From parking and stile at SX 6954 8023 - wide grassy track leads to stream. At SX 6945 8019 take path half right thru' reeds and stream (currently dry) to mapped BW. North to wall - not much of a path up wall but easy going. Path from summit to Birch Tor. Lovely circular walk using Two Moors Way and BW.carole engel28/06/2018
Short round of 4 Dartmoor hills, this the last. From Hameldown. Return to car at SX 6797 8159. Lot of bracken.jonglew22/06/2018
Parked at roadside near brow of hill and went up Hookney Tor, across to Hameldown then straight doen and across the road and up Challacombe Down and completed the round with Birch Tor. Paths nearly all the way.clivevilla14/11/2017
Summit is by wall- apparently an ancient rabbit breeding enclosure. Purple heather to N and grass to south of wall ( easier walking) with a stile near the summit to cross the wall. We approached from the East, crossing the river over boggy pathless Access land and returned north, finding a delightful unmarked path along the ridge then west to Vitifer mine, linking with the other mapped pathsDenise 13/08/2017
Large levelish summit with high point crossed by rabbit proof wall. Grass S side, heather N side. Could probably have found an easier route than the one we took from Grimspound with barbed wire fences, marsh and chest high bracken .RichardM13/08/2017
Another fascinating stone row passed on the way across the ridge to the high point.Dangerous Dave12/06/2017
Continuation from Birch Tor. Followed path south to a col, then onwards by a stone row and up to a wall, with gate. To descend, dropped east to the road, following it south for several kilometres, then drover's track over the south shoulder of Hameldown and back down to Widdecombe. Solo.Man of Kernow129/04/2017

Verge parking to south east at 695803 where a stile over the fence gives access to the open access area. Follow this down, across the river and turn right along the main track. Follow this to the wall where a path leads upwards crossing through the fence via a bridle gate.moorsman21/08/2014
