Usual route from the parking just off the A817 Glen Fruin. Grassy path up the east side of the firing range, surprised to see a red flashing beacon on a claggy Saturday, but easy to stay out of trouble by the path which skirts the perimeter. Easy grassy terrain, just as well on a wet, windy, foggy day.Owen B19/08/2023
Small layby just up track at NS 2755 9042 OR parking at NS 2701 9044. Luckily path/track up just outside MOD range so OK when red flags flying. On to Beinn Chaorach after which path/atv to Beinn Tharsuinn (continues to bealach and on ridge in SW direction). Left atv at bealach to descend to track from Dam and onto car. Nice walk.carole engel23/07/2023

A leisurely approach to the Maniac on a hot day. Parked at the start of the reservoir road, walked W along the A817 to the double metal gates, took the grassy track ahead where the gravel road swings right, then followed the line of signs up the Strone to the South Top and summit. The views on the return are glorious throughout.Nick Down112/08/2022
From B Chairoach. Descended along ridge to The Strone and then steeply down through new plantings to reservoir.MichaelF26/03/2022
Beinn a' Maniac, a fitting hill for my 1456th Marilyn. Good parking a few yards up the dam road. Up to and across the dam, then up through the nasty new forestry, dodging R at the first cross trench, L at the second, then up steep mossy grass to pop out on the ridge by a handy gate. Easy track, then path all the way to Maniac. Down and up the N side of the fence to Beinn Chaorach, followed by a dead easy descent into the midst of a military exercise complete with dummy missiles parked on the dam. Pleasant chat with the CO.Gill15/03/2022

Round of two Grahams from Glen Fruin. Red flags and lights on the Strone ridge forced me down to the reservoirColin Crawford19/11/2020
Parked at 274900 on the Glen Fruin road (9:15) and walked to the gate by the reservoir dam. Ascended the ridge above to Beinn Chaorach (10:45). Then followed the fence all the way down to the valley and up Beinn a'Mhanaich to the col just below the summit (12:25). Then S down the ridge to the Strone (no red flags flying) and a steep trackless descent back to the dam. Weather was gorgeous - clear and sunny with long views and clouds in the valleys. Beinn Tharsuinn, Beinn Chaorach, Beinn a' Mhanaich from old road to S. Pleasant route but clouds down over tops for much of time. Nice descent down S ridge.RobertP20/12/2017
7th hill of 14 on an epic horseshoe of the Luss Hills from the Alderdale B&B in Luss, climbing Cruach Dubh, Beinn Ruisg, Creagan an Leinibh, Balcnock, Beinn Tharsuinn and Beinn Chaorach, descending easily then more steeply NW, I got halfway up then decided to have a lunch-break while sheltered with good views to the reservoir to the Sse. Really was a slog getting onto the ridge, used a grassy runnel to help. My gps recorded 729m @ NS26913 94606. After walking around to make sure I continued North for the tough descent and re-ascent close to fence-line towards Cruach an t-Sithein...Dazingdale03/10/2017
Good view of the naval dockyards at Faslane on the way down.ngthack08/05/2017
Surprisingly easy, straightforward route from Beinn Chaorach following the fence all the way. Descended south ridge, taking in Maol Fheidh (591m), descended east then walked across dam to reach track back to Auchengaich. Solo.Dangerous Dave12/11/2016
Solo trip on its own by south ridge. Excellent.Invicta1431/05/2016
Solo. Followed rough track, path higher up, up the south ridge to the summit of Beinn a' Mhanaich. Deviated to pass over summits of minor tops of Maol Fheidh 591m (very small cairn) and point 689m (no cairn). Returned same way, missing out deviations. Excellent views.pwbellarby16/04/2016

With Jenx, from the head of Glen Luss road, walked the old track all the way to the lonely farm that was Gleann na Caorainn. Followed the Scottish Rights of way track up to col and hacked up the fenceline to summit of a'Mhanaich. Back over neighbouring Graham Beinn Chaorach steeply and out down the top line into the Glen and out all way to Luss village, a good walk.nordicstar08/10/2015

Up along The Strone. Steep descent to col below Beinn Chaorach. Although the map suggests almost all of this was in a danger area, the area marked keep out on the ground is all west of the watershed on The Strone.campagvelocet14/04/2008

From Chaorach. Followed fence down to emerge from mist to large bealach at 1100'. Very wet crossing and uphill becoming steeper and into mist again. Path uphill on broad ridge to very large gate in cross fence and to top at 12.45. No view.arranc03/08/2002
