Permissive access track to 2029 0347, where a gate gave access (not permitted) to HP in crop field, only practicable by following field edge/ tractor lines. We returned to 2029 0347, there didn't seem any other sensible way. The serious business of enjoying the excellent cliff and bay scenery followed, with a walk and picnic. Used good, free car park. with L and Darren. A silly traipse around houses to field top ( and a crawl to a higher bench at garden end behind hedge.)We were then stunned by the geology on Widemouth Bay - part of the famous Bude Formation and noted for its upended layers of sandstone and shale beds with incredible curved folding - like stretched plastocene. How can rocks do this! Unbelievable to read that this happened when supercontinent of Pangea was formed by Gondwana crushing into LauRussia 320 million years ago. Also very odd rock at N end of beach - egg box like rock of protruding ironstone rims around a softer quicker eroding siltstone centre - with glacial till above. A 12 km coast walk south to St Genny's in gloom with occasional driving drizzle. Scrambled up Black Rock protruding out of the beach - very popular with families and surfers.Chris Pearson20/08/2018
