Parked in the car park N of Eller Beck Bridge. Followed paths to the summit (one very boggy section). Tumulus 20m S of the trig point is higher, but man made so perhaps not summit? | LizH | 06/09/2023 |
Visited Stony Leas (Louven Howe) and Brow Moor on Day 18 of our C2C hike. With Annette, Christine, Eric, Geoff, and Steve. Today's section from Ellerbeck was 15km with 300m ascent, taking us 4.5 hours. | silveracorn_alan | 15/06/2023 |
From the car park NW of Eller Beck Bridge. First along the A169 then across a, thankfully largely dry, FP. | summitter | 20/02/2023 |
11:30, 13 degrees, sunny spells, light north-easterlies. Bridleway and track from Eller Beck Bridge. | Wycombe Wanderer | 18/10/2022 |
Parked at 85811 98275, along the track which becomes a sometimes boggy path but marked with high white posts which eventually gets to a track which leads close to the summit. About 45 minutes each way. | clivevilla | 13/03/2022 |
Parked by end of Goathland road on A169; walked via Ellerbeck Bridge. With K | IanHHill | 01/03/2022 |
From Old May Beck CP easy walk on good forest tracks and out to Lilla Cross | grumpy | 12/01/2022 |
From Eller Beck bridge; quite soggy underfoot but lovely clear air. Radar at RAF Fylingdales really is a bit sinister | Rockdoctor | 09/01/2022 |
Circumnavigation of the greater Newton House plantation forest from car park to the west. Falling Foss worth a detour | richard69 | 03/01/2022 |
2 of 3 on 12.75 mile walk starting in the car park in littlebeck. After flyingdales moor following the robin hoods bay path | The-Z-Man | 03/10/2021 |

From carpark near Eller Beck Bridge. Bit hairy making along side the road to the bridge where track beginnings. Easy, gently sloping path. Only real challenge about a million flying ants. Visited Lilla Cross first - reputedly the oldest christian memorial in northern England. The giant Flyingdales monolith the only feature on impressively big sky landscape. With Geraldine | Pete West | 20/08/2021 |
The first of 3 hills in the Fylingdales area. From Ellerbeck Bridge, parking near gate to Fen Bog NR, on path that was track to RAF installations at its start and end. More popular paths on ridge. We walked to Lilla Cross from the HP, a fascinating addition before returning to Ellerbeck Bridge. Lots of male Emperor moths flying about furiously- finding the wings of one that had been preyed confirmed their i/d. With Pete. | pwheeler | 07/06/2021 |

Lovely walk up from car park near Falling Foss tea room, up to Old May Beck then Ann's Cross the Aux and then trigpoint. Great day out with tea to finish at the tea room. | thejackrustles | 29/04/2019 |
With G. May New Beck > Flyingdales Moor > Stony Leas - Louven Howe > May New Beck | RT1970 | 23/03/2019 |
From A169 at Eller Beck Bridge with a couple of inches of new snow on the ground. A grey day with low cloud/mist. Couldn't even see RAF Fylingdales. Followed a set of footprints to the track junction just short of point 292. There were more footprints and cycle tracks here but I saw no-one. Up to the trig and adjacent bump. Back the same way. | Clach Liath | 20/01/2019 |
HEMA activation (Humps excluding Marilyns, Amateur Radio). Warm day, the path from Ella Beck parking indistinct in some areas.. Follow the M.O.D. white marker poles. A bit of bog hopping needed in places! | G0DEB559 | 23/06/2018 |
Diversion off reverse Lyke Wake (from Ravenscar to Fylingdales) | paulcook2809 | 19/05/2018 |
Parked in wide entrance to bridleway at Eller Beck Bridge - Followed bridleway, boggy in places, to vehicle track at 882985. After about 1km the bridleway is waymarked with 6ft high white posts - Along vehicle track to junction & then N. along vehicle track to trig point & Louven Howe, the tumulus 20m S. of trig point. The tumulus, topped with a boundary stone, is significantly higher than the trig point. (S) | gerrybowes | 27/04/2018 |
From roadside car park (NZ 8521 0286), 11.5km + 2hrs15 + incessant rain + waterlogged track = almost soul destroying. But all made good by a pair of trig pillars. | jonglew | 12/03/2018 |
In sleet from May Beck. Watershed completion. | peebs | 01/02/2018 |
From May Beck. The last Hump in Sect 37 | thenomad | 02/11/2017 |
With Jenx and Bryher, parked at Eller Bridge and took the soggy farmers track out up the beck. AFter the overnight rain the becks were in spate and crossing for little Eller beck was thoughtful. Glad we found the spot as on way back the burn was higher still and we waded the safe section found. Track up the hill was pretty wet and desperate. It can be noted that another higher track can be taken a little further up from the white posts at GR96949 98236, this allows the hard track to be reached more easily which in turn gets to the gate below the trig and near Lilla Cross | nordicstar | 11/09/2017 |
A good wet walk across the moors after heavy rain overnight. | jenx | 11/09/2017 |
with Joska de Langen and sister Jente | vegibagger | 16/08/2017 |
With K. Trudge through light rain. Is nearby cross at Lilla Howe a Christianised standing stone? Weathering near top may support that idea. Lilla could be corruption of Welsh Llia? | Ashley | 19/03/2017 |
1/3 First of three on very wet windy sleet day (Stony Heas/Barns Cliff Edge/Urra Moor) | Fergalh | 12/02/2017 |
Very boggy track | nicolajane | 16/11/2016 |
From Eller Beck bridge on very hot day.Follow track/path on left side of fence to three-fingered signpost then easily up clear bridleway.Only a few boggy bits. With Oscar. | catman | 13/09/2016 |

