From Cowling, with Ted. Lovely sunny day,,, | Jim T | 24/03/2024 |
From Wycoller CP ... up the Pendle Way then ROWs to the heathery Combe Hill, eventually finding a minor path through it by the fence line to Little Wolf Stones. Back down to the road and along Bronte Way until north of Lad Law. An ATV route goes up to the broad ridge, petering into a narrow path to the summit Trig and boulder. Returned via various ROWs back to Wycoller CP. | summitter | 02/12/2023 |
From small layby just before the bend and road junction to the SE. Along the road and up the ROW past Slippery Stones Farm to join the long distance path at a stile (SD9822 3849). Short detour off the path to the summit. Continued on to the NE high point. | LizH | 17/11/2023 |
Came up Pennine Way from reservoir. Visited trig, summit and county tri-point | Phil2997 | 30/09/2023 |
With Sarah and Abby on a chunk of the Pennine Way. | HardenC | 17/12/2022 |
A pleasant evening walk from near the Pendle Atom to watch the sunset. Solo. | meltdiceburg | 05/09/2022 |
Parked at Atom Panoptican. Tried to follow path shown on 1:25000 map that leaves road at 948390. This does not exist on the ground. So flogged through tussocky grass and heather on to Combe Hill where there was ATV track on far side of fence. | KeithByTheC | 17/08/2022 |
From parking to the west, along the road and then up the track. Quite boggy even after quite a dry spell, easy doable in just over an hour 6km | Nicky C | 16/04/2022 |
Diversion off Pennine Way. Visited summit and trig. Also visited point 900m NE (Maw Stones Hill) just in case the summit gets moved. | PGCE | 10/04/2022 |
Parked at 97930 37892, up the drive of Slippery Stones Farm and beyond to the PW. | clivevilla | 11/03/2022 |

A circular from Hare Hill Edge | MountainTerrier | 24/04/2021 |
Early frosty start - Parked at Stake Hill Car park - VisitedWainmans Pinnicale and Lund's Tower first then across the moor to the Hitching Stone (largest boulder in Yorkshire) - Smallden Head - Shooting Box - Slitheroford - Morkin Bridge - Higher Intake (as the snow falls) - Keighley Moor Reservoir - Crumber Hill - The Sea - Little Wolf Stones - Return similar way but via The New Allotment. Dark on return Saturn and Jupiter visible under a clear dark cold sky. | briandavies | 24/12/2020 |
From parking to West mainly on open moor. | rhalstead | 25/06/2020 |
From Lund Tower, via wainmans pinnacle, hitching stone, mawstones to summit. Return same way. Path between hitching stone and mawstones is lost to these eyes so involved a slog through heather. Relatively dry so not really an issue, but best avoided when wet. | Longwojo | 14/06/2020 |
Parked at lay by west of Combe House. Followed sunken track which eventually fades. Nice and dry underfoot due to the warmest May on record. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 02/06/2020 |
Hard work spongy tussocky exercise walk from km to the west. Parents wedding anniversary. Poignant since dads death five years back. Nice to think of him, and him introducing me to the hills and Munros of Deeside. | vegibagger | 21/04/2020 |
Small layby west of road junction. 75 minute return through Slippery Stones Farm, Pennine Way then across rougher stuff to the top. Solo. Rained as well. | bolton | 10/03/2020 |

Straight up here after an enjoyable stay at YHA Haworth. Also visited the eastern top just to be sure. | Alex C | 12/10/2019 |
As jonglew, parked in the small layby 30m W. of junction at 9791 3789 - E. along narrow road for 200m & then up track/RoW past Slippery Stones Farm (friendly farmer) to join Pennine Way by rickety old stile/fencing in wall corner at 982385 - Up Pennine Way to The Sea (a pool!) & then path, faint in places, over rough grass to the trig point & unmarked summit. (S) | gerrybowes | 05/10/2019 |
Solo. Parked in small lay-by near the junction of Crag Bottom Rd & New Laithe Rd (SD 97943 37907). Then E along Crag Bottom Rd to Pennine Way at Crag Nook Farm. Along P.W. to two small ponds (“The Sea” on O.S. map!). From here an indistinct track leads to summit. | ADT | 02/08/2019 |
Parked to the South East in lay-by SD979378. | David Evans | 13/07/2019 |
From Combe Hill Cross up shooters track over Combe Hill. After Great Nick the track peters out but faint path continues beside fence to Great Wolf Stones. At this point just short of where fence bends to SE there is the remains of a tiny broken stile. Top two wires can be disconnected at this (2ft between posts) point to allow easy stride over to faint path to trig column at summit.
Good views f Pendle and Boulsworth, Ingleborough and Penyghent to north and even Ferrybridge Power Station a long way away to the SE. | Nick Caunt | 22/03/2019 |
From parking area at se006381 on Hare Hill Edge, along Millennium Way - Pennine Way, longer walk but better parking place. | BLACKHILL | 19/02/2019 |
From the south along Penine way then across moor to trig. Parked east of start on bend, room for 1 car tucked in. | mart0797 | 31/01/2019 |
Layby good for 2-3 cars at SD 9791 3789. Took RoW up through Two Laws Farm to meet PW. Ground a bit tussocky but ok on leaving PW for last 3-400m. | jonglew | 10/01/2019 |
On minor road to south and up PW with Jenx and Bryher. Parking at bend in road on bridge not recommended. 100m further East of PW track room for one car to tuck in at old gateway. PW good, easy going and short diversion to top. High point could be any of lumps and bumps around the trig. | nordicstar | 10/01/2019 |
Nice walking on Pennine Way from south. Mist cleared as we descended. | jenx | 10/01/2019 |
From SD979378. | summitsup | 09/12/2018 |
The ATV track is not on the map so made the same unnecessary slog from the parking spot as Denise. Mind you the road is a lot busier than I anticipated | peebs | 29/10/2018 |

