1/8. As Gerrybowes. A few distant views added to the enjoyment. A few barking dogs from the farm but no movement. | Mark Jackson | 19/03/2024 |
Parked in lay-by at end of RoW at SP 2561 8441. Easy access along path then skirting the field margins to the HP. Also circled around the wall to bag the trig to the S. Note it’s in the E field but access can be gained by walking to the end of the hedge and back. Aided by mist otherwise in full view of the farm so approaching from the SW would have been better. Saw a family of deer in the mist. | Vulcan | 28/02/2024 |
Stopped by while driving up the 6. | justin_j_evans | 16/01/2024 |
Parked off road in front of mast enclosure gates at SP 25810 84247 - Through kissing gate, S. along field boundary to wide gap in hedge & then WNW through long grass alongside wall to high point. | gerrybowes | 19/07/2023 |
Discovered later that I've now compleated the Trent catchment. | Wycombe Wanderer | 06/04/2023 |
The new relocated top is fairly easy to acquire from a parking spot by transmitter at SP 25802 84225. Through the kissing gate, follow field boundary to SP 25789 84121 and along the very solid fence to the top. There and back 5 mins. | DC11main | 26/03/2023 |
Walked here from Hampton-in-Arden station. Explored the woods and the area near the phone tower - anyone's guess as to where the highest point is. If you're doing this from Meriden, note that the bridge on the B4102 heading over the A45 has been demolished and won't be rebuit and reopened until September.

Headed back to Meriden and then to Villa Park for the classic UA top / Tottenham away win double! | Richard | 09/04/2022 |
After bagging Corley Moor I ran around the edge of Birchley Heys Wood and down the road. There are two laybys within about 100m of the 'top'. Followed a scrappy path along side of field and then through about 2m of bracken to edge of wood where HP appeared to be. | Wheelsy | 09/07/2021 |
. | tim747 | 18/12/2019 |
Parked in very potholed layby to E. Path in woods overgrown so followed field edge to tree stump, then looked round in woods. | CreakingHiker | 18/12/2019 |
Made this harder than needed to be. First of all slinging it down with rain.
Walked from layby south down Fillongly Road and entered wood on right at broken gate. Should have followed field boundary on North side of wood, which is actually Stocked Wood, to tree trunk and high point. Wood floor covered in brambles tripped over and lost glasses in ground cover. After 20mins searching was getting desperate when found them.
Returned back to van soaked along field boundary to road and easy exit from wood with no fence and worn path.
After all this tracklog shows summit listed slightly north of 185m contour ring.
May return at a later date to re-enter wood to stand on brambles within contour ring that may or may not be higher. | mntainman | 12/12/2019 |
From lay-by, as others. Flat area of unfenced but private woodland. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 04/11/2019 |
On own. As others parked in lay-by on Fillongley Road (B4102) at edge of wood/arable field. Faint path through bracken and brambles in pleasant deciduous wood to hp where I tripped over the stump! Only found through use of my GPS with OS grid ref as all fairly flat and reading shows no metres of climb from road! | Beeliner | 02/10/2019 |
Parked in handy lay by to the East at SP260846. Found tree stump and wandered in brackeney woods. Hard to pinpoint high point. | David Evans | 12/08/2019 |
Small dirt layby W side road SP 2607 8463. HP about 100m into woods, somewhere in the 185m co. | jonglew | 23/07/2019 |
From the lay-by on the E side of the road to the overgrown path through the wood on the W side, and thence to the stump. | Nick Down1 | 21/07/2019 |
Parked in a lay-by at the edge of the wood, walked through said wood for a metre or two to gain access to the field and then walked up to the grid ref and tree stump. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 01/07/2019 |
Millison's Wood to Meriden. Gates & signage on local ROWs are generally in very good repair, but other than HoE Way, they are frequently obstructed by (brambly) vegetation indicative of little usage. | Smudge | 23/03/2019 |
7th top of 8 on a predominantly Worcestershire car tumping route, visiting Swines Hill, Rous Lench Hill, Moreton Hill, South Crest, Newborough and Moorgreen.
