Roadside parking on the industrial estate next to Lidl, off the A497. Got lost in the woods but eventually found our way out! Lovely summit. With Jill.Dangerous Dave20/07/2023
Parking and route as per Rinaldo333. 2.7 miles round trip. Nice walk on very hot afternoon.JulieB09/06/2023
Followed the diagonal path to the quarries, turned round at the dripping rockface, beyond where we had reached the quarry found a trod climbing to the ridge. Along the ridge and back to descend by the tourist route.IWC07/05/2023
From porthmadog going up through tyddyn llwyn and returning passing petrol station, aldi etc. I measured a nearby rock as higher than the trig.Yr Eryr Aur23/04/2023
Repeat. Morning walk from South Snowdon Wharf in thick mist.Herbert Anchovy17/02/2023
With Lesley. Interesting route from parking opposite petrol stn on town outskirts. Diagonal path to big quarry, winding wheel and massive incline. Path traverses rightwards along ledge beneath dripping cliffs at which point queries about my route finding and mutinous remarks being made. Rough track then curved up and into shallow gully coming out very close to trig. Traversed ridge back east and descent leftwards to join Circular Walk (of the town not the hill) path. Great little hill.Nick Canute28/01/2023
As per Ronaldo333 using the slightly closer off-road parking referred to.Clach Liath21/01/2023

Parked at lay-by nearest to track that goes up to Bron-y foel. Followed the FP to the south of the hill and once through gate up on good path all the way to trig and nearby Boulder.. Great viewpoint.PeterD16/08/2022
Boiling hot day, one of the hottest of the year. We had to abandon a planned long work in the Rhinogs and do this little hill instead. It didn't disappoint. Well worth a visit, it an outstanding viewpoint. As others, we did it from the layby on the A497 using grid reference from the logs below.Lazylizzie14/08/2022
From W side. Nice loop and a surprisingly scrambly ridgeline.twg2725/06/2022
Climbed on a beautiful sunny day in shorts and tee shirt, a Welsh gem with wonderful panoramic views.WanderingSnowdonian15/06/2022
With Syd from A497 near petrol station up clear steep complex paths to E summit then along entettaining ridge to top. Descended steeply S then down to Morfa Bychan and Porthmadog to the Australia with old walking mate Nick who has just moved to the areaclimbingkershaw12/05/2022
Moel - y - gest [S8380] from GR: SH 54644 39568 (layby). Closer alternative parking at SH 54078 39464. To gate (SH 54498 39058) and track which leads to 'stile' at wall at SH 54905 38851 then scramble to summit. Descent by heading east initally on more defined path to close wall at stile at SH 55137 38808 which leads back past Bron-y-foel.ronaldo33326/06/2021

