Parked at Long Slack Gate then across Fleet Moss using the woollen bags to cross the bogs. Along the edge then cut across the moorland disturbing lots of grouse and climbing a high ds wall to summit which was found with GPS. Looked at Jeffrey Pot then back across the Moss spotting a rabbit and disturbing a group of shorted eared owls. Not a classic walk but worthwhile in the sunshine. Solo.John Eley03/08/2023
From Oughtershaw, over Cam Rakes and up to Cam High Road. Contoured to main road and descended to sharp bend. Up initially rough wallside to gate. Stayed south west of fence along good sheep path to gate below Woldside, and then followed diagonal rising wall to plateau. Wandered over a few high spots, tussock near small cairn seems highest. Descended straight down wall to road, gates all the way.Flatfield02/04/2023
Across Fleet Moss. With R and B.jenx20/02/2023
From Long Slack Gate (SD 8602 8385). Took a direct line over some bad ground, if wet this route would be very wet.jonglew02/09/2022
Parked to NE at viewing point. Took a fairly direct line across the peat bog. I hope all the peatbog renovation work proves worth all the effort: the tracked vehicles have created a bit of a mess in the meantime.PGCE17/03/2022
Up past the water treatment works at Oughtershaw, through various gates to the summit. A little pile of stones may be the high point.NormanW07/09/2021
From viewpoint, SD860838, in middle of heatwave, hence fairly dry across Fleet Moss. Looks like someone is trying to dry out the bog and to create 'natural' bridges across the peat hags using natural fibrous matter, to provide a straight forward through route. Stakes and white poles don't help - just look for the new 'natural bridges' - they're hard to spot until you get used to what to look for (1x1 metre square grassy mounds raised just very slightly above the top level of the hags).Isbjorn22/07/2021
up the road from Oughtershaw, then into the access land and more or less straight up to the summit.IanHHill22/06/2021
From the viewpoint car park at SD 86011 83835. The ongoing water retention scheme is highly effective, and crossing Fleet Moss is now a route-finding puzzle to avoid new pools and water-filled troughs between the peat hags. Wellies advisable. Eventually reached a wall, where I found a way to climb over without damaging it at SD 87370 83268. Then the going was much easier, visiting both tops. Returned much the same way, but further south. It was just as bad going. Solo. 5km, with 100m of ascent.Man of Kernow107/05/2021
Parked up at the good parking spot at BNG 86018 83845. Looked across the moss and thought it's dry and it was. Well mainly dry. Large amount of work going on on the Moss. Piles of wood, stacks of sacks filled with cut heather? and net cylinders of straw? about 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter all over the moss. Not sure what its all about but it looks like the work will retain moisture in the Moss after rain. Crossing it could become fun. Tried following the old fence line but it looks like a lot of the stakes have been taken out for much of the way. Ended up south of the fence line. Gained access to Woldside through a break in the wall, a few metres after the gate at NGR 87400 93321 and then onto the possible summit (not convinced the BGR given is correct). Return much the same way as the way out but a little further north. A bit easier this way.MikeM26/04/2021
A circuit of the top of Wharfedale, bagging the two Deweys of Cam Rakes and Woldside. I parked in the quarry to the south of Oughtershaw (SD 875 807) and followed the Dales Way through the village and on to Swarthgill. There turned south through the field and across the footbridge (SD 847 822) and up Oughtershaw Moss on the west side of Long Gill to the top of ridge. Followed the ridge west visiting both the trig and HP of Cam Rakes. Continued by the wall to enter the forest by a ride at SD 831 806, easy access over BWF and on ride to the forest road. The road allowed easy passage through the forest and up to Cam High Road. East along it, turning right at junction with the through road to reach the viewpoint. Then across Fleet Moss making use of the caterpillar track as much as possible to ease passage, and up to Woldside. Descended direct down easy slope to Oughtershaw Road. 21.7km with 530m ascent in 5h50m. (S)silveracorn_alan02/04/2021
From Buckden for a round of Birks Fell,Horse Head Moor, Woldside and Yockenthwaite Moor.rhalstead18/09/2020
From the bend in the Oughtershaw road where there is a small plantation in between Chaldron gill and Hazle bank gill. Followed wall up the hill no ROW to just west of summit and hoped over the only wall barring your progress this wall is not the best example of a dry stone wall so care is needed not to damage it, one hour for a little under two miles.WAYNE ROWLETT06/07/2020

