Parked in a newish looking car park (6-8 cars) at the end of the road in Hilton. Took the old quarry track to the SE and up the zig zags to Long Fell, then a trod to Tinside Rigg. A path off the NE ridge eventually gave us sight of an atv track leading N, then NW on the Little Fell plateau near to the trig and hp. It continued N from the W side of the latter, past the shelters (lunch) on Arnside Rake and right up to the large cairn on Mickle Fell. The hp is just beyond. Returning to Arnside Rake we hacked across to Swarth Beck and picked up the (faint at first) path over the watershed and down into Scordale and eventually the track alongside Scordale Beck back to Hilton in the dark. A long day in the showers and low cloud and extremely wet underfoot. The upper Scordale valley worth another visit in better weather. Walk was on a Warcop public access day. With Frances. From Hilton, passed along the front of Roman Fell and then climbed with a good track almost to the summit of Long Fell. A rather unremarkable top and Im happy it is ticked off the list.Donpeblo28/05/2023
From the parking area in Murton for a Thirteen mile walk to the summit's of Murton fell, Little fell, Tinside rigg, Long fell and Roman fell. Returning via Hilton in Six and half hours.WAYNE ROWLETT08/04/2023
On a Warcop public access day. Parked at Murton and walked clockwise around a circular course picking up 3 as yet unclimbed Nuttalls and my last English Dewey. Once on the Warcop estate I only saw a farmer with his sheep, oh, and one bit of ammo hanging on a fence. I visited Murton Pike, Murton Fell (summit and B+L top), Little Fell (summit and the sadly damaged trig), Tinside Rigg, Long Fell, and Roman Fell (my final English Dewey). Altogether nearly 24km with 880m ascent taking me 7h 30m.silveracorn_alan04/03/2023
Post work ascent with the Boo. Best view so far from the A66 fells.Alphaville19901/09/2022
Pleasant circuit from the Durham / Cumbria boundary on the B6276, taking in Long Fell, Tinside Rigg, Little Fell and Mickle Fell. Glad I took the advice to head north off Little Fell as I came across a wide track which took me easily to Mickle Fell avoiding the bogfest that the direct route would have delivered.oldbagger2707/08/2022
Round of Long Fell, Tinside Rigg, Little Fell and Mickle Fell and a long trudge back along footpath alongside Swarth Beck and finally along Scordale back to Hilton.Longwojo07/08/2022

Guided walk: Hilton > East Moor > Long Fell > Tinside Rigg > Scott Howe > Little Fell (Trig. Point) > Little Fell (Summit) > Scordale Head > Scordale > Hilton.Winterfloodian11/07/2021
Weekend day so no firing. Round of Long Fell, Tinside Rigg and Roman Fell. Warnings about lasers and a lady fell runner running holding a big branch over her head because she had been mobbed several times by a buzzard and she asked me to stay put for a while in case it happened again. It didn't but it was all a bit surreal.clivevilla06/06/2021
From Hilton to Long Fell, Tinside Rigg - via the shell case summit and the second intermediary top - and Roman Fell via the MoD's zigzag track and a descend around the Northern Crags of Roman Fell into beautiful Swindale and Scordale.Nick Down130/05/2021

A day of plausible denial. From Hilton. Conflicting MoD indicators MoD flags not flying, lights not lit, barriers down. Along waymarked track SE to plantation, then up track to Long Fell mines; gunfire below. Up Roman Fell from col at NY761200, purgatorial veg; on to Tinside Rigg, tough veg. Bit of a path just before and after bridleway from Christy Bank, then ATV track to Little Fell. Corroded unexploded ordnance aplenty. From Little Fell a promising ATV track was abandoned several times as it kept veering off rather than going direct to Scorsdale Head, from which an ATV track sidles up SW along line of white posts to S top of Murton Fell, then its ruffntuff N to the summit of Murton Fell. Ruffntuff down to the mapped PF at the shelters. Down at the Murton CP, MoD display board says the area is off limits 6.5 days a week (access only after 13:00 on Sundays), with access to Little Fell only in escorted groups in July; there is no similar display board at Hilton hence PDIsbjorn25/08/2020

