Very poor conditions, vis was about 10m and could not even face into wind direction. First p600. | Gareth1886 | 15/03/2024 |
Set off from car park down from resevoir in misty weather. As i approached the turning point to head to the summit the weather changed to driving hail. At points the wind knocked me almost off my feet and the snow drifts made it hard to see the route. Very steep slippy descent around the forest.finally returning to car. Exhilarating yes. Enjoyable not in that weather. | JacquiH7 | 21/02/2024 |

We parked at the end of the lane near Dinas on a mild sunny February day with a moderate breeze. We climbed up to Castell Dinas then up Pen y Grib and along the Dragons Back to Pen y Manllwyn. It was then an easy walk to the summit. Headed back down via Pen Trumau and across to Rhyd-y-car at the road end. Headed back along a very muddy bridleway to the car. Lots of Red Kites Skylarks and a few Ravens. Time taken just under 4 hours including stops for 7.5 miles. With Amelia. | isabelle | 19/02/2023 |

Long looping hike including Waun Fauch and Pen y Gadair Fawr. | complicatedaussie | 25/06/2022 |
I parked in the car park at Grwyne Fawr. It was warm and sunny. I ran up to the reservoir past the bothy and followed the path up to the col with Rhos Dirion. From the col I then picked up a decent path to the summit of Waun Fach. Last time I was up here the trig was surrounded by a swamp. There looks like quite a lot of regeneration work has taken place. I took the summit to be the rise about 20 metres NE of the remains of the trig. I was surprised that there was a good path to Pen y Gadair Fawr as this was not here on my last visit nearly 30 years ago. The summit was marked by a large cairn. From the summit I headed back down; taking the narrow path along the north western edge of the forestry to the Grwyne Fawr where I bathed my feet for few minutes before the easy downhill run to the car. Time taken 2 hours for 9.5 miles. There were a few walkers on the hills but nothing like the Central Beacons. I saw Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Chaffinches, Buzzard, Red Kite, Wheatears and a Dipper. | isabelle | 07/05/2022 |

Set off from Capel-y-ffin with good weather however clearly peaks in some cloud. Walked across Grwyne Fawr reservoir damn and made my way up to Waun Fach. As noted, very nondescript summit compared to the nearby Pen Trumau and Pen y Gadair Fawr. Didn't stop for long and descended back to the forest, walked back up towards the reservoir and back | jamiequackers | 10/10/2020 |
