This was a lovely walk. Climbing the western Arans from Cwm Cywarch gives a lovely approach. I climbed Gwaun y Llwyni, Waun Camddwr, Aran Fawddwy (a good view today, so I climbed it again), Gwaun Lydan and Pen yr Allt Uchaf. All finished off with a very steep drop on the northern grassy slope of Pen yr Allt Uchaf.oldbagger2720/06/2023
Coming down from Aran Fawddy as it bottoms out, head left to the next top, very boggy in this area with alot of planks put in place but they have deteriorated over time.Buckleymon09/02/2023

Nuttall's routes 8.1 and 8.3 combined plus a few extras - Pen-aran (at the end of the main ridge - a Bridge), Pen y Byn-fforchog North Top (a Bridge) and Y Gribin (a simm). 12 peaks - 29.93km - 5500 feet - took just under eleven hours (the GPS reckoned three hours were spent sitting on my backside!). Lovely sunny day until I got to Pen y Byn fforchog when the cloud descended and it began drizzling. Route through the forest was horrible.Herbert Anchovy31/07/2020

Traverse of the Aran ridge with my son. Starting from Llanuwchllyn around 1pm and ascending ridge line to Aran Benllyn (885m), Erw y Ddafad-ddu (872m), Aran Fawddwy (905m), Gwaun Y Llwyni (685m) before camping for the night near a stream. Modest winds and cloud around summits. Distance 11.2Km, ascent ~1000m. Day 2 spent mostly in cloud. Ascent of Waun Camddwr (621m), Glasgwm (780m), Pen y Brynfforchorg (685m), and descent to Bwlch Oerddrws. Distance 7.7Km, ascent 373m. Hitch back to car.VirtualMountain26/07/2019

10.2 mile walk from Cwm Cywarch car park followed nice footpath to bottom of Glasgwm, turned right onto boggy track to Nuttall Waun Camddwr then followed trails across stream onto Gwaun Y Llwyni. Returned the same way then onto Glasgwm, after followed easy ridge towards Y Gribin. Descended to col up to Foel Benddin then slogged back onto Y Gribin, followed old miners lane back to road then car park, lovely sunny day with high cloud, great views north and west towards Aran Fawddwy and the rest of Snowdonia and south to Plynlimon. Saw 5 people all day!DanTrig14/04/2018

a cracking hill with great views of Cwm Cywarch. followed the book but cut the corner by following the path straight down rather than go to the cairn . easy grassy tussocks to cross not boggyAristotle Chip07/10/2016
Nuttall Walk WN 8.1 The Aran Ridge from Cwm Cywarch. Visiting Pen y Allt Uchaf, Gwaun Lydan, Aran Fawddwy, Erw y Ddafad-ddu, Aran Benllyn, Gwaun y Llwyni and Waun Camddwr. 19km with 1200m ascent in 7 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan05/10/2016
Aran Fawddwy wildcamp to Drws-y-Nant. Detoured to the memorial cairn on Drws Bach en route. A fine little mountain that looks appealing to climb. We continued to Waun Camddwr taking the direct path by the fence line - a pretty route in hot summer conditions but it was still very wet and could be pain in rain or winter.Jake99416/08/2016
With G. Nuttalls' route from Cywarch > Pen yr Allt Uchaf > Gwaun Lydan > Drysgol > Drws Bach > Aran Fawddwy > Erw y Ddafad-ddu > Aran Benllyn > Gwaun y LLwyni > Waun Camddwr > CywarchRT197016/08/2016
Drove down to the head of valley, go past chapel and phone box, excellent parking for 40+ cars now at SH 85250 18856, complete with loo! Walked short distance back down road and then lane leading to ford and then good track up to the bwlch to the north of Y Gribin. Climbed this and then the good path to summit cairn of Glasgwym. On to Waun Camddwr and Gwaun y Llwyni.nordicstar12/07/2016

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY WITH GOOD VIEWS. FOLLOWED NUTTALLS WALK 8.1 UP THE STEEP GRASS ONTO PEN Y ALLT UCHAF, THEN EASILY OVER GWAUN LYDAN. A STIFF CLIMB ONTO ARAN FAWDDWY, THEN EASY RIDGE WALKING TO ERW Y DDAFAD DDU AND ARAN BENLLYN WITH GOOD VIEWS OVER BALA, RHINOGS AND ARENIGS. RETURNED AVOIDING SUMMITS TO DESCEND STEEPLY AND THEN OVER ROUGH GROUND TO GWAUN Y LLWYNI AND EASILY TO WAUN CAMDDWR. DECIDED TO TAG ON WALK 8.3 TO AVOID RE-ASCENT AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FINE WEATHER AND LONG JUNE DAYLIGHT. A VERY HARD CLIMB ONTO GLASGWM, THEN EASY RIDGE TO FINISH ON PEN Y BRYN FFORCHOG. HOWEVER, THE FOREST HAS BEEN FELLED AND IT WAS VERY TOUGH GOING TRYING TO FOLLOW THE PREVIOUS RIDES UNTIL THE EASY DESCENT OF THE ZIGZAG - 10.5 HOURS WALKING.BURGESS15/06/2015

Up from Cwm Cywarch via Hengwm. Along the ridge to Aran Benllyn and then back to Cwm Cywarch via the waterfalls. Fantastic views. The Nuttalls route less the two outliers, which I did in scorching conditions last summer.ruthatlast02/07/2014
From Gwaun Lydan via Drysgol. Wonderful spot overlooking the head of Hengwm.Mid Summer backpack.mick21/06/2014
The mist cleared and the sun came out 30 minutes before climbing this hill from the North on an epic North to south traverse of the Aran Ridge from Llanuwchylln ending up at the top of the pass on the A470. The views of the Hengwm valley were fantastic from the top. I think this is a beautiful hill especially from the cairn at SH863213. I walked South-west from the summit to see if that end was higher; it wasnt but then climbed down over the Camddwr stream to the rocky outctrops of Waun Camddwr.Dazingdale07/05/2014
On own. Starting from Cwm Cywarch, southernmost four tops on Nuttalls walk 8.1. Then added walk 8.3. A long hard walk, but really enjoyable in dry sunny conditions.Crib Goch21/04/2014
