On the first day of a long weekend visit to Haggerston Castle Caravan Park, Northumberland I headed back over the border for some of the Cheviot Hills. Starting at Cocklawfoot I went up Windy Gyle (619m) a Donald, with along a stone pitched path within the Northumberland National Park and up to Cairn Hill West Top (743m) a Donald Top, more a bump on the way up to The Cheviot, but classified as a hill, since it right on the border. By this point the overcast but dry weather had been replaced with mist and no visibility for the final ascent up a stone flagged path to the Cheviot (815m), a Marilyn. I then retraced my steps back to Cairn Hill West Top and then down Auchope Rigg, with a wee stop at the shelter, 07:10hrs all in.chillyman810/09/2021

Parked on the minor road at the bottom of Barrow Law and walked up the military road towards Rowhope. I passed the farmhouse and the empty property located at Trows. Shortly after I left the cement track and started heading properly uphill on the grassy route. The ascent isn’t particularly steep and I arrived at the intersection with the Pennine Way after about 50minutes. I really wanted to hang around but it was too cold and there were no views to be had. I head West along the Pennine Way for about a mile before leaving that route and heading down ‘The Street’. It was nice to get below the cloud and admire the views. I crossed over Black Braes and Swineside Law before I arrived back at my vehicle. Total miles walked: 7.52. In 2hrs and 28mins.JamesJones19/03/2021

From the parking area NT 859 114 below Rowhope. Followed the bridleway up the ridge to the border, diverting the short distance to bag Swineside Law. On reaching the border headed SW on the PW over Mozie Law to Beefstand Hill along often half submerged flagstones. Then returned along the border ridge over Windy Rig to the summit of Windy Gyle. Then S down the bridleway along the Trows Law ridge to Trows, Rowhope and the parking area. Grand tour despite the wetness underfoot and sometimes from the sky as well! 16km with 600m of ascent in 4 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan07/07/2020