Mrs Anchovy deposited me at the CP at NZ855026 and ten miles later I was picked up from Robin Hood's Bay having visited Stony Leas and Fylingdales Moor (Shooting House Rigg). Cold, grey day. | Herbert Anchovy | 01/04/2016 |
Out and back from Eller Beck where car park closed for constructions works at moment. Followed white posts thru marshy ground up. Returned a good distance on bridleway that heads for 'Official Secret Act' boundary then chickened out. Not sure that this could connect to Permissive Path thru gate at SE865983. | Eddie | 30/03/2016 |
With Jo, circular walk from road opposite Whinstone Ridge cp (cp being used at moment for storing road materials): Sleights Moor then NW to trig, then moor and tracks eastwards to Littlebeck, then onto Fylingdales Moor, then turning south on track to Stony Leas Louven Howe (top and 2 trigs), before returning NW along deep rutted wet track to car. Weather; sunny, mild, moderate visibility. | amblerbob | 13/03/2016 |
With Clare, Eire, Evan,Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 25/10/2015 |
Parking available at Ellerbeck Bridge along the access track to Fen Bogs. Then a walk along a newly created bridleway up towards Lilla Cross. This is dry and easy to follow if you track the white marker posts. After passing through a gate onto a chalk road turn left. This leads directly to the summit. Just under 2 hours return trip. | moorsman | 31/07/2014 |
Walk up from Eller Beck. Trig not on highest point. MOD column now quite battered. | arranc | 20/04/2014 |
With Bev. Up from the main Pickering to Whitby road. Very wet under foot. | simon and co | 24/01/2014 |

From May Beck car park. Up to John Cross, then along to Louven Howe. Return along permissive path through Newton House Plantation. With Natalie and Jessica. Hot and sunny. | PaulH | 15/07/2013 |
From May Beck car park via Fylingdales Moor (Tump!). Returned thru forest direct. | citygent | 11/09/2012 |
Really a trig pillar bag on t:uk. Nice to find in August 2013 that this was also a Hump bag. Normally I find Marilyn bags give a bonus trig, nice to be the other way round for a change. | KevPalmer | 03/09/2012 |
This felt longer on the ground from the car park on the way to Goathland than it looked on the map. Followed the track under the pylons, round the woods, and up to the Howes. Went across to Lilla cross thinking it might be the summit - oh well... | DanHolme | 29/08/2012 |
Walked up from Old May beck along non-existent to very boggy paths up to the double trig on top and walked back down into the forest leaving the moors early because of the state of them. | DanTrig | 28/08/2011 |
About 4km walk from Ellerbeck with deep heather and bog in places, and Big Brother's probably watching you. Saw an adder and slow worm. | Aye Jimmy | 20/08/2011 |
