Parked at The Archway carpark, followed forestry path up, lots of options. Nice circular walk back to carpark.Hippy7713/02/2024
Parked at the Arch and ascended+descended as per Nuttall walk 11.2. With R.Dan Baddeley29/04/2023
A good 3 hour drive down into beautiful countryside, this was my first mountain with our new puppy Narla. Nice and easy and very straightforward to ascend, real shame to see the wind turbines on the tops spoiling the views.Buckleymon19/04/2023

Last Nuttall in South Wales. Room for one car to pull in on the N side of the road just W of the sharp bend at SN791753, but almost got the car stuck on the slippery, muddy steep grass verge. Treat with caution! From there, as others have described, mostly on tracks. Note the summit is not the trig point but 65m further north.Mark Jackson24/11/2022
From the free Arch car park - Nuttall 11.2 - up forest track with views east. Once out of forest followed faint path beyond farm gate to the right of bwf to the summit. Rain started at the top and then most of the way back. 200yr old beech trees just off route in autumn colours looked amazing.richard6921/10/2022

Lovely day, bit windy. Mostly forestry tracks.andrewroberts11/06/2022
As others. Parked at the Arch. Nutalls walk 11.2. Track to end of forest, through a gate then about 300m to summit. Then track along ridge and down to meet Wye Valley way, then down track and ROW past Geihlast farm. 6.5 miles easy track walking, < 2hrs 25 walking timeJulieB04/10/2021
An evening walk after a walk in Elan valley. Having failed to get here the previous day due to a road closure east of Cwmystwyth took the long way round. Started at bend in road due south, had to go a little way down the western branch of the road to the second house using their parking space as house appeared to be unoccupied. First section of path long abandoned, overgrown and boggy. A sign drew me into the fields to the east and an ascent involving at least eight barbed wire fences resulting in torn trousers. At the end there is a track not shown on the map going right to the summit. Followed the good track down to within 3/4 kilometre of the start and used the boggy and overgrown path - but no barbed wire! A pleasant short walk except for the start, I suspect the route from The Arch mentioned by others works out better though is a good deal longer. If you use my route take care with the parking and persevere with the initial boggy path, two ruined buildings give an indication of tdickscroop25/09/2021
Room for one car at sharp bend to south. Farmer disagreed. Once tracks reached easy going to top and down towards Truman.lordtonult20/09/2021

from arch via truman, nutall route from track stunning views at top with Manon on to cefn croesunderhill11/07/2020
Parking at the picnic area near The Arch. Up the track to turbines and short cross moor to summit. Much drier than the other routes read about, and easy to descend in the dark following lovely sunset over a fog bound Cardigan Bay. 3/3 Marilyn. Short cut directly to track rather than the loop via turbines.N.Morters23/01/2020
From bend in minor road to the south. The first section of path is very wet, but persevere, they then improve and the rest of the route is very pleasant with good views.Winterfloodian16/09/2019
From the south starting at minor road hairpin after parking 100m further south. Path shown on map is a swamp. Tracks are then OK, there is an unmarked track up the crest of the south ridge to the summit. Wind turbines on north side.Topographer5707/09/2019

From the south. Room to park one car in long grass (June) roadside at SN791753. Then walk track and then long grass field to a good track at 792759 from then very good cart track to the summit shelter.G4OBK (Phil)05/06/2019
4.1 mile out-and-back from minor road north of Cwmystwyth, followed track up edge of forest not marked on OS maps and then up zigzag lane onto the hill, great views on this clear, hot and sunny day stretching from Snowdonia, to the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire National Park. Earlier that day re-bagged Pen Pumlumon Llygad-Bychan and Plynlimon and bagged Y Garn, later that day bagged Esgair Penygarreg.DanTrig01/06/2019
With Isla from the arch. Circular route, 7.4 miles ,1400 feet of ascent including detour to avoid some rather frisky bovine teenager types.crax7327/05/2019
On the first day of three in Wales with Smithy & Shaky. From the car park at the Arch. The usual route from there was blocked off due to operations to contain a tree fungus as it turned out, so we took the westerly branch at the first 4-way junction instead, passing to the W of Bryn-llwyd & Truman. Although this adds 1km or so to the walk, the views are more extensive to W & N due to tree felling. Rejoined main track & then through gate at edge of forest, up slope keeping fence on L & then diagonally across slope to the summit. Back by the same route. The last of the hot, sunny April spell.NotReallyABagger21/04/2018

After lots of messing about trying to find route (without map) including climbing Bryn-llwyd. Unofficial route but was scenic and sun came out to give an unexpectedly good end to the day. Great scenery (apart from the obvious) and got even better on drive home. Very like Southern Uplands but mercifully less spoilt.Wycombe Wanderer10/02/2017
A grand walk over Llan Ddu Fawr and Pen y Garn from the church at Rhaeadr Peiran, W of Cwmystwyth (Hafod estate). Down to Dologau, using all short cuts, then the lovely footpath along Nant Gau, with a surprising section with a handrail. Short cut up to bridleway, followed SW uphill to a good footpath cutting up hill E to the end of the forest road 773728. S, NE then SE to pick up a rough ATV track at 783711 across the bogs onto the hill, and straight up to the pools at 786704 and then to the trig. Great views, Anglesey to B. Beacons. To summit of Llan Ddu Fawr, then Bryn Dafydd (excellent mossy bogs), followed fence and then track down to Cwmystwyth. Up the road to 791754 to pick up track, dodging wet bits by a ruin to good track all the way to within 10 feet of the trig on Pen y Garn. Great views. Nasty rough stuff down to the wind turbines, then back through the forest, via branch at 786771 and home via Pwllpeiran.Gill20/01/2017
From unclassified road north of Cwmystwyth (396m marker on OS map). Boggy for few 100m but good track after.Chris Williams20/12/2016

Parked on the forestry track on the left just after the turn off for the Hafod Estate (heading Aberystwyth to Cwmystwyth). Rain at first but luckily it cleared and beautiful, big, cloud views on the summit. Quick sandwich on the very welcome stone windbreak due to the strong south-westerly on the top, and then back down, through the woods and to the car. Bendigedig!stridingElephant25/09/2016

Parking for one car (just) about 50m from track off minor road nr Lluest. Very wet in places, wellies advisable! Once on hard surface track an easy walk with gates all way and no need to hop barbed wire fences. A fine summit shrlter and trig, better than the gated corner overlooking the sinister turbines. Up and back down to car w Jenx in 90 mins.nordicstar23/02/2016