From the view point, following the wall. Trudge back across Fleet Moss. Very hot, no shade. With Colin.Andrew Pearson25/07/2019
From the west. There is a path by the boundary fence which is useful for a while. Visited both tops.clivevilla26/04/2019
Start 17:00 Long Slack Gate. Thought it would be good to do this walk after a dry spell and got across Fleet Moss with dry feet. On to Yockenthwaite Moor.Wycombe Wanderer28/05/2018
From minor road then across Fleet Moss. Nice and dry. Half an hour there, half an hour visiting all the bumps and humps then half an hour back.Alan Caine24/05/2018

Woldside > Cragdale Moor from GR: SD 85990 83782 Fleet Moss. Done when ground frozen, would be much harder going normally.ronaldo33325/02/2018
Viewpoint parking area at 860838 - Down by side of wall, through gate & alongside fence for about 170yd to former fence junction - Over fence & followed remains of rotting boundary fence posts across a relatively dry Fleet Moss to wall corner at 874833 - Over wall & up to summit & alternative summit mound. (S)gerrybowes03/06/2017
Parked by the cattle grid on the road through Wharfedale. Up by the fence to the gate, along to the wall junction, across the wall via a collapsed section, and over various possible highpoints on either side of the wall bordering the summit field.Nick Down101/06/2017
Good parking at the viewpoint. Go through the new gate and follow the old fence. Rough going at first but this fence reaches a wall and then it is decent walking against it. One wall to negotiate. Wandered around to find potential summits. Solo and 75 minute return.bolton24/05/2017
Started at viewpoint and headed for fence to north alongside grouse butts.Pretty boggy at first, once fence was reached OK then followed it round.dgresty03/05/2017
From old quarry south of Oughtershaw, went up hill by water treatment plant (one gate, no walls) to reach Woldside's undulating top. Dropped straight to road then took row to make ridge of Cam Rakes (slog along that). Decided to go through trees to forestry track - went really well down firebreak with only a couple of fallen trees. Just before bend, another line moves off towards Oughtershaw and is good almost to the fence line. Definitely easier (in descent) than the ridge.SS17/04/2017

From the road at Fleet Moss. After going through the gate I used the fence/wall as a handrail to avoid the wet ground. Only the first 700m from the gate was wet, after this point the gaps in the fence allowed me to switch to the northern side.JohnStoneham23/08/2015
With Jo, from Fleet Moss Pass: followed fence over Fleet Moss Edge onto Woldside (spot height plus various other humps including DG’s). Weather; generally cloudy, cool breeze, good visibility.amblerbob09/07/2015
From road at Fleet Moss with Alf. Des would be annoyed to hear that the bogs were dry!mick23/06/2015
Good car park to NNW. Horrible route. Hags, bog and gullies to cross. No path. Must be even worse if wet. Last 200m after the wall pleasant. Only saving grace was that the summit was not covered in mid Wales spruce.destaylor25/09/2014
Parked at the viewpoint then walked over Fleet Moss which was fine after this dry summer. Visited a number of likely high spots on a lovely sunny day.Dugswell221/07/2014
We parked close to the bend and cattle grid, followed the gill up before climbing again to the summit, sunny morning, great views with Graham and Ruben.karencooke08/09/2013

Hubberholme - Yockenthwaite Moor - High Pasture - Woldside - Oughtershaw - Beckermonds - Hubberholme via Dales Way. Clear skies. Great views. Crusty but soft snow made some sections quite hard.PaulH05/04/2012

From sharp bend and bridge on road to SW. Followed gill to moor then further rise to summit area. A few stones on bump mark the summit given by GR, but there are other spots that look higher.Aye Jimmy06/11/2011
