Of steep crag in open area but fallen trees obstructed scents. Monkey puzzle trees and great redwood s wel as pine | Denise | 04/02/2024 |
From the E, a bit of a path through trees and grass to the open grassland summit with lots of Monkey Puzzle, trees, sadly several blown over. High point unmarked at edge of steep crag. A little gorse and broom. Grey views, drizzle. | RichardM | 04/02/2024 |
With Luna, monkey puzzle trees on the summit, lots of fallen trees from storm Arwen | BigNick | 20/05/2022 |
After SH up the east side after the crags. | robertphillips | 20/02/2022 |
Verge parking at start of ROW to NW, then obvious narrow path winding up behind the crag. The fort ramparts are clearly evident underneath the emerging bracken and the araucarias are clearly thriving here - a charming spot. | milimana | 26/05/2021 |
From Blanefield used St Cuthbert way then picked up the ROW through the wood This lead NNW across the wood to the HP. Monkey puzzle trees self seeding popping up in any vacant ground also fair collection of different conifers in this wood | Andrew Simmons | 15/04/2021 |
From NE, room for a car 200m N of Blawearie. Forest road and path to cliffs S of the summit. Track/path up a break in the cliffs, 200m E of summit then through the bracken > Kyloe Hills Fort. Forest roads > Shepherdskirk Hill, easy climb up to the summit from the S. | JohnR | 18/11/2020 |
Found a thin path through deep bracken from a grown-over forestry road to the SE - leads to a hurdle over a fence. From there to the top was deep deep bracken, blackfly and nettles. | maknipe | 24/06/2020 |
Good parking at forest entry track due west of the summit. Good forest tracks all the way to the point where they meet the footpath. Follow the footpath, past the summit, until you see an obvious break in the cliff face on your left. A track follows this valley to the col then a bracken thrash to the top, | moorsman | 02/08/2019 |
Northumberland recompleted (4) | Dave Geere | 26/03/2019 |
From NE, mapped tracks a little gorsy higher up. Charming monkey puzzle summit in scattered gorse at clifftop. Northumberland recompleted again | RHW | 09/03/2019 |
After visit to new hill Chubden. From W, gate at NU 0352.3899. Tracks through wood, logging operations meant diversions. Tried to approach from S at weakness in the crag - but not in the gorse. So trail E until top of crag could be reached. Summit in bushes on cliff top. Returned W along top of crag using CG's route. | Aye Jimmy | 25/01/2019 |
I spotted this hill while looking for a route to Shepherdkirk Hill. Accepted by DoBIH as a new tump. I left the main RoW at NU 0470 3899 taking a path north which leads to a gate. Then turned right and followed the ridge picking my way round dense gorse. Views across to Lindisfarne are excellent. Last 100 metres is a bit awkward with an old stone wall topped by barbed wire to be crossed. High point is among some tatty broom bushes on the edge of the crag. | Crib Goch | 22/01/2019 |
