Parked at the free carpark opposite Ganllwyd. A detour to visit the Black waterfalls then through the Nature reserve, past the old gold mines and up to Y Garn. Terrific views.Peterb25/11/2023

From small parking at end of minor road from Llanelltyd (few hundred yards after Cae-gwernog farmhouse). Four miles up and down. Good path & track to ridge and summit. Nice start to the day before later rain on Moel Ysgyfarnogod and Foel Penolau.Lazylizzie25/06/2023

Started from the free car park, went up past the chapel and passed the fantastic waterfalls, we continued up passed the old gold mines and up to the ridge, from here we continued up to the top but unfortunately the fog came down at about 500m and we were unable to see anything at the top. A tricky route to come down in the fog but we eventually found the path and got back safely. Walk was about 6.5 miles, 4 hrs, 2000ft in ascent.Buckleymon21/02/2023
Did this route https://explore.osmaps.com/route/3167520/rhinog-y-garn-rhaeder-ddu?lat=52.796396&lon=-3.926480&zoom=13.2113&style=Leisure&type=2d&overlays=&placesCategory=. Couldn't follow the last section as the forestry has all been cut down, so followed the track back to Ganllwyd.andrewroberts19/02/2023
Ascent as per Nuttall walk 9.3 and descent via the same way for ease of route finding in the snow. With R, first December Nuttall and 50th of 2022.Dan Baddeley11/12/2022

Park at end of minor road. Up through for3st via Tump. Then rough moor and waterlogged path to summit. Escaped worst of weather with thunder over Rhinnogs and Cader idris. Back to car via trig pillar to Swcjo15/10/2022

Pass the chapel and use the right of way sign! Quicker onto hill. Glad Gmac and I made it before cloud came rolling over the hill. Views in every direction spectacularelizyanne15/07/2022
Car got ill, misfiring, so sought early morning garage who's take a look at it. All busy but left it with one to SW. So had to walk all way from central Dolgellau. Main road NW then up minor road to the east and eventually to summit by about 1pm Down via trig pillar at southern end of ridge where ground then drops steeply. Down tracks through wood but one track I took that assumed went all way down to road started to disappear lower down and got into denser difficult troubling terrain, which I had to gingerly pick my way through, eventually to the main road. Irritating end to the afternoon.vegibagger13/06/2022
started from NT car park in Ganllwyd. good path to summit, then winged it down other side - very difficult terrain. Finally made it to track and had pleasant walk around the lake.gbeniston04/06/2022

A mid-day start after Allt-Fawr in the morning. From road end at Blaen-y-cwm, ample parking for two, perhaps three cars and a turning area.. On track/permissive path to SW which continues beyond where it ends on the map to zigzag all the way to the ridge then a good path to the impressive cairn on the summit. If you get the line right, gates and/or stiles all the way, no walls to climb. Good going makes it quicker than you would expect. My 150th of the 150 Welsh Simms!dickscroop21/01/2022
Lovely walk on a fine day from Llanelltyd. Started off on New Precipice Walk then over Foel Ispri to follow the south ridge. Easy route, every wall crossed by stile or gate. The sun came out as we were on the summit, magnificent views of the southern Rhinogydd, Cader Idris and the Arans. Descended via the same way initially before dropping southeast down to Ty'n y Llwyn then Cwm Wnin - ended up walking back to Dolgellau to avoid long wait for next bus. A great first Rhinogydd summit.thesweetcheat07/11/2021
Straightforward from Ganllwyd free NT carpark and then SW through nature reserve (failing to follow the blue/ green marks) and to the Gold Mines and then up on sheep pasture to summit (two walls). Could not find bolt under cairn but did not want to destroy the cairn too much. Continued to Myndd Glan-llyn-y-Forwyn over rough terrain.Denise 08/10/2021

