With Rhona and Struie. Starting West Merkland. Up estate track and then up path by Allt Coil a Chruiteir as per Walk Highland. Turn left on ridge at top for simple ascent. Walk made more interesting by crossing bealach to Ben Hee North Top. Gives a much better view of the hill. Return via Sail Gharbh. | DampandDusty | 17/06/2023 |
Good parking at approx 374332. Path up Allt Coire a' Chruilteir had only 1 short eroded part. Path faded at 4151/3374. More or less direct to summit from 41923371 burn crossing. Continued to N Top & Meallan Liath Mor. | duchally | 09/06/2023 |
From the roadside where the track meets it at West Merkland - note that large rocks have been placed at the side of the track where it used to be possible to fit a couple of cars in, which is now no longer possible. Up he track and then path into Coir a Chruiteir, then gradually SE to gain ridge. Up and down Ben Hee easily enough in thick cloud, sadly no views. Decided to take in the Simm of Meallan Liath Mor and contrived to ‘ascend’ a minor top to the east in the clag, before descending too soon to the glen. Note to self 1:50,000 map a lot more helpful than 1:25 000 in determining where I went wrong in this case! 11.85 km, 3h 30 | Rockdoctor | 23/05/2023 |
My final Section 16 Corbett. Limited parking at West Merkland. Stalkers path by the Allt Coir a Chruiteir is very eroded in places. Visited summit trig and the cairn 20m beyond. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 01/04/2023 |
With John from the A838 (West Merkland). Had planned for Meall Horn but the A838 was starting to disappear under a sheet of snow so we stopped at the parking spot for Ben Hee and did that instead. Took the track until we could make a direct line up to Sail Garbh and then followed a line south then east up to the corbett summit. Descended SW then West down by Allt Coire a' Chruiteir (following a path in parts), back to the track.

We ascended in heavy snow, the clouds started clearing by the time we reached the summit, and we had blue skies and sun on the descent. Total time 4h 4min. | mproudfoot | 26/03/2023 |

Parked at West Merkland for a circuit of A'Ghlaise, Meall a' Chleirich, Ben Hee North Top, Ben Hee, Meallan Liath Mor and Meallan Liath Beag. | PGCE | 10/05/2021 |
A disaster of a day though it started well. From road, up track and path, found a place to cut up to Meallan Liath Mor. Round to Ben Hee main summit and on to NE top with no significant problems. The headed straight down towards the small lochan at half height, very steep ground and my pole broke (strap pulled out) with my weight fully committed to it. Fell and bounced and rolled about 70-80 feet. Broke my right arm (Ulna) and smashed up my left thumb. By myself, I had drowned my phone a couple of days earlier so no option but to walk out which I managed OK. Then after some tea and a cake at the house at the end of the track drove to hospital at Inverness! | dickscroop | 25/08/2020 |

With J during a week in Sutherland. Glorious weather & a fine view from the summit. Parked just W of West Merkland & walked 1.5kms NE up track before picking up the old stalkers path on the S side of Allt Coir' a' Chruiteir. As others have noted, the path is rather overgrown & sometimes in the river itself. Took a slanting line up to the col & then a circuitous route on the best ground up to the summit spotting a ptarmigan on the way. Returned to the col & then took a direct line back over Meallan Liath Mor to rejoin the outward track. It being May, it was cuckoo time of course, although this time we actually saw one of the birds rather than just hearing them... | NotReallyABagger | 20/05/2018 |
The usual way up. From West Merkland, then old stalkers path on S bank of Allt Coir a'Chruteir. After the path ended the terrain was less vegetated and I walked on the easiest terrain, which led to a few cairns up to the SW ridge just above the bealach. Higher up, there were dotterel and ptarmigan. Sunny and clear, views included the Fannichs and Morven. It seemed a shame not to have a ridge walk so I continued to the fine NE Top (qv) and returned via Sail Gharbh. | pwheeler | 16/05/2018 |

From West Merkland, cycled as far as Allt Coir a'Chruteir. Path up south side of this stream is still there but much of it is succumbing to vegetation and bank erosion. Higher up the terrain is more confortable to walk on although it gets stony at the very top. Good clear views all around. | Topographer57 | 20/08/2015 |

After doing Beabag in the morning. From West Merkland. I walked up private road NE, and then by stalkers’ path beside Allt Coir a’ Chruiteir. It’s a good path – somewhat damp in the highest parts. Ascended to summit of Ben Hee. | pwbellarby | 29/06/1997 |
