Parked in the quarries car park at the top of the pass to the NW. Garreg Lwyd (trig & cairn), Foel Fraith, Garreg Las and return by the same route. Dry and sunny, although frozen and frosty underfoot with a chilly wind. Only met two soldiers on a training hike. An excellent half day walk before the long drive home. Enjoyable 4 top circular walk from the high car park to the west. Intermittent sunshine and passing showers with a really quite stunning rainbow lasting a good while whilst we were up here. | Alex C | 05/11/2023 |
DOP at Mountain Road Car Park (SN 732187 - 4km North of SA18 1AN (Upper Brynamman), Route total 13.5km completed in 2 hrs 37 mins. Cloud layer 550-700m. Periods of low vis <50m. Route included scrambling for a short section up to Carreg-Las. Dry. Winds gusting to 45mph. | ChrisMc0164 | 23/10/2023 |
First I climbed Garreg Lwyd (616m) and trigpoint, the onto Foel Fraith (602m). From there I took a detour to Carn Fadog (512m). Then onto the highest and most outlying summit for today, Garreg Las (635m) and then onto the trigpoint and summit which lies beyond, Carreg Yr Ogof, a beautiful spot. Time was getting on but I managed to include Cefn y Cylchau (556m) on the way back and a fairly direct route back to Herberts Quarry allowed me to finish in daylight. A very scenic walk in this remote area. /D | meltdiceburg | 23/10/2023 |

2nd of 4 Marilyn's and 1 Hewitt for the day. With KeithByTheC. Parked at car park at top of pass. Followed the Beacons Way to the summit. Awful weather so returned the same route. 1.5 miles, under 45 min walking time. | JulieB | 07/10/2021 |
From Mountain Road Car Park on A4069. Direct ascent southeast on faint grassy path. 45 minutes up and back. | KeithByTheC | 07/10/2021 |
Garreg Lwyd, Foel Fraith and Garreg Las. A selection of small car parks NW of Garreg Lwyd, any of which will do. A path all the way up Garreg Lwyd and over the succeeding tops. Cut the corner on approach to Garreg Las but nothing gained as ground somewhat more awkward. Set out to return by Beacon Way but it either disappears or I lost it so finished up contouring Foel Fraith and re-ascending Garreg Las but all easy going with sheep trods etc. A very pleasant uncomplicated walk. | dickscroop | 06/10/2021 |

Walk in the Black Mountain range, paths not as clear as other parts of the Brecons, but that gives a bit more adventure! Mountain pass car park had plenty of spaces, and a good place to start a walk. | JazDisney | 26/06/2021 |

With: hb; Parked in CP at top of pass and used good path south east to the ancient summit cairn. Visited the OS trigpoint as well which is one of the GPS network. Returned north to Foel Fawr then down. So many sink holes here that the mountain must be constructed like a swiss cheese. | Ian Baines | 24/08/2020 |
