Parked at 51733 88208, along the lane by the side of the church to a gate with a fp signed both ways. Turn right and the motte is soon on your right. The fence is not too difficult but it appears to be in a private garden. Nobody appeared on my visit.clivevilla09/11/2023
parked by church and round grounds on FP to breach in fencegrumpy18/01/2023
1 of 3 starting in maltby and following paths down to Roche abbey then along ROW to this hill came through churchyard ands over fence. Got spotted by owners who politely escorted us outThe-Z-Man22/05/2022

Easy parking at church. An evening ascent via the ROW, by the light of a full moon.PGCE18/03/2022
Shame that this site of archaeological importance wasn't secured for official access as an attraction for the village rather being part of a posh garden. Unashamedly accessed from the west side.Nick Canute08/02/2022
Parked outside Church. Weakness in fence just to the West of hill very convenient.David Evans27/09/2021

Parked at church, would have done the church wall, as others, but caught the eye of the grass cutters who let me nip up the motte... nice chaps.jonglew03/06/2021
Definitely on private ground within the boundary of a house. Access does require a trespass. Can be accessed over the church wall, or, a tad easier, through a weakness in the fencing just off the footpath to the west. Probably safer jut to view from the church or path.moorsman15/12/2020
Via the churchyard wall. Motte has been well cropped on far side, presumably with long-armed hedge trimmer as it's quite steep.Aye Jimmy07/10/2020
Definitely in a private garden. The church wall access was not for me - could get in but probably not out as far side lower. Fencing from FP to west very secure. Only option was via the house itself at SK 5168 8818. No one in at time of visit but very friendly dog (no barking) welcomed some attention.carole engel11/09/2020
Wall behind church seemed path of least resistance, and even that had BWF on the other side. No evidence of any sigificant vegetation on the motte and area around was carefully mown - definitely had the feeling of being in someone's back garden.Wheelsy15/08/2020

From village down to valley and back up again. 2nd completion of Rotherham TumpsIanHHill30/06/2020
As per C S. Rotherham recompletion.Bramley25/06/2020
Least difficult route is probably over the churchyard wall. Bailey is covered in nettles and brambles but the top is achievable.Campbell Singer21/06/2020
Walked to rear of houses for easier access to mound.andrew brown06/06/2020
Via church (cut BM). Motte climbed from W side, mostly missing the brambles. c 8m high, quite a striking feature with pronounced moatRHW24/05/2020
Parked om Rotherham Lane and made circuit of churchyard and vicarage garden. As it was 11:30 am resisted temptation to hop over churchyard wall. Reasonably content that the natural high point at junction of footpaths is much the same height as the motte.GordonAdshead23/05/2020
Morning run, high point may be in fenced off areaholtsd16/05/2020
4th and final tump of the day and this re-completes Rotherham ua. 1st was Westgate Hill followed by Bank Top and Houghton Main Hill. Parked up in Laughton-en-le-Morthen and made a circuit to climb Castle hill on the return leg. Popped over cemetery wall to walk in mownn area before ascending steeply once picked a least vegetated route up. Back the same way to continue on the return route back to the car.Dazingdale16/05/2020
