Parking to the north east at the start of the bridleway. Follow the track as far as the 3rd Military notice. Cross the fence here and a track leads from this point to within 15m of the easy to spot summit. | moorsman | 26/03/2023 |
4/7 of a round of hills around Ripon. Followed Ronnie's route. Visited both official high point and the mound. No MOD activity today. | silveracorn_alan | 05/02/2023 |
15.16 ROW from road to north till half broken down bit of fence and along tracks in MOD land to flat high point. Extra bit of track direct to summit area that's not marked on my 1:25k map on phone.back to minus one for N Yorkshire. Now to knock that off Swinden Hill above the Quarry north of Cracoe next week. | vegibagger | 14/11/2022 |
From NE, 1 parking space at start of RoW, followed RoW then thru open woodland to pick up unpaved road, L fork crosses level summit area, Ronaldo's 2m mound is on lower ground. N York's recompleted for the dozenth time | RHW | 06/11/2022 |
Easy over fence at SE 27641 73816 on to wide track, almost to the summit.
Momentarily concerned about a short burst of gunfire, but sounded more like pheasant murder than little boys playing at war games. | Martin R | 04/11/2022 |
Hollin Head Wood from GR: SE 28115 73840

Yorkshire's newest TUMP
Parking: there is room for one car at SE 27989 73920 at the start of the Bridleway. Alternatively, more verse parking at SE 28115 73840.
Whilst it doesn't state it on OS Maps this is actually MOD Land and training area. Area via from Bridleway with BW fence down at SE 27715 73821. Alternatively take the Bridleway and there is a man made gap in the fencing at SE 27098 73231. The wood is easy to walk through with plenty of tracks not marked on the OS Map.
Ther's a couple of alternative summit positions too. There is a mound a couple of metres high at SE 27423 73200 close to the latest Lidar position which my GPS indicated was higher than the DoBIH chosen summit position at SE 27451 73247. | ronaldo333 | 03/11/2022 |
From start of b/w at SE 27992 73929. Followed this along side of wood until gap in fence at SE 27447 73822 near MoD sign. Then followed GPS device through woodland, to summit area. Took reading about 10m off track, black metal drum on stand nearby. Minor bumps seemed to be debris from ditch next to track. | Aye Jimmy | 03/11/2022 |
