From the busy Old May Beck free carpark, walked up E on path through wet, shoulder high bracken to Shooting House Rigg, with wild heather moorland. Remains of stone cross near HP. With Jo, circular walk from road opposite Whinstone Ridge cp (cp being used at moment for storing road materials): Sleights Moor then NW to trig, then moor and tracks eastwards to Littlebeck, then onto Fylingdales Moor, then turning south on track to Stony Leas Louven Howe (top and 2 trigs), before returning NW along deep rutted wet track to car. Known locally as Shooting House Rigg. Fylingdales Moor itself reaches almost 1000ft further south. 
 
Easy parking alongside the Maybecks road close to the track up towards the summit. Pass through two gates onto the open access area and follow the track to the summit. 
Very difficult to identify the actual top. Lots of other spots appear higher until you actually climb, them then look back to where you have come from to see you have gone downhill! | moorsman | 12/08/2013 |
