Swam across from rocks to SE (NB 5592 4737). Surprisingly easy scramble up and over the flying buttress. | jonglew | 24/05/2022 |
Nice landing halfway along SE shore immediately L of obvious ramp, easy slabs up L, traverse R then cross flying buttress arch to easy ground, L up grass ridge to small scrambly summit block, SW summit 3m lower (Lidar - would be a sensational arete crossing). From NW, car park at NB534491. I kayaked (thanks for the loan Jon) the others walked beach and headland for easy descent to shore opposite stac, then made 170m swim, adverse inshore current (incoming tide). Reasonable kayak landing at mid tide, wouldn't recommend solo. The last of our set of 7 Lewis E coast tump stacks, very pleasing. | RHW | 24/05/2022 |
Walked south east from New Tolsta carpark, along beach and up onto headland, descending down a grassy slope to the east of Stack to rock slabs. Here we changed into wetsuits, then , carrying ropes/ climbing gear in floating bags, we swam across to the centre of the SW side where there is a large diagonal crack and exposed rocks , where we landed. ( Rob by kayak). We scrambled up the crack, then traversed right (NE) and then ascended a wonderful flat surfaced angled slab with arch underneath to the grassy ridge. Easily SW up ridge to NE HP, pinnacle - shaped rock outcrop. SW HP lower, not visited and ridge rather loose to cross. No ropes needed. Returned same way. Final of 8 p30 Lewis stacks. | Denise | 24/05/2022 |
