Good track from Chapeltown then hard slog up deep heather. | govanah | 13/10/2023 |
A bike round from glenbuchat lodge 4 of 6 | robertphillips | 20/08/2023 |
From the Eskemulloch CP, along the track to the (worth a stop) Scalan Seminary and farm buildings and then Clash of Scalan. An ATV route leads SSE along a line of shooting butts then a narrow path to a couple of large cairns above. Followed the fence as it rises to N of Carn Liath, taking in the top before doubling back and on to Monadh an t-Sluichd Leith then to Carn Mor. Over the hags to Dun Muir and Little Geal Charn, followed by more hags (thankfully hard snow filled) to Letterach. Plenty of daylight left so we took in Carn na Glascoill, from where a stony track heads down to the River Livet and a larger track to Ladderfoot, and finally, Chapeltown, grabbing Tom a Voan for good measure. 6.5hrs. | summitter | 12/02/2023 |
3 of 5: From Finlate Hill. Careful not to stand on hundreds of frogs on the track towards The Ladder. Poor path continued to The Ladder: cairns. Short diversion to the stone on Dun Muir then back to Meikle Geal Charn. Then peat hags to the featureless HP. With Karen. | ChrisR | 26/03/2022 |
From Glenbuchat | Gonk | 27/05/2021 |
A beautiful day to climb the hill with no name. Letterach is almost certainly not its name but the Glenbuchat gamekeepers don't know either. Their unofficial name is Caochan Hill. From the forestry car park by Glenbuchat lodge, track W over Broom Knowe, down to Littleglen Burn, up to join Ladder path, easiest off piste given that the path is sh1te on the E side. Up the lovely tundra mapped as Meikle Geal Charn, then all sorts of hags and bogs to the top. Not the most haggy hill - that accolade belongs to Kinder Scout. These hags are firm and friendly with grassy bits in the bottom. Summit unclear in bogs. Back to MGC, then nastier hags E to the bealach followed by lovely easy tundra up to Little Geal Charn (3rd visit). Easy walk down the track to the Cacherlicyme burn and back to Glenbuchat Lodge. | Gill | 01/04/2021 |
#3 of 4, plenty peat hags, P E of Glenbuchat | RHW | 27/12/2019 |
Parked at Eskemulloch then climbed up along Ladder Burn. | 187lenny | 14/04/2019 |
Ascended by the Ladder Burn first to Little Geal Carn and then back on to Letterach. Followed a green tongue up and then peaty offshoots. Conditions dry and sunny, which made progress straightforward. Saw no cairn on the extensive flat summit, but several hares. There is a cairn on the rim overlooking the Ladder Burn, but this is not the highest point. It did mark the start of a pleasant descent to Ladderfoot and back to Chapeltown. | JohnW | 05/06/2018 |
From track junction SW of Rhinstacks accessed via Firs Cottage. Low cloud pretty much all day made route finding an issue. Left turn above Rhinstacks not obvious but other otherwise an easy route to Moss Hill. Did not find the E-W path shown on map before Little Geal Charn but did find summit. Route on to Letterach not obvious in cloud and wandered around a bit. Did get there but actual summit not clear on a flat summit area. Continued past top until it started to descend and then picked up 'high' points on way back. Dropped west off 'ridge' too early, worked my way back to col NE of Dun Muir where I could see no evidence of the two cross paths shown on map - still in cloud. Not sure where I was I decided to call it a day and headed SE to pick up tracks. When I did and confirmed where I was I decided I still had time for three more tops so pushed on to Finlate Hill, The Socach, Dubh Breac Hill and N to the track back to the car. Despite cloud a pleasant enough day. | dickscroop | 22/08/2017 |
