Birthday walk with Paletta. Chose to do the arenigs as they looked so striking from the A4212 on a recent trip. Parked opposite quarry at blocked off carpark. The route which was from Trail mag was labelled easy which probably warrants a complaint letter to them. The route took us south east of the quarry between Daear Fawr and Gelli deg. Any semblance of a path was quickly lost, it was raining and visibility poor. We ended up bashing around in very inhospitable Heather full of deep rivets and surprise holes, the large rocks all seemed unstable and wanted to move, quite litreally everything was slippy. We bashed around here wasting all our energy for 2 hours cursing Trail magazine. My boots were full of water from the get go. We eventually found the higher ground and some vague paths. Once we were on the ridge it was much better and it was apparent that the majority of elevation had been achieved in the Heather struggle. Found moel Lechwed thanks to its big stick, carried on to the faitumpawumpa23/10/2022

With Richie from SH823392. Revisits of Moel Lechwedd and Arenig Fawr (also 22/09/08) followed by AF South Top, Carreg y Diocyn, AF South Ridge Top and Moel Llyfnant. Very wet and windy and the cloud only started to clear when we got to Llyfnant. Nice sunny decent and lovely walk down to Amnodd-wen, during which the birds, which had all been cowering in the undergrowth, suddenly sprang to life. We were treated to good views of a hen harrier, cuckoo, sparrowhawk, redstarts and buzzard.Herbert Anchovy08/06/2019
Started by the gated track a mile past the old quarry where I parked as well. Walked up to the lake, up the steep ridge of Y Castell by which point the clouds where piling in. Followed track over two fences, up to summit ridge in poor visibility and to the summit. Memorial to US airmen of a flying fortress that crashed on the mountain is at the summit cairn. Superb mountain to climb and really quiet, saw more sheep than people on the day.giant_hiker19/05/2019

Solo. From minor road to the north. Parked at junction with dismantled railway. Old railway to sheepfolds then path south. At wall near Nant Goch followed wall uphill on path (faint in places). Wall/fence can be followed to its end where the remains of the demolished wall and the occasional fence post can be followed to summit. Snow on summit and dense low cloud. Descended and looked back at summit to see it cloud free in sunshine (how often this happens). Must return in better weather.mike.hoult29/10/2018

P opposite large Quarry to N of Arenig Fawr. Headed W then N along a good track passing a small quarry - path then turns nasty for a wile but soon becomes a good green track up to col. Visited Moel Llyfnant first then return to col & on to Arenig Fawr S ridge top & S top, then Arenig Fawr herself. Arenig tops quite nice. Return roughly N then W to join outward path passing little quarry.ger28/09/2018
Parked on car park to old Quarry by Clogwyn Du - rose through quarry levels - across Daear fawr - following top of cliff (eastwards) onto Simdde Ddu summit - Arenig Fawr summit and trig - descended to Carreg Y Diocyn - circled plateau - dropped onto valley west side then track via Amnodd Wen and Waun Goch back to Clogwyn Du.briandavies27/09/2018
A Marilyn day on the Arenigs, visiting Moel Lechwedd, Arenig Fawr, Arenig Fawr South Top, Arenig Fawr South Ridge Top, Moel Llyfnant, before going on to climb Arenig Fach and then Mynydd Nodal. Over 20km in 7h30m. (S)silveracorn_alan24/09/2018
From sizeable Quarry cp with JA. Full of a stinking cold. Usual route up. Had it my head I had descended via Simdde Ddu to the right of pt 697m previously... that will be a no. Its very rough pathless holey heathery and minging! Reaching the top of the quarry track was a relief.stig_nest15/09/2018
Walked route 6.1 from the Nuttall's book but in reverse order as it was wet wet wet in the morning and I was hoping the clouds might clear by the time I got to Arenig Fawr (didn't really work). Pretty wet underground. Gallt y Daren, Foel Boeth, Moel Llyfnant and the 3 Arenig Fawr tops. Walked past South Ridge Top and had to go back (rookie mistake).tsharp09/09/2018

From Blaenlliw via Llyfnant. Crowd on summit and south ridge suggests that most approach these hills from the north, probably rightly as the road to the south is gate infested with poor parking. An impressive hill and a nice warm breeze on what was a hot day in the valleys.Topographer5706/05/2018

There is a direct route up Arenig Fawr which starts a mile to the west of Arenig village, but this appears to be an unrelenting trudge beside a fence. The better route is to park just east of the village and take the track which leads to the wild and desolate Llyn Arenig Fawr. After passing the dam I missed the path and followed the lakeside for rather too long before striking off up the hillside and rejoining the path. The buttresses of the ridge Y Castell are striking, and you would think that you were looking at the summit of the mountain. In fact you are still only halfway when you reach the ridge. There is a narrow path which levels out after a mile or so and that is the cue to leave it and head off upwards to the summit ridge, from where fence posts – though not a fence – are followed to the pyramidal summit. Beside the trig point is a memorial to American airmen killed near here in a training accident in 1943, and there were fresh poppies and wooden crosses.peter4lc02/02/2005

In the early 1990s before I had even heard of Simms I did my own personal challenge of all the 600m peaks in Wales. I have a record of the summits but not the dates so I have selected this arbitrary date within the period for them all. Some I missed but this was one I did.dickscroop01/07/1994
