlch Giedd. Easy climb on to the trig and cairn. Great bag. With Tiárnan.Pete West02/06/2023
Parked at tafarn y gareg, across the road through beautiful path across footbridge, steep path up to ridge then follow ridge all the way to stone hut at summit of fan brecheinog then to twr y fan foel, down steepish path here back to ground level and follow path SE to Llyn y fan fawr, very long and rough path back to start with a couple of pretty waterfalls along the way, 5.5 hoursTribal2er30/05/2023
Ascended Gwter Goch to the summit ridge from Llyn y Fan Fach - slightly grassy & chossy but well protected and a steady push directly up the cliff. Walked round the ridge to Fan Hir, back to Waun Lefrith & bivvied on the west end above Llyn y Fan FachBarns15009/04/2023

A superb cliff-edge walk on an extremely blustery but sunny day, taking in all the required tops of Fan Hir, Fan Brycheiniog Trig, Twr y Fan Foel, Fan Foel, Bannau Sir Gaer, and Waun Lefrith, returning via the cliff underface and its two sparkling llyns. With E. Parked on minor road to E (Bwlch Cerrig Dion) and followed small intermittent path past ruins to Llyn y Fan Fawr. Good picnic/drink stop. Then up path to Fan Brycheiniog - Trig Point where drifting clouds limited visibility along ridge. Continued onto Fan Brycheiniog - Twr y Fan Foel and then historic county summit of Carmarthenshire at Fan Foel. Returned by same route bagging Fan Brycheiniog South - East Top on way back. Great walk just a shame the drifting clouds on the day restricted our views.Beeliner13/07/2019

Walked west to join Beacon's Way at Llyn y Fan Fawr and up Bwlch y Giedd, turned south to reach Fan Hir summit, return north to bwlch, continue to twin summits of Fan Frycheiniog and Twr Fan y Foel, proceeded west to Picws Du, then returned to my van at Bwlch Cerrig Duon. I then drove down to A4067, turning left and drove a good mile north to park at layby on pass at 870195. From here I ascended west to Fan Gyhirych and Fan Fraith before returning to my van around 4.30pm. Very enjoyable, warm, sunny day. A day hike with my two young children starting from the car park just past the houses at Blaenau near Llanddeusant. Followed track to Llyn y Fan Fach, before an ascent to Waun Lefrith (677m), from where the cliff edge was followed to Picws Du (749m). A descent was made before climbing again to the Carmarthenshire high point of Fan Foel (781m), and then Fan Brycheiniog (802m). Descending from Fan Foel onto the Beacons Way, then back to Blaenau. A fine sunny day, with a total 13.4km distance and 785m ascent. From Glyntawe via Garreg Las, a route through limestone badlands and remote moorland. Some fine limestone tops then, encountering a Merlin on the way, onto the sweeping sandstone scarps and ridges including the beautiful summit ridges of the Marilyn top. Relatively straightforward way back, fine ridge over Fan Hir- a big walk in both its atmosphere and distance (17 miles) with brother Pete. 2nd visit to Fan Brycheiniog and Fan Hir.pwheeler06/04/1997
didn't do the new summit, just the trig point. Did the new summit in August 2017Bag200001/04/1997

In the early 1990s before I had even heard of Simms I did my own personal challenge of all the 600m peaks in Wales. I have a record of the summits but not the dates so I have selected this arbitrary date within the period for them all. Some I missed but this was one I did.dickscroop01/07/1994

Cambrian Way. Very pleased as I walked on to see the head of the Usk where it ought to be! And good to see Dave coming to meet me as I walked into Myddfai, though he then had to go home to recuperate for a week or so. Also visited on 13 April 2002; almost certainly to cairn as well as trig point on both occasions.ruthatlast03/06/1993
