Parked in layby next to Talybont reservoir, did a loop going up to Bryn, then along to Waun Rydd before decending via Allt Lwyd. Very soft underfoot, foggy and windy, no views but a good day out.lboutside16/03/2024

9 of 10 Starting at the storey arms car park. From track to south then over a bit of rough ground till found another faint track near the summit back down over rough ground with a fair share of hidden rabbit holes. Marilyn no. 77The-Z-Man01/08/2023

Parked next to Talybont Reservoir and hiked along the ridge to get to the summit. Showery day with strong winds along the ridge and at the summit.SootAndShale01/01/2023
From car park on the Tal y Bont reservoir, followed Nuttall's route over Allt Lwyd. As others have noted some welcome path improvements on the upper part. Top in cloud as was the ridge and route to Carn Pica and Waun Rydd. Came out of the cloud descending to Twyn Du. Remember backpacking over the Waun Rydd ridge many years ago on a vague path through muddy peat hags - much improved today. Wind and showers all afternoon. With Gillianrichard6931/12/2022
From the parking area next to Talybont reservoir, following the Nuttals route over Allt Lwyd. Filthy weather, gales and rain, but the visibility did clear on the way back across the summit plateau. 10.75kmRockdoctor30/12/2022

Parked on dam wall, wasn't surw if I could join path from private track north so headed south towards small car park, onto path and north again, could have cut across field before this, north to ridge then west up steep ridge to carn pica, continue on and detour right to summit, continue north west, then path south east towards bomber memorial, short steep up onto ridge and south east to cairn, follow ridge to Allt lwyd, then down past settlement and onto small car park, returned along dried up reservoir bed, saw some cool previously submerged trees and back to start, very difficult hikeTribal2er22/09/2022

30 mile circular walk from Taf Fechan up to Pen-Y-Fan and east over Waun Rydd. Misty day, but good temperature for walking, especially for a challenging hike!JazDisney01/05/2022
Anti-clockwise circuit starting at Blaen y Glyn. From Waun Rydd to Craig Gwaun Taf Returning via Taf FechanJK18/04/2022
Circuit starting Allt Rydd, south side of plateau, plane crash site, Gwaun Cerrig, descent via Carn Pica along ridge and unclassified top. Two separate parties of people without maps asked me if I had done this walk before and wanted to clarify the way.Nick Canute03/04/2022
Bit of a slog, but up from a gorgeous little valley above Talybont Reservoir and very clear day.andrewroberts24/02/2022

From the Talybont reservoir upper car park at 057177.Good path direct from car park to within 300 metres of summit. Long series of bags of hardcore along route suggests path is going to get even better though for the moment some of them do rather get in the way. Even though you get close thick cloud made finding the trig point problematical. My fault for trying to cut corner by leaving path too early. Best to get to point due south of summit and head north.dickscroop27/10/2021
from CP in forest at 042163 via track, road and Craig y Fan Las. Afterwards along ridge to foot of Fan y Big summit area. High wind persuaded me not to ascend that top, so I dropped down to the track above Neuadd Reservoir, which was almost empty, and followed it back to the CP.IanHHill05/10/2021

8/8 Extended Pen-y-fan horseshoe from Taf Fechan. Superb clear skies, if a little windy. Fairly quiet paths on a Sunday and lots of ascending making for sore legs!JazDisney25/04/2021
13.5 mile walk from Llanfrynach. From village along well signposted Three Rivers Ride and another footpath to Rhiwiau farm, then onto Cefn Cyff ridge fairly easily onto Fan Y Big. From here we followed nice footpath along Bwlch Y Ddwyallt, then across to Waun Rydd plane wreck and followed plateau around to Carn Pica cairn and featureless Waun Rydd summit, then descending on easy grass with gentle ascent onto Bryn (first time bagged) followed footpaths back to village. 861m ascent. Perfectly clear, sunny and all round very dry. Saw quite a few people.DanTrig18/04/2021

