New housing on the SE edge of Cockermouth meant that the RoW shown on my map was wrong. It now seems best to go along the railway line path to its end, cross the road bridge, go along the north side of Tom Rudd Beck and then stay outside the new development. Once the development is finished it may be possible to go through it. | Alan Moore | 03/12/2023 |
After descending Watch hill, track past Wyndham house and path past Annfield farm. Through 2 gates at top up right to summit. Back same way. | Flatfield | 27/08/2023 |
1 of 4 parked up in the lay-by of aurs drive for a couple of days. Left at the footpath lane and left again and field. Onto the golf course | The-Z-Man | 21/08/2022 |

Went up from the footpath at Bellbrigg Lonning as part of an 18km run loop | snoot | 09/05/2020 |
Parking tight between the golf course and Slate Fell. I went over a very flooded track before ascending easily to the fairways. The summit mound looks artificial. Slate Fell was better, with some pleasant rock outcrops | Colin Crawford | 20/02/2020 |
From centre of Cockermouth. Through estate and on RoW. Straightforward access. Windy & drizzle. | Moorponder | 02/01/2020 |
Very easy layby parking 200m NW of the Slate Fell signpost. Back along the road and a good path leads up the hill. Cut straight up when level with the summit | moorsman | 17/10/2019 |
Parking on wide N grassy verge at NY1500030500, but nasty to set off due to fast traffic coming over blind summit. RoW Westwards. | Isbjorn | 12/10/2019 |
The sun came out for us on this one. Very nice! | jenx | 09/02/2019 |
With Jenx and Bryher from same point after Golf Club Hill again. High point away from fence, to both GPS confirms | nordicstar | 09/02/2019 |
After dark didn't do this hill justice, although the lights from the surrounding towns and vilages were perhaps a good enough reason to do this at night. Roadside verge parking on minor road to ENE. RoW mostly. Returned to the road and went straight across for the Golf Club hill. | jonglew | 14/12/2017 |
Dark and raining.Lovely -not. By headtorch with Darren from road top after Golf Course .Last of a 4 hr 8 Tump tour by car and foot. A hill popular with Cockermouth dog walkers up from the Slate Fell housing estate at the western foot, - but unsurprisingly not tonight. | Chris Pearson | 01/11/2017 |

In rapidly fading light from road on FP and then through field to top. | PeterD | 29/12/2016 |
With Cockermouth Golf Course from road summit | jimbloomer | 15/10/2015 |
F/p from ENE to start but circuitous approach owing to cows/calves/bull. Summit area covered in gentle grassy pits. And sheep. | Aye Jimmy | 22/07/2015 |
With Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 13/02/2015 |
After Golf Course hill, past car and FP up hill to gate. Cut back up minor trod to fell top. Summit in open field. Back to car at road inside 10 mins. | nordicstar | 02/12/2014 |
Followed RoW from ENE. Nice top - great views to the Lake District fells.
I think RHW has reversed his comments for Cockermouth Golf Course and Slate Fell. | Crib Goch | 16/09/2014 |
Pitted pasture (old workings?), lovely Lakes view. From E (comments corrected - sorry!) | RHW | 22/04/2012 |
