From water tower. | sclater | 25/01/2023 |
After a wonderful walk and lunch in Shefford, this top really didn't promise any challenge.
Parked up at the entrance of the water tower and walked along the road to what appeared to be the top. We had to jump into the edge a few times when cars sped by. | ChinnockC | 19/09/2020 |
My grandad took me here after school. We parked at the gates and walked round the back where there isn't any fencing so could bag the benchmark on the water tower. | williamglew | 15/09/2020 |

Along road from water tower. | Bramley | 12/04/2019 |
Parked beside water tower which is an intersected station and also has a cut mark. Then walked along the road to bag the Tump summit. | Dugswell2 | 25/02/2019 |
For anyone collecting A1 memorabilia ? ( Britain’s longest road at 410 miles from London to Edinburgh) there is a 10 foot square A1 overnight closure info metal sign lying abandoned in the summit grass verge. No doubt someone would buy it on eBay if you could cart it away without getting flattened in the process on this hideously busy link road. Best maybe to leave it for future archaeologist to get excited about as they did when finding bits of Iron Age pottery and field patterns when examining a water pipe trench dug from the tall water tower. Next stop a packed Luton Airport for flight to Malaga for half term week in the peaceful sunny Sierra Nevada mountains. | Chris Pearson | 16/02/2019 |
My 1st tump of 2019 and 1st of 5 tops on a route from Langford to Luton. Train to Bedford then bus to Henlow, 188 bus to Langford then a slog along the very busy road, on the 'verge' of discovery. Checked out the Water Tower then more Verging to make sure i hadn't missed a section then over to 77m spot height and returning on bridleway then used footpath alongide stream to return to Henlow. Onwards to Meppershall... | Dazingdale | 12/01/2019 |

On way home from Richie's. Brief diversion off the A1 in the dark. | Herbert Anchovy | 06/02/2018 |
Stopped on road and scaled the highest verge. Ignominious county completion. Thank goodness for spellcheck. | Campbell Singer | 22/11/2017 |
Walked up paths from Astwick, (as quicker farm track private, no ROW). Pleasant walk until the final bit, along a very busy country road, not even a B road! Reached summit on grass verge south side of road as per grid reference given, but felt like we had already traversed the highest point anyway, returned same way along grass verge to be sure. | pdantic | 09/11/2017 |
As for ngthack. | arranc | 14/10/2017 |
Around the tower and along the road. Highest seemed to be on S verge of road running SW from tower. | Aye Jimmy | 30/09/2017 |
Also did lap of water tower and reservoir. | KC | 03/09/2017 |
Parking for one vehicle by water tower entrance. Wandered around a bit, as others. | ngthack | 04/08/2017 |

I couldn't find a definitive high point but wandered about a bit so must have reached it... Seems to be somewhere near the water tower. | Richard Lawrenc | 14/07/2017 |
Biggleswade to Arlesey. Not a road to walk along & assess its ups & downs - frighteningly busy - although pleasant panorama to S. | Smudge | 30/06/2017 |
Walked round covered resr and wtr twr compound. 77m spot height also investigated. Couldn't identify a definitive HP but will have walked over it. ***Revisited 15 Sep 2020 to bag benchmark on the tower. | jonglew | 13/06/2017 |
Approximate date. Cycle ride. Returned on 22/07/2017, parked up briefly and walked along to the highest point of the road which must be more or less the highest natural point. | Owen B | 10/09/2016 |