From lay-by on A497, couple of hundred metres along pavement to ROW to Bron-y-Foel. Just before cottage took a gate and grass path which went up the west flank of the hill, over a stone wall, to summit. Walked the rugged ridge eastwards, taking in the east summit before following a grass path through the bracken from the gap between the two summits to Bronchiole-y-Foel. Nice walk in worsening weather.summitter23/06/2021
This one is my favourite so far. Park in the layby opposite Lidl on the way out of Porthmadog as if you're going to Criccieth. Start at a forest track sloping up, you then go up into steeper woodland, it's not obvious which way to go but you go over a wall and keep going up until you reach a path going up the rocks. Then you reach the first summit, keep going along the path and you come to many boulders to clamber over all the way along the long summit until you get to a trig point at the end. Very interesting path.Skarletk19/06/2021
With Sue, on route 30 in Alex Kendall's 'Snowdonia North easy walks route.Phreerunner04/05/2021
Up path 600m SE of Bryn-y-Foel. Steep, but no scrambling requiredPeteN24/12/2019
From SE along Lama trekking path and NE, NW zigzag.m0jla26/09/2019
From lay-by on A497 and zig-zag path opposite Bron-y-Foel, with W who enjoyed some scrambling near top, fine and warm. Stunning view point, arguably one of the best in Wales.steve_a28/08/2019
From Millets, as described elsewhere, past petrol station (Now ESSAR) and onto signed footpath. Left at cross-path after wall (or a path back left just before), and continue to bwlch. Going up by wall, earlier 'good' path leads to quarries, and no good way up; ends at a no way down, no way up terminator. From bwlch, follow good path up ridge, via a lower E summit through to trig point. Likely the quickest way up is from the Motel/campsite that you look down on from the bwlch.henryfm26/08/2019
From layby then 250m walk west, luckily there is a pavement, then up track from NW and on up path through bracken to its HP. From there, a short walk towards the hill to a wall gate allows access to its steep south face. From there, there is still a path but parts of it have been almost completely taken over by gorse and bracken. Not pleasant. There is probably a better way.Topographer5702/08/2019
Myself and Alma Aurea had an evening walk to the summit of Moel y Gest. A beautiful place with excellent views tonight.meltdiceburg28/07/2019
Parked at entry to Wern Lodge and followed farm road towards summit. Then through endless bracken and over a little crag to the top. Back the same way despite bracken, I like some punishment !NormanW12/07/2019
Loop walk from Morfa Bychan via the Llama Farm. Relatively easy walk although last 150m gets steep and rocky but nothing too difficult. Covering 5.25miles (8.4km) in 2hrs 34 mins including lunch at the top.Nick591222/05/2019
3/3 Marilyn for the day. Moel y Gest from A497. A major storm and no cagoule - I got soaked! 5km with 250m ascent in a quick round trip of 1h 10m. (S)silveracorn_alan09/05/2019
Parked in industrial estate and followed paths from there, a few times we took and wrong path on our way up and when we came down the same direction, there are trails everywhere in the woods, once you leave the woods though the route is steep but fairly straightforward. I would say this is the best 200m hill we have done since we started walking in 2004, definitely a mini mountain, afterwards drove to and bagged Moel Hebog and friends, hot and sunny but very hazy so the views were not as good.DanTrig17/04/2019
Late afternoon addition...from the large Layby near the railway crossing the road, up track but as other...zig /hairpin goes left uphill before cottage. Then easy path through wall and short scrambleN.Morters08/04/2019
Parked in second layby on A497. Walked along road for 200 yds then walked up path to Bron y foel. Just before Bron y foel hairpin right into field. Meander south through fields until meeting a wall.follow wall upwards then scramble to top via reasonably obvious route. Not for a wet day!!. 1 he 10 mins round tripLongwojo15/10/2018
From Travelodge and signed post almost opposite Aldi. Through forest going SW until wall then left up onto ridge and along to top on reasonable paths.trimarc211/10/2018
With Kevin and Rob from Aldi. Great wee hill and ridge but got caught up in undergrowth on way down.lordtonult08/09/2018
Set off from SSE - verge parking - post at start of walk is marked with hill name. Good track for most of way - then bracken & a little track through crag almost direct to summit. Nice little hill with views of sea & mountain.ger16/07/2018
From south. Fairly infrequently trodden paths (apart from by cows) - lots of gorseIainPeeks24/05/2018
Ascended paths from the east. Descended south to Morfa Bychan but struggled to find much evidence of the public footpath.davidpettit8402/01/2018
From Travelodge, maze of paths through the woods and onto tops.rhalstead24/12/2017

From the charter train to mark the 150th anniversary of the Cambrian Coast Line opening, and a venture from Porthmadog station up this small but highly impressive summit. Some paths, scrambling needed in parts, and excellent views of northern part of Cardigan Bay; as previous bagger mentioned, treacherous at times on wet leaves and slate on descent. Definitely worth the effort.JOHNS11/10/2017
As others, started from retail shops (Aldi, Lidl, Millets and Gelert - what more do you want!) up clearly marked path. Well, clear at start but many zig zag alternatives and dead end into quarry or two. Wet leaves on wet rocks didn't help on downward. Well worth the effort though.dicky10/10/2017
Good views on nice rocky summitThe Playful Pig26/09/2017
From by Travelodge. A bit of a maze of feint paths at ppints on the ascent. A suprisingly large descent off the Eastern top to the col. Fine summit.stig_nest20/07/2017
Parked at the campsite to the SE, over east top and on to main summit. Descended from col to SW and along footpath to Llama centre and back along road.Lionel Bidwell16/07/2017
Parked up at Millets on main A497 road. Took path up through woods. Path followed along the north side of first lower (231m) summit. Due to windy conditions we did not use the ridge but went south from the col and approached the summit trig (262m) that way. Good clear path through the bracken.G4OBK (Phil)11/06/2017
A quick asent up from retail park on North sideNozzer05/05/2017
With Trefor. From layby on A497. Public footpath south then steep pull up to summit. Good weather and great views.mike.hoult05/04/2017
