From NE, NX 36519 81944, didn't investigate other entry points. Easy walk to quarry, then mapped track best bet despite windthrow. At L bend I abandoned track, at NX 35132 81123 made beeline thru reasonable forest. Both pairs of HPs visited. Considered descending firebreak NE but immediately encountered windthrow, so reversed my upward route. Over 2hrs! | RHW | 17/10/2023 |
Parked at wide track turning area (NX 3436 8067). Walked 100m back along track (NW direction) to take a very rough, virtually non-existent break running ENE between mature trees and clear fell. On hitting the wall headed SE for the top. Should have done Balunton from same parking spot. | jonglew | 27/07/2021 |
FB South then NE from Balunton Hill (not where it is mapped, but easily found) then wall to top. Some rough ground on the way & plenty flies. | agentmancuso | 23/07/2020 |
Glencaird hill visited all areas and balunton hill Drove up to the quarry at approx 355 816 followed track which has many trees wind blown. | robertphillips | 08/03/2020 |
Up track from A714 SW of hill. Due E from high point to trig (BH). Firebreaks to wall which bisects CB and GH. First CB (cairn) then GH (outcrop by tree). | chrisbien | 26/06/2018 |
1st of 6 hills today. Bus from Girvan to Glen Trool then a walk to visitor centre cafe, opening at 10.30am for soup and coffee. Gloves recommended for this area. Back to road (cycle route 7) then veering off to walk over clear-felled section to meet track then headed W and Sw on previous forest ride but now replanted heading Nw on next forest ride and then shorter Sw section before following fenceline to craggy outcrops and 343m spot height. I didnt get anything higher tgan 338m however i explored Carn Balreggan to the Sw and this is a small open area with a Cairn snd i got 340m for this. Next hill: Balunton Hill. | Dazingdale | 19/05/2017 |
