| With John from car park at Inverlochlarig. Followed track W along river until footbridge then aimed SSW steeply up to the shoulder of Stob a' Choin south of Amar Stob a' Choin. After reaching summit, descended and re-ascended E up to Meall Reamhar and continued E to Meall Reamhar's N top, before descending NNE down Creag nan Saighead to about 400m, then headed NW, descending back down to footbridge, and followed track back to car park. | From Inverlochlarig. Lower slopes very boggy, good going wending through the crags to reach the N ridge, then extremely sketchy soft snow on very steep grass. The summit was reached with relief, and the views were extensive. Over Meall Reamhar and Creag na h-Iolaire and down the ridge of Creag nan Saighead. | Solo from Inverlochlarig Farm. Good track along River Larig and over excellent new bridge. Heavy rain and poor visiblity. Very steep SW then up N ridge to Stob a'Choin summit. | Standard route from Inverlochlarig, rising more steeply than planned from the footbridge to avoid cattle. Otherwise no problems, steep but good grassy going, avoiding the ravine section of the stream by crossing at 450m asl. Cloud base at 750m unfortunately. | Parked in the car park and followed the farm road through Inverlochlarig and on to the splendid new footbridge. Then followed the SMC route up the desperately steep ascent of the Stob a' Choin. Then along the ridge visiting Meall Reamhow North Top, Meall Reamhow, and Creag na h-lolaire; before a tricky steep descent to Creag Chaorannach, and on to the pleasant little bump Cnoc na Nathach. Then S to N along the Stob Breac ridge, where the going is much easier. Visited outlier Beinn Mheadonach, An Stuchd, Sob Breac Far South Top, Stob Breac South Top, and finally Stob Breac. I did not fancy a lengthy steep descent after so many steep sections already. So, I backtracked to the col before the south top, turned west, taking a gently graded grassy rake with a stream much the way to the top of the forest. I then went down the gap followed by the stream with a dog leg to the grassy forest road. | From Inverlochlarig by the old forest track in Glen Sgionie and a steep, boggy exit SW, a traverse to Cruinn Bheinn and superb views over Loch Katrine, back over the boggy col to Creag Chaorannach, a rising traverse above Coire an Laoigh to the bealach E of Stob a'Choin and steeply to its three summits. Tired and with protesting knees, I abandoned my plan of returning over the two tops of Meall Reamhar and Creag na h-Iolaire to descend the NE ridge, and instead picked and slid my way down the N ridge and NE grassy gully, crossing the Larig on stones and following the Inverlochlarig track back. | Nick Down1 | 03/04/2021 |
