Nuttall route 5.3. Complicated and long walk from Cnicht N.Top through Rhosydd Quarry. Steep climb up to this pleasant summit. Solo.Dangerous Dave21/07/2023
Parked at upper Tanygrisiau car park and took the lower SW footpath (faint at times) up towards the dam and around the upper cwm to Bwlch Stwlan. Clear ridge path out and back to Moelwyn Bach and along to Craigysgafn, Moelwyn Mawr and Moel yr hydd. Return to 566m bwlch and SE descent to tarmac road from power station. Hot but hazy half day walk, very dry underfoot. Solorichard6912/06/2023

Following on from Cnicht, made my way to the Rhosedd quarry and followed the disused incline to the drum house and continued up to the top keeping left. There is a clear path taking you upto Moel Y hydd.Buckleymon14/09/2022

Moel-yr-hydd, Molwyn Mawr and Molwyn Bach circular walk from Tanygrisiau. If you follow the footpath on the OS map, it’s hard to find the path. I went upward scrambling, then finally got to the top and found an actual path. Then it was clear to the summit. From Moel-yr-Hydd, there’s a clear path to Molwyn Mawr, a trig point at the top. I went along the ridge as it’s interesting. From Molwyn Mawr, there’s nothing small about Molwyn Bach. You head down to the right and you have to cross two mounds to get the start of the path which is clear to the summit, it’s quite steep. I went over to some interesting stones and pools of water and then descended by the Tanygrisiau reservoir, which has a tarmac path all the way back to the car park.Skarletk26/02/2022
From upper car park next to waterfall, along the Slate Trail to far end on Llyn Cwmartin then up NE ridge, good going all the way. Descent sw Ok but should have continued further in that direction to dam and tarmac road back. Took the other path SE which led to problms getting past lower rock band.dickscroop12/01/2022

Was very close to this a good few years ago when visiting Cnicht and the Moelwyns. This is a worthy hill in its own right, approached from the East, and descended down the Northern col.simocity16/08/2021

Cnicht and the southern Moelwyns from Tanygrisau.Gary Heath30/05/2021
Tanygrisau, along road to Llyn Stwlen for short distance before climbing old incline up through tunnel, steady, to upper quarry. South along terrace to path leading round to west and up little gully to summit. Followed old tramway path to quarry above Llyn Stwlen and descended dam access road.Flatfield18/09/2020
8 mile circular from minor road south of Croesor, walked down to Croesor then good path up side of Cwm Croesor to the ghostly Rhosydd quarry, from there followed footpath south and traversed grassy slopes onto Foel Ddu, then onto Moel-Yr-Hydd, from here we headed SW past the big quarrying hole and up steep grass slopes to Moelwyn Mawr, from here headed down steeply onto Craigysgafn, then interesting rocky descent down to Bwlch Stylan, up onto Moelwyn Bach then back down to car. Great weather with amazing views of every high peak in Snowdonia and all the way along Cardigan Bay, Moelwyn Mawr is probably my favourite view in Snowdonia, considering it was a sunny sunday there were only a few people about. Afterwards drove to and bagged Y Garnedd and Carreg Y Foel-Gron.DanTrig12/07/2020
From Croesor: Cnicht, Cnicht North Top, Moel-yr-hydd, Moelwyn Mawr North Top, Moelwyn Mawr, Craigsgafyn. With a small group from Hiking Manchester. Day started brigt and clear, then became very misty and difficult to navigate. Had to abandon walk and miss out Moelwyn Bach. One for another day...Lazylizzie02/11/2019

This was a great walk. Not sunny but dry and cloud was generally quite high. Great view of Porthmadog and other tops. Loved the ruined quarry landscapes. Hard to comprehend how huge these quarries were and how many people they employ unless you actually go there and walk round. Started in Tanygrisia and up to Rhosydd Quarry, Moel-yrHydd, past the huge 'twll', North Ridge Top, Moelwyn Mawr,Craigysgafn, Moelwyn Bach, down to Croesor village, Cnicht, North Top and then back to the quarry via the col and down to Tanygrisia.tsharp10/09/2018

From layby off A496 near Tan-y-grisiau. 5th of 6 summits in clockwise circuit of the Moelwyns. Straightforward ascent continuing along ridge from Moelwyn Mawr. Great view back to Moelwyn Mawr, Moelwyn Bach and Craigysgafn as well as over Blaenau Ffestiniog/Tan-y-grisiau. Quarry to the north.muzza206/07/2018
A lovely sunny in the Moelwyns. From Croesor up the quarry track, through the old workings and grassy slopes to summit.milimana09/06/2018

Climbed from Tanygrisiau. With year 8 group (12 students)from school and instructor from Arthog outdoor education centre. Via Llyn Cwmorthin and NE ridge (some grade 1 scrambling). Good practice for my MLT as some students nervous and needed spotting on scrambles. Return via 566m bwlch and Llyn y Wrysgan. Explored some old mine workings and tunnels on way down. Good weather (dry, mix of sun and clouds). 5 hours.jamessteel10006/07/2017
