Welly wander
17.5km Wellington, Black Down Cmmon, Culmstock Beacon & Sampford Common | Clifford | 29/12/2023 |
Parked on the roadside to the north and then up through access land. Very muddy, but beautiful views from the top | Nicky C | 13/11/2022 |
Verge parking to E. ROW to Access Land, then steeply up (steep enough to make this seem like a proper hill!). Track W, then small path from ST 1189 1697 to summit. | PGCE | 09/12/2021 |
Back again to visit the northern 268m HP which I overlooked on my previous visit | fosal29 | 16/10/2019 |
Short walk up to the mast from parking near Crossways Farm | fosal29 | 15/07/2019 |
Pleasant woodland walk from E up to mast. High point looks to be ancient bank adjacent to track. | Campbell Singer | 31/03/2019 |
Roadside verge parking just E of Crossways Farm. HP in fenced off woodland N of the RoW. | jonglew | 29/03/2019 |
Parking OK. Visited both summits regions. | jimbloomer | 25/01/2019 |
Parking near Crossways farm. Went to both 268 spot heights.
The one by the mast seemed higher according to technology.
Earthbank by mast much higher than surrounding terrain. | PeterD | 13/05/2018 |
Two possible high points a short distance apart: spot heights on north and south edge of contour. Both are indistinct on flattish areas with no line of sight between them . The south is near an aerial in forest; the north is on nearby heathland in bracken. We thought the North higher but hard to tell. Pleasant walk from the Wellington memorial. | Denise | 17/10/2017 |
Track from E. High point in forest on SE side of comms mast eclosure. The 268m spot height on Sampford Common is on pleasent heather heathland but is shown as lower on the 2 1/2 inch to 1 mile 1961 OS map. | RichardM | 17/10/2017 |
Large comms tower near the summit which itself is fairly non descript. Lovely nearby woods and heaths. | broser | 06/01/2017 |
Another of my iffy ticks. I got near enough to the top for me to count it. If I was doing it nowadays, I'd use the OSGR to get to the official high point. | Alan Moore | 09/08/2016 |
From N; E probably more convenient. Nnw summit level heathery crossed by talL hedge bank, no obvious hp contenders. Sse summit level brackeny heathland similarly indeterminate. | RHW | 30/06/2016 |