Hilton - Roman Fell - Long Fell - Tinside Rigg - Little Fell - Mickle Fell - Murton Fell - Scordale - Hilton. Cloud just started to break on this one giving tantalising hints of the views but closed back up again on the hike to Little FellGary Heath13/07/2019
Sweaty, shirtless early morning ascent after bivvying the night near Charlie High, arriving there 2 hours before the non-firing day started. Next am followed footpath and fence but then climbed steeply up onto Roman Fell by mistake. Great views & saw lots of scattered ordnance but no people.signyred25/05/2019
From public CP in Murton. Murton Pike -> the 2 Murton Fells -> Little Fell -> Tinside Rigg -> Long Fell -> Roman Fell. Pleasant 19k round in deep snow on a non-firing day.jonglew02/02/2019

ACW circuit from Hilton. Roman Fell, Long Fell, Tinside Rigg & Little Fell, then W into Scordale valley. Very quiet on fells, did not see anyone else - quite a pleasant walk, with good views. (13km,600m).ger25/08/2018

Warm and sunny morning for the walk up from Hilton using the long and winding track. Then onto Tinside Rigg before heading back to Roman Fell which I descended NE down to Swindle Beck.Dugswell206/05/2018
Murton Fell - Mickle Fell - Little Fell - Long Fell - Tinside Rigg.tomd405/05/2018
Foggy and drizzly but top apparently marked by piece of thick splayed metal, presumably of military origin, stuck in rough grass. Only piece of ammo seen on whole walk. Barites outcrop/mines and limestone pavements nearby. Continued to RomanDenise 01/01/2018
From Tinside in mist which cleared partially by the time I reached the summit. Descent to Swindale and back to Hilton. Last of the English Nuttals - unless they find any more!MichaelF20/10/2017
Well I finished the English Nuttalls on Birks Fell and then I finished them again on Thack Moor. So this my third finish of them on Long Fell. Please if you see any people with equipment measuring hills please tell them politely to go away. I am getting too old to keep finishing these Nuttalls. Attacked this one from Tinsidejohnjennison08/07/2017
Easy walk up Swindale Edge, which was unbelievably well signposted. Left the public ROW at GR 7776 2001. Pretty cloudy on top of Tinside Rigg. Easy jaunt over to Long Fell where I was disconcerted to see a pickup truck parked nearby! Had a little explore of the mines and then picked up the track down. Managed to resist Roman fell which looked very tempting. Lots of shooting and exercises could be seen and heard away in the distance at Warcop base itself which kept me entertained, not that I needed it as the views were good.tsharp07/07/2017

Climbed Long Fell and Tinside Rigg by the bridleway from Hilton on a Sunday Afternoon. Perfect weather and superb views towards Blencathra. No problems following bridleway with posts.BURGESS04/06/2017

Walked on my own from Hilton along Swindale Edge and Christy Bank then over Tinside Rigg, Long Fell and Roman Fell. Dry and pleasant. A bit breezy but the wind wasn't cold so it was fine. The walk up Swindale Edge is great, clear makers all the way. Make sure you check the access days for this fell as it is on Warcop MOD land.flockwatcher30/04/2017
From Hilton Village NY 73537 20761, via Christy Bank Bridle Path and Tinside Rigg Returned by same route.Westdenewalker29/04/2017
From Hilton w Jenx, free CP. Took the lane at first under Roman Fell and then a Quad track up the broad NW ridge, steepest towards top. Then in mist and on compass to Long Fell and Tinside Rigg. Great decent down the Bridleway and Swindale Beck and then the sublime Scordale.nordicstar08/01/2017
A nice little circuit. Interesting area.jenx08/01/2017
Parked on roadside to Town End leaving Hilton to PROW down Lane End.Followed PROW to the SW as long as was evident on ground then picked up track slightly to the north following it all way to gate with signs for Explosive Hazard & No Unauthorized Person Beyond This Point. Turned right uphill here following fence then contouring round Roman Fell at top of fence until Long Fell and Tinside Rigg came in to view. Visited Long Fell summit and 622m spot height before going on to Tinside Rigg. Descended down PROW along Swindale Beck then turning left on PROW along Scordale Beck to Hilton.mntainman05/01/2017
From Hilton out to Swindale Beck then well up row before cutting back to Roman Fell. Followed broad ridge back and over Long Fell and Tinside Rigg (English Nuttalls finished again)! Decided might as well break all the rules and did Little Fell again via the trig point. Great walk and didn't see a single bit of munitions.SS31/12/2016
