I fair enjoyed trying to make sense of the tracks in the middle of Storm Babet. Grim weather conditions when I emerged from the trees.David Bremner21/10/2023
A sense of humour is essential for this hill.Chris Peart25/04/2023
From North, following forest tracks up edderton hill towards water reservoir, the final track is overgrown but has a pedestrian path through the scrub. Very windy and wet one out of the trees. Beat a hasty retreat.cjo30/09/2022
MC JC DC O From the E along forest tracks from the CP. Last km across deep moss and heather.Martin6620/05/2022
Second ascent, this time from E with Martin66, JC & O from car park at end of road above Tain. Followed forest tracks including a few not marked on any map & thrashed away over rough stuff for the final km. Other way from Edderton Mains is much better.NotReallyABagger20/05/2022
Followed Gill's route, walking a little beyond the hole in the fence to reach a gate and path. An oddly fascinating hill: 20% walk, 80% puzzle.Nick Down104/09/2021
A battle through the upper treesSpudGunn09/06/2021
With J on a showery day but still with views to be had. Followed Gill's well described route. The hole in the fence is still there. The last bit of track described is now very overgrown with saplings, fallen branches, gorse and heather making it likely to be an increasingly hard battle as time goes by.NotReallyABagger17/05/2021
From Tain Hill Car Park. Mountain bike along forest tracks to gap in trees at 72818101 then directly to summit.Winterfloodian31/10/2020

We followed Gill’s route which worked perfectly. Thank you Gill.Lionel Bidwell15/09/2020
Solo trip. Approached from the Tain Hill car park to the east. This is a straightforward route, described by LB on the Caledonia Hilltreks website. The car park now takes 10-12 vehicles. At NH72818101 there is a newly bulldozed track through the (otherwise now impenetrable) young forest to the open moor above where saplings have been planted; beware holes and tussocks, it is quite rough going to the summit. Beautiful in the sunshine though.Invicta1415/09/2020

Gill’s route wasn’t too bad.Jon F14/08/2020
As per Gill.Cheers Gill, worked a treat. Great views. Both summit contenders visited. With PM.CJM13/02/2020
From the 2nd waterboard entrance at Edderton Mains. Followed Gills excellent route with CM. A good day with clear views, no wind tucked between storms Ciara and Dennis!bolton13/02/2020
a bit hairy with wind blown and felled trees at the summit mud bath on th way up tracksVerySlowPlodder18/01/2020
As per Gill's route-easy. Final track running north/south becoming overgrown with healthy saplings so will become tricky to walk soon.dave g21/12/2019
Took Gill’s route and the deer fence still has the whole in it.Peterb17/10/2019
2 of 3: From Hill of Tain. Direct, very slow, marshy and then rough ground. Returned to Tain Hill CP via virtually non existant track north of Lochan Uaine. Back on good track at 739815. Much quicker from Edderton.ChrisR16/09/2019
Parked at upper Edderton Reservoir car park. Then zigzaged up to the benches. Through hole in fence and 50m of bash to main track. Followed that until due west of trig. 300m easy heather bash from there.garyhoney29/07/2019
A confusion of non-mapped tracks and mapped non-tracks. Take a GPS or follow Gill's route. I did the former and still got way-laid a couple of times!summitter18/07/2019
Parked at upper Edderton Reservoir gates. Tracks as others. Went slightly wrong above the bench area, ended up going too Far East on track. Took ATV along wall then over moor. Down more directly to tracks.N.Morters15/03/2019
Bagging the trig.BigJ21/02/2019
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log: Parked at NH 71562 83394, then took mapped tracks to NH 72007 83457, then to NH 71808 82985 (a seat with a great view), then along the fenceline to a gate in the deer fence at NH 71970 82918, along the track until we were about 300m from the trigpoint and headed up towards a post at NH 71949 81696 and onto the trigpoint. Only the last 300m is pathless heather. Back via the same route. Great day out.thejackrustles12/08/2018
Gill's directions spot on. Key to the route is the hole in the fence.Crumblie212/04/2018
The 1:25K map is wrong so here's how. Park at the second Waterboard track up the hill from Edderton mains. Through the gate, turn right immediately. Zig-zag up, left, then right (track junction, mapped), then left (unmapped at 1:25K but on 1:50K)) to a bench and water board structure. Turn right, to the fence, go through the hole, cross rough ground, over a derelict track (mapped both scales) then up to a massive logging road (on the 1:50K map but not 1:25K). Turn right, then next left up the hill (mapped, but the downhill continuation is fictional). Right at a fork, follow to the end. Over heather and brash a few yards in the same line until a felled area below you, and turn left up through well spaced trees and to the top. Good luck.Gill03/04/2018
From NH 7156 8340. Wide grassy track to NH 7159 8294 when it gets a bit tricky, but persevere to NH 7151 8288 when track resumes and progresses well to NH 7180 8177 whence it's off piste through light self-seeded immature conifers then out onto open fellside. With Carole Engel.jonglew02/04/2018
From north on mapped tracks to NH 71590 82930. From here the thru' track does not exist but there is hole in the deer fence to the west at NH 71569 86926. Short band easy forest to cross to mapped tracks leading west, then SE towards summitcarole engel02/04/2018
Edderton Mains, higher of the 2 water board accesses with parking, 716834. Track, sometimes difficult to find, up west side of hill to high point. No open moor as shown on map, but scrubby trees, easy to push through. Sunny day, threatening showers but dry this time.iangalbraith11/08/2017
Tain Hill CP, then forest, then very boggy past loch, then very rough to summit. On to Tain Hill. Also climbed 13/05/2012Thearlaichdubh21/05/2017

From the higher gated entrance. Grass tracks lead as far as an old deer fence that can be crossed at a t-junction to regain - after a scramble over a bank - to the track shown on the 1:50k map. When the top comes in view take the shorter left track, it extends via ATV lines to near the summit. My 1000th Scottish Marilyn:-)nordicstar24/03/2016
Not totally straight forward, but easy enough if you take time to work out the route. Collected little trees at the top. They had all been uprooted in some sort of ongoing clearance.....not sure for what. Wind farm or more forestry?jenx24/03/2016
From 300m south of Edderton Mains. It looks an easy track most of the way but there is a break in the track that is defended by head high bracken. Detoured east on ascent but tried direct route down, ouch. Summit is defended by uncomfortable ground.Topographer5719/10/2015
Mmm plantations and then springy moss. My faves.Martin R26/09/2015
from the edderton side on good tracks.robertphillips11/06/2015
Anticlockwise round of both hills called Cnoc-an t-Sabhail from Rhanich. Very rough descent over felled area at endPeteN29/03/2015
Parked near Leathley Lodge. Tried following tracks through forest as marked on map, but some inaccurate/non-existent. Eventually got through to open hillside and a trak towards the summit. Not a pleasant hill.AndrewFinnimore15/12/2013

Very awkward approach from the north with a lot of fallen treesduchally05/01/2013
This was my second attempt on this summit as on my first I failed to find the summit due to low cloud and rain. This time was more straightforward.JohnW18/06/2012
From Car Park at NH 753 813 followed forest tracks to Lochan Uaine. 200m past the lochan turned right up track, leaving it after 100m to cross rough ground direct to the summit.martin_hall31/03/2012

Parked at FC car park to E. Nice walk up through woods, spoilt by final section from Lochan Uaine which is rough going over moorland.PeteF17/08/2010
Not a hill to navigate off of in the dark without prior survey! Much felled forestry on western side and 1:25K mapped track eastwards from summit area was blocked by fallen trees after entering woods.Smudge09/01/2009
Revisit. From NNWRHW23/12/2007
