Parked at SD 16832 98030 where there is a gentle contouring path to Hare Gill then up over knolls to the top(s). | DC11main | 11/02/2023 |
2nd hill on walk from Eskdale Gren to Old Dungeon Ghyll via The Boot Inn, and a good hill | trimarc2 | 03/11/2022 |
7/16. Ideal way to gain height easily on the well made zig zag path wending up through broken rock buttresses. Initially at the dog leg start in error I went into the adjacent lower wood via a 5 bar gate and thought it was 'rather overgrown' Nice simple rocky and grass top then on to its 10m higher near neighbour - Brantrake Crags. | Chris Pearson | 26/03/2022 |
There is parking at start of BW, but I had parked at Forge Bridge and did this after Muncaster Fell. Up zig zags then easy route to top. On to Brantrake. | PeterD | 22/07/2021 |
Easy walk over from Brantrake Crags with Alfie. Visited the East Top then back down the zigzag path to the van at Forge Bridge. A lovely little walk. | Dangerous Dave | 20/04/2021 |
Easy access up zig-zag track | conanharrod | 21/02/2021 |
A lockdown treat
2nd top after Brantrake, truly lovely, very rocky scramble to the top. Good views of Boot and beyond. Heard grouse on the moor beyond. A frosty day with sun and exceptionally clear visibility. A training walk for the healing knees. | Karmakarl | 12/01/2021 |
Garner Bank, Brantrake Crags, Redbrow Bank, Smithy Mire | IWC | 16/10/2020 |
1/4 Parked just beyond bends on road down to Eskdale Green, walked up round the head of the Ghyll and strike over fell to Garner Bank, then on to Brantrake Crags. Down the lovely Bridleway to valley, use lanes to work round to footpath to West of Redfbrow Bank then over Redbrow Bank and Smithy Mire. Fantastic hot day, couldn't have done much more. | nickywood1 | 01/06/2020 |
From Brantrake Crags. Future-proofed myself by walking over NE and E tops. Rockier and drier ground than expected and fine, rocky summit. Returned to car and end of day's walking. Not a classic in the dank conditions but still good to be out in the fells. | Wycombe Wanderer | 02/12/2019 |
With Brantrake Crags from minor road to ESE at SD 16828 98030. | David Gradwell | 08/06/2019 |
Parking spot at the start of the bridleway to the north-west (difficult to find as the signpost is low down). Messy, wet walk until the ascent starts then it becomes a clear, dry track to an easy to spot summit. | moorsman | 10/05/2019 |
Seat How, Rough Crag (Birker Moor), Water Crag, Brantrake Crags, camped at col then Garner Bank. Returned to start then short walk over Redbrow Bank and Smithy Mire. | RobertP | 17/03/2019 |
Well constructed old Bridleway once away from stone wall. A nice pair of little craggy tops above Eskdale. With Bryher on a beautiful sunny day. | jenx | 27/02/2019 |
small cairn on granite slabs, windy, sun breaking through. From Brantrake Crags. With Selvyn and Richard. | Denise | 29/12/2018 |
Great views of Brantake Crags lit by low winter sunshine. High point cairn on granite outcrop. | RichardM | 29/12/2018 |
Parking for a few cars at the road junc (SD 1710 9771). Nice short round of local hills: Seat How -> Rough Crag -> Water Crag -> Brantrake Crags -> Garner Bank. | jonglew | 09/12/2018 |
Via FP from SD 1454298573 - NB, the FP fingerpost is only about 0.5m tall and is easily overlooked in the overgroown vegetation. | Isbjorn | 09/12/2018 |
Debs and Tali, Garner Bank then along the ridge to Lease Knott picking up the tops. | Mountain Goat | 25/08/2018 |
With Rick and Charles | thenomad | 05/12/2017 |
With Charles E and Steve Lewis (first four hills) from road crossroads at Birker Fell minor road. Rough Crag > Water Crag (repeats for me) then down to cross Brantrake moss and lovely old sheilings and ancient sheepfolds.
