Parked in Longtown- plenty of spaces opposite castle and further down (SO 32401 28786). Did an anticlockwise route, heading south towards farm shop and then taking the footpath east and across the river. Very steep paths and tracks, then turning to head north along the ridge. Area around trig was very boggy and wet making access difficult. Went down northwards to the road and then followed it back.Droplet749426/03/2024
En route to visiting Longtown castle. Limited parking nr road junc north of hill. Trig hiding next to hedge. Great views, very clear day.Nick Canute01/04/2022
Parked on lane near T-junction where footpath leads off to the summit. Stiles in poor condition as is often the way around here. Field very wet and wind strong from Storm Dudley. Found the trig well hidden in hedgerow. Trees shedding branches. Didn't linger.Pete West16/02/2022
From Hatterrall Hill via Longtown. Grassy domed sheepfield with extensive sunny views; trig nearby in hedge. Onto Walterstone Common.Denise 25/11/2021
From the N on path through field of pasture to levelish summit field with good gate access and trig pillar.RichardM25/11/2021

At first light on a Sunday morning. Long vegetation in the fields drenchingly wet coming in.Alex C16/08/2020
Parked in wide gateway almost opposite RoW at SO 3427 2941 - Over stile & up RoW to gate at top of 4th field - Through gate, over stile & along E. edge of a 5th field to another gate - Through gate into next field & then up over pasture to the unmarked summit S. of trig point. From the N like others. The top fields are interconnected so it was possible to do a circumnavigation of the hedge containing the trig without being spotted by cattle in a far corner.milimana23/07/2019
1.4 mile hill bag from road north (space to park 1 car), then easy ascent up path and through gateway into field where trig is, bagged all other high points in the fields either side as well. Cloud and fog so no very to speak of, later that day re-bagged Black Mountain in better weather.DanTrig06/04/2019
A beautiful sunny morning. Easy walking from the north with R and B. No mud or cows to contend with.jenx21/10/2018
Nice 6 field walk with the buds, not 5. Stiles and lines ok this time of yearnordicstar21/10/2018
From the wide gate entrance opposite the track from the north like others. Went to the far side of the field which looked higher then over SO 34429 28498 to the trig. There is no gate at the NE corner of the field and a very muddy gate at the W.Jim.Fothergill21/11/2017

Easily from the N across 5 fields. The trig is in the hedge and the summit in the field.Chris Peart25/10/2014
Approached from the houses to the SSW. My 40 year old map didn't show the path and I failed to spot it so I made my way over pasture, climbing gates and just one fence. No one around so OK. Highest point marked by a couple of mineral licks in field to W of trig.Herbert Anchovy11/09/2014
Parked at Track entrance to north at SO 34257 29397 (233m). Public footpath to 4th stile at SO 34392 28658. Turn left here and follow hedge/fence line to gate giving access to field with trig. Highest point is ground c50m south of trig at SO 34427 28496.David Gradwell19/08/2013
There is enough space to squeeze a couple of cars in the gate entrance (without blocking it) where the path going north reaches the road junction. The route to the summit passes through fields used as cattle pasture so the areas immediately around the stiles and along the field boundaries can become very messy after rain. If possible, choose a day when the ground is likely to be solid!moorsman14/05/2013
Steeply from Clodock on a wet blustery day.Clachaig11/05/2013
A short walk up on public paths from the minor road running to the north of the hill. Parking not too easy.jonglew20/04/2013
The trig point marked on the map is in a neighbouring field to the footpath.JohnStoneham06/05/2012
From north, parking for 1 car near gateway opposite start of FP into field. Plenty of stiles as Martin states. Did alot of field walking as not certain of highest point in flattish summit ? in field north of trig?Dugswell215/09/2011
The farmer does his bit by providing the stiles, the walkers don't do theirs and lot of tall damp grass. Friendly cows at top.Martin R01/08/2011
Parked to N. Followed ROW due S. High point could be in either field near trig.chrisbien18/07/2011
From Ferddin - ample parking. Grassy walk through sheep and cattle fields to trig disguised by hedgerow.destaylor11/09/2010
Walk up over fields from minor road to north.arranc27/08/2010
From the road to the north through about four fields and a over an enormous gate. Bagged trig then sought highest point. There are two contenders. One in the field where the trig is and one in the next field.Father Ted27/05/2010
With Lesley a long full day's walk from a lovely holiday cottage (Quizzer)we booked for the Easter week. One of the few good weather days that week. Walked north a long 8km over Mynydd Ferddin then up onto the ridge and back south along the Black Mountains ridge.Chris Pearson03/04/2010
walked after very heavy rain. Ground water logged trig pillar easily found had a good walk around to check for higher ground. Fine views of little black mountain to the northhodder28/01/2009
Climbed from the road to the north. Nice views. The trig point is on the north side of a hedge - not completely obvious.clivevilla03/01/2009