Managed to park in layby just before the potholes and fallen branches from a nearby pine tree. Easy access into wood and then verge to visit tree stump by fence but thought highest point lay further into the wood so recalibrated GPS to 185m then trudged through the brambles and bracken to investigate, recording 186m @ SP 25976 84603 and 187m @ SP 26005 84603; these points are outside the highest contour ring on OS maps. Os names the wood enclosed to the South as Stocked Wood and this summit appears to be in Boultbees Wood, Meighs wood is over to the East of the road. Continued to pass over Coventry U/A's top at Corley Moor before heading back home. Beware on the road as all the cars were speeding along it! | Dazingdale | 26/01/2019 |
Dank grey but atmospheric woods albeit with background rumble of M6 half a mile north | vegibagger | 19/02/2018 |
A day trip down to Birmingham to collect a speaker cabinet...and 15 new hills completed on the journey :) All done by the simplest methods already given by others | the_adam | 27/01/2018 |
Short walk from layby, easy enough if one steps out of wood onto field edge, along a bit then back into wood at tree stump. | Aye Jimmy | 16/08/2017 |
A bramble tripwire felled me too! Commando training (not) kicked in as I rolled on landing. However its such a short walk from the layby that I half considered unleashing excess energy down the road at the Heart of England Adventure Park where (for a fee) you can have unlimited use of their bouncy kingdom. | Chris Pearson | 23/03/2017 |
Bracken not too bad apart from the trip hazard. Not sure stump is any higher than ground nearer lay by. | Bramley | 12/11/2016 |
Layby, wood, field, bracken+brambles, stump. Returned same way. | Minto | 08/08/2016 |
Short way into the woods on the West side of the road, lay-bys on both side of the road. | Swindon Bagger | 26/05/2016 |
Another one of those what on earth am I doing here moments. Parked in layby which had more potholes than rubbish and a stumble around amongst branches and brambles. Some of the pricklies make superb tripwires.
Can I start a petition to rename this place Meh wood? | stig_nest | 22/04/2016 |
Parked in layby just past wood and along track to stump. Easier stroll back along field edge. | mart0797 | 21/02/2016 |
Burned marginally more energy than at the Coventry top a few minutes earlier. Had fun avoiding being run over by commuters dashing home on a Friday night. | Herbert Anchovy | 22/01/2016 |
Lay by needs a bit of pothole filling. Easily into woods over low bw fence. Then difficult progress through brambles etc to find high point. | ngthack | 27/12/2015 |
Made it to the tree stump by the barbed wire and got well scratched for my troubles | Overthehilljill | 19/10/2015 |
Followed track into wood and the thrashed around in bracken til happy had found HP | PeterD | 06/10/2015 |
Easy access from road, thrashed around through Bracken reinforced with viscious Bramble but unable to determine any real high point. GPS suggested tree stump at edge of wood the highest point but this is well outside the mapped contour ring. | RichardM | 31/07/2015 |
I went on a circular walk from Meriden, to find a few caches, bag this hill, and visit the trigpoint. | Alancache | 02/07/2015 |
From the lay by and into the wood. A bit overgrown. | Play2End | 14/06/2015 |
Parked in layby and then a short walk to abandoned tree stump. | bolton | 03/06/2015 |
2/2 Bagged on way to peak district short walk from road to forest edge | Fergalh | 01/05/2015 |
Not much to say really, except I did it in my business suit and shoes. | ijpowell | 15/04/2015 |
On another bagging spree! 2nd top of 7 today. | mcallmar | 10/04/2015 |
Climbed all the ancient county tops in 11 months. Now starting all the others with this walk from Coventry to Solihull and back. No climbing at all, anywhere! | callumorr | 07/12/2014 |
Very poor day weather-wise - absolutely belting it down. This county top situated in a wood which says no public access. | andyhudson | 24/05/2014 |
Brambles and bracken may be a problem sometime in the future but today access was easy with an almost discernible path to the summit. | Newton Maximus | 17/11/2013 |
just inside wood by tree stump. Walk in from road on paths. No view | arranc | 17/04/2013 |
Walked in from the east where there is room for parking. Rather a disappointing top. | JohnW | 01/01/2013 |
Parked in layby, had a good explore of the area. | magirob | 07/11/2012 |
Thanks for useful comments on where to park and how to find top, which saved time. Very flat, but quiet and pleasant short stroll. Private wood, but no access problems and a faint path to follow. Not very exciting, but a lot better than many unitary tops! | Hillsidenick | 27/10/2012 |
Drove by on way home. Stopped in layby as Doug mentioned. Cut into woods and over fence. Just found the stump buried in deep bracken. | nordicstar | 26/07/2012 |
Rainy day, damp top, parked in lay-by and agree with other comments as to where the summit is. | simon and co | 15/02/2011 |
Seventh tick today from handy layby on way to Rendering day at Luddington on Wednesday. | Dugswell2 | 08/02/2011 |
Did on way back from a funeral in Coventry. I am sure the farmer must have wondered what this guy in a suit was doing wandering round his field. | clivevilla | 13/10/2010 |