From the SE along PW, which was easy going underfoot. As PW beared off north kept in straight line for the trig. Found stile across fence and HP near trig. | PeterD | 12/05/2018 |
Visited on Day 4 of the Pennine Way, walking from Calderdale to Ickornshaw with Eric and Geoff. 27km with 960m ascent in 7h45m. | silveracorn_alan | 19/04/2018 |
Parked at the 'P' on OS map at SD 948390 to the SW and attempted to follow the path marked. Although there is a gate and a RoW sign the path appeared non existent to us and the ground was very hard-going- rough tussocks, luckily frozen. It did ease as we ascended, with more heather and moss. We found a track on top of Combe Hill which we followed NE then East to Great Wolf Stones- outcrop. Then we crossed the fence NE on a faint path for short thrash through heather to the summit Trig. We decided the HP was an outcropping rock 10 p NW. We did not continue NE to Mawstones Hill, across the Pennine Way, which is marked as 1m lower- terrain looked hard! On descent we followed the track to back to Combe Hill and then SW across Onion bank and then South to Combe Hill Cross (
remains of ) marked on 1:25 map. This track is excellent- would be the preferred route if not on the PW. It joins the road at SD 955386 by a house called Combe Cross, near sign saying Welcome to Langshawbridge (and no | Denise | 25/02/2018 |
From rubbish filled layby at SD 9479,3898. Rough going ENE over luckily frozen moorland until reaching good ATV track on SE side of wire fence. Moorland summit with trig pillar and a few gritstone outcrops. Large expanse of similar height moorland to the NE. Followed the good ATV track back to road arriving at the gate opposite the 'No Parking' sign beside Combe Cross House. | RichardM | 25/02/2018 |
Up the PW from the SE. | Chris Peart | 19/10/2017 |
On P Way in 2011 just walked past it, it seems. Went back today after first climbing Round Hill near Top Withens, which I'd also bypassed the same day.back. | IanHHill | 18/04/2017 |
2nd hill of 4 today on a route from Haworth to Oakworth visiting the the Brontë waterfalls, Top Withens, Withins Heights plus boundary then across the moor to the Alcomden stones, over Middle Moor hill, Delph quarry, over Watersheddles Eastern end Ne then loosely following boundary stones, becoming increasingly boggier but eventually arrived and explored environs stepping on nearest stones. Descent NE over Pennine way (with boulder stating 'PW') continuing over Brown Edge and Keighley Moor to Breck hill bottom. Next hill: Steeton moor. | Dazingdale | 19/03/2017 |
4/4 Two in snow and Two without (Fountains Fell/Fountains Fell South Top/Pinshaw Beacon/Little Wolf Stones) | Fergalh | 29/01/2017 |
Space for 2 or possibly even 3 cars on the bend now in what seems to be a proper layby, no signs saying not to park. Muddy walk up following the Pennine Way, fence at the top has been half trampled down so easy to step over. | the_adam | 23/12/2016 |
With K and R. Path from West shown on OS no longer exists. Best route is pennine way from south although last part is haggy bog with a low fence to climb. Great view. | Ashley | 14/08/2016 |
Solo | simon and co | 24/05/2016 |
Spine Race 2016 - Pennine Way | RichCranswick | 10/01/2016 |
Tricky parking on the lane on the south side of the hill - room for one car, well tucked-in, on the sharp bend at SD 977 380. Took Pennine Way NW onto the moor, diverting onto a faint path where the Pennine Way bends NE. Followed this up over a broken fence and so to summit. Returned the same way. | Man of Kernow1 | 23/11/2014 |
443m | The Grouse | 31/08/2014 |