My last Marilyn in S Wales. From the car park to the South. Waterfalls impressive after very heavy rain overnight. Last car in the car park, but the cloud had cleared as I descended Craig y Fan Ddu.NormanW04/10/2020
Along the wonderful and windy Graig Fan Las to Bwlch y Ddwyallt and Waun Rydd. Turning back westwards to tackle the main Beacon ridge. Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion, Fan y Big, Cribyn and Pen y Fan. Returned to car park via Corn Du, Duwynt and Craig Fan Dhu, taking in the Twyn Mwyalchod Trig for good measure. A great walk on a great day.summitter18/09/2020
From CP beside Talybont Reservoir. Good path all the way to Allt Lwyd, then on to Waun Rydd. Fine, but mist blowing over the tops. With B and R.jenx08/09/2020
from reservoir parking in fading light got lost in forest of briars etc. Eventually made it to top passing campers who thought they were at the summit. Speedy descent.lordtonult30/08/2020
With: hb; From Talybont Dam, to CP at SO099196, then track through narrow sheep ride to open fell by stile. Easy path to summit. Continued on to Waun Rydd then wildcamp below Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion.Ian Baines26/08/2020

2nd attempt, v small cairn at summit! beautiful, if windy day. P and K. First attempt May 2018, too misty too risk even though only a few hundred metres off main path.senrab17/08/2019
From Talybont Reservoir, parking SO 09951 19673 via Allt Lwyd, (Craig Cwareli ex Nuttall) and Bwlch y Ddwyallt. Return via Cain Pica and Twyn Du ridge.Westdenewalker24/07/2019
Start at the upper of the two Blaen-y-glyn carparks, but worth walking up through the woods from the lower and taking in the lovely waterfalls. Relatively short climb up from the upper carpark to Craig y Fan Ddu for fabulous level rim walk around to bag Waun Rydd. Back again and follow the path as it edges spectacularly around Cwm Cwarelli and Cwm Oergwyn. The day is straight out of a geography text book. While not a top of any prominence visit Fan y Big and refresh yourself before tackling the big dipper of Cribyn and then the main event, Pen y Fan - the highest mountain in South Wales. There is a National Trust sign on the summit, made for selfies. Savour these three promontories for their panoramic views. Move on to Corn Du, for great views of Craig Gwaun Taf which you need to now follow for some miles. Just as you think when will the growing cliff ever end, turn to see a cairn. Ignore the path that descends from here and continue on toward the trig point for a much better and saferPete West22/06/2019
better known as Craig Pwllfa. been here many times between 1981 and ca.2005 on SW Marathon challenge walk but not since, small pile of stones marks summit with fine views Nrichardrosser06/05/2019

With Pen y Fan from Plas-y-gaer. Overcast at first, sunny at end. Cold wind on some slopes. Rounsfell28/04/2019
From Bryn, accompanied by Missy. Clear but chilly wind. Had rush of blood to the head and went to 762 spot height east of summit as well. Heading to Gwaun Cerrig Llwydion.alwaysinshorts13/04/2019
From the top car park and up the path to Craig y Fan Ddu. Plenty of people on the lower slopes but above 600 metres they melted away. There were a few snow patches above 600 metres. I carried on to the summit of Waun Rydd which carried a dusting of snow and some impressive icicles coming off the peat hags. Visited all 3 high points before heading down to Bryn. This was a great viewpoint but as the weather was closing in I back tracked to the summit of Waun Rydd. I headed south through a blizzard to Cwar y Gigfran. The wind was ferocious and I was pleased to get off the plateau on the path to Allt Forgan. The summit was unmarked but the high point was fairly obvious as at this height I was below the cloud base and there was even some watery sunshine. It was then a bit of a slog getting back to the car as I couldn’t cross the river until I reached the wooden footbridge which then meant a reascent through the woods. Time taken 4 hours for 10.5 miles.isabelle17/03/2019
