1/11on the long return drive to our pet sit at Dartmouth from a 3 day trip to Liverpool for a hospital appt. Left L'pool at 5am - for a rush hour driving experience across Bristol from here to Durdham Down. Tail backs, traffic lights, parked cars, no parking, oneway loops, roadworks, busses, gridlock, school kids, pot holes, cyclists, pedestrians, bus lanes, signs, no signs, run down areas, affluent (Clifton) -city centre vibrant heart, and finally green spaces. Petrol and wee here at summit petrol station and a wander all around outside of compound, even behind the care home. All to recomplete a couple of low tally county tumps. Pleased that my little car exempt from air quality emission charge in city centre, although still a guilty feel.. I read that 50 modern cars today equate to the emission from a single 1970's car. | Chris Pearson | 28/02/2024 |
Very limited and tight parking in Castle Road, just to the South of the summit. | David Evans | 06/01/2023 |
Hill 1 of 4 of Bristol long distance run. Reached south gate on intersection of Castle and Tower Road. | matt98p | 19/09/2022 |
10 paces from car! | Bramley | 15/01/2022 |
Tower road castle road gateway into the waterworks yard appears high point that is accessible. Drove around compound. | cjo | 01/01/2022 |
Pointless, but had to be done... An extra 0.1m...🙄🙄🙄 | vegibagger | 14/08/2021 |
Gates of the depot good enough, looks like the site is now disused. | Swindon Bagger | 13/08/2021 |
As others, went as far as waterworks gate off Castle Road. | PGCE | 04/01/2021 |
As others. Sunday night visit (arriving just after midnight) to avoid Bristol's traffic. Fifth time I've completed South Glocuestershire and third time for the Bristol Avon. | Herbert Anchovy | 03/08/2020 |
Parked in Castle Road. | Campbell Singer | 22/07/2020 |
Why? | Barbara Singer | 22/07/2020 |
Parked at Tesco Extra fuel stn. Walked N along A4017 and into a large depot shared between a few companies including Bristol Water, it extends E behind the Tesco Extra. People about but no challenges. Difficult to say where the high point is. Then walked round to the Castle Rd entrance to water works compound and up to the gate. Possibly higher ground within, but whether natural or man-made difficult to say, head definitely above any high point though. | jonglew | 06/07/2020 |
As others: while traveling down to Somerset. | GordonAdshead | 06/07/2020 |
Agree S gate, off Castle Road, is only a stone’s throw from the summit. | Chris Peart | 05/07/2020 |
Frustrating Hill, got as far as I could from 3 directions. gate beyond gate from Castle road seemed highest. | PeterD | 01/07/2020 |
Level summit area, especially to E (Tesco Extra) and NE (main ENE gate, Bristol Water Kingswood Depot, ST 6462 7464: intercom, Lidar 114.7) where my head was above the Lidar HP c.1.4m above. Old maps show there was once a property there called The Castle inside fairly substantial grounds, so copse likely natural. One web source says: Underground reservoir and storage for pipes, bowsers and machinery. Entrance to NNE (Network Plus?) open to vehicles and got me close to hardstanding level on N side, at ST 6458 7469 (old clay pit, Lidar only 114m). S gate a bit lower; steep drop-off W side. Ticked as head over summit but would be good to make a proper visit if anyone makes arrangements :-) | RHW | 28/05/2020 |