Hotel closed down today. One last blast before an uncertain future. Parked on minor road in Cwm Mynnach (near Ty-n-y-coed) - Road then forestry track up east side of the Cwm to beyond Blean-cwm-Mynnach. Followed footpath through cleared forestry (old homestead uncovered) to open mountain beyond. We then meander ever upwards through the Rhinog landscape to Craig -Y-Merched with its lake then the summit of Y Garn - (found OS rivet on detached block of concrete - buried in summit cairn for safe keeping) - a few other walkers we wave distantly to each other as we pass - descent via Foel Ddu - Moel Feol Isaf - New Precipice the road back down in the valley to the car - home and who knows what next.briandavies22/03/2020
From Ty’n-Y-Groes Hotel. Up the road into forest and to old mine workings, following the track along the line of mines with very apt gold topped poles. Then in thick mist used the path along walls to open ground and summit. Limited breaks with views in mist.N.Morters24/01/2020
Ty'n y Groes Hotel - Y Garn via gold mine - Cesailgwm - Penmaenpool - Dol Gledr - Craig y Castell - Craig y Castell (Marilyn) - Bryn-y-gwin - Dolgellau.Mark Jackson28/08/2019
From SE starting at road end near Blaen y cwm, narrow and steep road but parking OK. Permissive track passes above Tyn Lwyn then continues west to gate before turning north up to the south ridge. There is a well built wall along the ridge, stay on east side as far as stile at 473m then west side as far as last stile at 584m. Nice pointed summit with sea views west and full view of Cadair Idris above Dolgellau to south.Topographer5726/08/2019
From Ganllwyd via 7138824200. A helpful farmer showed me the metal gate and path which lead up to a hole in the wall at 7111924106. Then following a wall up, and a wall to cross before the summit. Rather hot today.NormanW15/07/2019
from Ganllwyd via Gold mine and NE ridge.IanHHill29/05/2019
The start and path are easy to find but watch for the path through the wood. There are faint sheep tracks to follow but aim for the wall and you will follow a path up on it's right hand side.you cross the stile and make for the summit marked by an upright stone. We followed the route as per book back to the start. It is steep in parts but easily navigatedAristotle Chip27/05/2019

Ascent of Yr Garn from Ganllwyd to complete ascent of all the Rhinogs.knarf15/11/2018
Visibility poor. Overshot where I should have been following the wall parallel to the crags and hence had to climb over a couple of walls. Met farmer who pointed me in the right direction after I assured him I hadn't damaged his wall.Longwojo17/10/2018
From NT CP at Ganllwyd. SW following blue then green route to old mine - (possibly best to pass mine building on a grassy track) more or less following Nuttall's route. Nice hill with good summit views.ger29/09/2018

1/4 Marilyn day. Y Garn from Ganllwyd. 6km with 600m ascent in 1h45m. (S)silveracorn_alan23/09/2018
From the Cefn Coch gold mines. Go initially south, pass tidy house, stay on the miners track which loops north along ridge. You pas two mine entrances and 3 opening gates and a ladder style. No walls or gates need to be cloned if you go the right way. Impressive 360 views including Snowden and Berwyns on a sunny and clear day. NNick Caunt22/06/2018

Followed the Nuttall's route with Xander. Walls not too bad - there were normally handily placed holes or, if not, they could be climbed quite easily. Took five hours in total which wasn't bad at 8 year old pace and including about 1.5 hours of stoppages for lunch and snacks.Herbert Anchovy30/05/2018
Looks like damaged Platform Bolt (OS) under cairn. One witness rivet survives.Dusty11/05/2018
From Cwm yr Wnin above Llanelltyd, parked below Blaen-y-Cwm. Up the track to Ty'n y Llwyn which continues up to the S ridge with gates and/or stiles at all the wall crossings. The last stile towards the top of the hill is easy to miss. A pleasant walk, and wonderful views of the Rhinogs, Cadair and Snowdon from the top. Basking in the sun admiring it all for at least 20 minutes.Gill20/04/2018

Mad dash off here via Bryniau Glo to catch the bus from near Ganllwyd. Don't know how I managed it, but did so with just a couple of minutes to spare.Twice Shy01/09/2017
#629 From Ganllwyd via Blue & Green walks to the gold mines then onto open hill. Walls not a problem, first is 'stepoverable', second has a hole at 71263 22876, and the third has a step style at 70969 23091.tim74709/06/2017
