Rum Cuillin Traverse with Wooly. 12 hour trip starting and finishing in the dark. From Kinloch via Coire Dubh to Hallival then onto Askival. Descent into Bealach an Oir then steeply up Trollabhal. Scrambling near top then out and and back to summit. Fantastic! Cross the Bealach an Fhuarain then ascended the steep shoulder low on Akival on the W side crossing to the E side in strong wind to gain the top via good but very steep path. Easier terrain now over Nameless Top (Leac a'Chaisteil)and onto Sgurr nan Gillean. Descent to Dibidil down S shoulder and curving east lower down. Visit to excellent bothy at Dibidil and then along reasonable path back to Kinloch. Glorious sunshine and clear skies all day, cold and sometimes windy but he views to Skye, Eigg and the other Small Isle was wonderful. A great day.John Lee30/10/2023
Very satisfying Rum Cuiillin traverse including Askival, Ainshval and Sgurr nan Gillean. With Penny and Colin from the bunkhouse. Missed out Hallival (which I’d done before) and Trollabhal (to save time, also Penny didn’t enjoy the exposure so much). Misty on Askival but clearing for a very pleasant afternoon. No problems with the scrambling but it as a long rough route. The steep descent from Sgurr nan Gillian was tough at the end of a long day, fortunately we found a decent gully to descend. The coastal path from Dibidil was also tough, very boggy.douglas_easton21/05/2023
5 of 6: From Trollabhal. Unable to see any line from below but more obvious when on it. At the top we met Matt from Edinburgh who was bivvying. Met him again on the ferry. With Tim.ChrisR06/05/2023

Saturday day trip, unfortunately curtailed by 1 hour advance in evening boat sailing time. Some delay getting onto correct path - link path starts opposite S side of Kinloch Castle. Good progress to Corie Dubh and first part of NW ridge of Hallival, but then much scrambling to Askival summit - good but slow for old legs! 49th Big 50 hill! Returned skirting below Hallival; an extra hour might have allowed returning via Beinn nan Stac or to include Barkeval.henryfm31/07/2021

Day trip from Mallaig - Saturdays give you more than 10 hours! Rum Cuillin then down to Harris, over Orval and Bloodstone Hill to Guirdil then back to Kinloch - you can do plenty when you run!quadbarrel19/06/2021
Via the ridge from Hallival, returning to Kinloch via Glen Dibidil and the coast pathrjf3501/08/2019
Round of Hallival, Askival, Trollaval and Ainshval from Kinloch Castle. North ridge with slight detours to the east to avoid the steepest sections of the ridge. Mostly OK but some difficulty finding a safe way back onto the ridge and to the summit. Down the west ridge towards Trollaval, detouring a bit to the south, rather uncomfortable scree but no serious issues.Topographer5714/07/2019

Day 1 of two-day backpack from Kinloch. Coire Dubh - Hallival - Askival - Trollaval - Ainshval - Sgurr nan Gillean - Harrisdavidpettit8427/05/2018
From Kinloch via Hallival, with nephew Andrew Purkiss, and Steve Lewis. A full traverse intended but rain and high winds put paid to that. We cut the walk short heading for Beinn nan Stac and off.jonglew03/05/2018
With MVW after Ainshval took more direct line across Bealach an Oir to ascend Askival by W ridge where Manx Shearwaters were and returned same route back to base in increasing darkness and deteriorating weather to end a very long day.Frank07/04/2018
After Hallival- magnificent walking and views as far as the top of Askival, helped by a few cairns where one drops below the N ridge on the E side. The W ridge down to Bealach an Oir was not so fine, and the line down seems to go a bit S of the ridge; a deliberate move back to the ridge as the ground became a little less steep gave a satisfying finish; traverse of Atlantic Corrie to get back to Kinloch worked OK and had good supplies of water in remarkably dry conditions. The last 1.5 miles back to Kinloch is on a very fast, well made path.pwheeler02/06/2017

Had planned the full round utilising the Saturday morning and evening ferries but part way decided I had a good chance of not making the evening ferry so cut short at Trallibhall. But a good day for all that. Cam back following day for rest of ridgedickscroop28/05/2016

24th – Solo. Dry, but windy with strong gusts, and cloud base varying between 700m and 900m. Attempted full circuit of Rum Cuillin from Kinloch returning via Dibdil coastal path. Terrain hard going, but scrambling sections fun. Ran out of time so needed to turn off the ridge early before attempting Ainshval.RGibbs22/07/2015
MMC trip to Rum. Day 3. Perfect day for traverse as overcast, light wind, high cloud. Technically easy but long ascent from final top and a dreadfully boggy walk out the Papadil/ Dibidil track. 13 hoursalexmaclennan18/05/2015

Mad one day dash w Jenx due to weather forecast, dire Sun-Tues so early boat Sat and scamper round Rum Cuillin tops and back for last boat home. Great hills, all Corbetts, Graham and odd other top for good measure. Ok traversing lines between cola made for quicker return to start.nordicstar14/09/2013

Finally to Rum! with Darren during a brief heatwave for a dream 40km peak fest around the island in an enjoyably tough 26 hours between ferries, travelling KIMM style with a wild overnight camp half way round. The fun straightforward scrambling began here.Chris Pearson25/07/2012
On RBS HWC 25th anniversary weekend with Lyn, Mark C, Jim P, Neil - fabulous weatherlangskill02/06/2012
Best weather of the year. Climbed with brother from Kinloch, took a bad short cut on way back from summit to coast path cutting down through deep heather which resulted in me performing a good few forward rolls.Columba26/05/2012
Epic islands week with Sarah, camping/castle combination. Day wasn't looking good so only planned for Askival. Turned out brilliant, which was annoying, could have gone on but would have been ridiculously hard/late back. Oh well.Colinmac200506/05/2012

Visit of Highland Geological Society to Rum. Initially with others but continued alone. Up path beside Allt Slugan a' Choilich into Coire Dubh and then SE to col with point 411m. Went up NW ridge to summit of Hallival and down W ridge. Up N ridge of Askival and down W ridge to Bealach an Oir. Up E ridge of Trallval. Two tops on Trallval. A bit of a scramble from the first top to the second, higher one, but not difficult. Returned to Bealach an Oir and contoured tediously round the head of Atlantic Corrie to get back to Coire Dubh.pwbellarby21/04/2012
