After Carn DeargDenise 06/10/2023
Parked at the end of the public road in Glen Banchor. Carn Dearg, Carn Ban, Carn Ballach SW Top, Carn Ballach NE Top, Meall a'Bhothain, Carn Sgulain W Top, Carn Sgulain, A'Chailleach, Geal Charn. Very wet underfoot and gale force winds initially on Carn Dearg (hat blown over the cliffs) but easing later with cloud lifting. With Gillian and Denise.richard6906/10/2023
Drove up Strathdearn on Friday 4th August, hiked up along the River Findhorn, to its source 1km south of Dalbeg at the meeting of River Erskin and Abhainn Cor Clach. Camped there with a few thousand midges. Saturday 5th August, I hiked up the 'crow road' along the Abhainn Cor Clach, crossing it at NH 6397 0753, before ascending Fionn-tom Mor. I continued south (disturbing dozens of deer) to eventually ascend Carn Ballach (NE Top), then west to Carn Ballach (SE Top). I stopped for lunch on Carn Ban. Here I messed up and thought I could north to rejoin the Crow Road path. But I couldn't find a safe crossing point on the Abhainn Cor Clach and there was no obvious path on the north side of the glen. So I spent far too long walking upmand down the south bank while moving downstream, looking for a spot to cross. But never did, I eventually ascended Fionn-tom Mor again then descended to my original crossing point, which had risen after the rain.chillyman805/08/2023

Solo round of Càrn Dearg, Càrn Sgulain and A'Chailleach from parking spot in Glen Banchor. 7.15am start with headtorch. Circuit clockwise to get the long walk in out of the way, Quite a lot of bog encountered befoer the 250m pull up to the top of Càrn Dearg. Less bog up on the plateau, sometimes squelchy sections of peat, and sometimes frozen, with the occasional patch of icy snow to circumvent, so it was slow going at times. Dry weather, but bitterly cold wind up top. Long plod over the plateau before arriving at Carn Sgulain - there was a group of 3 ladies at the summit, so I said hello, but has no plans to stop at the top, so tapped the summit and headed over to A' Chailleach before the long descent. 7h 9min time.mproudfoot15/01/2022

I reached the top of Carn Dearg at about 1.20 p.m. where I paused briefly. I headed NNW towards Carn Ban over stony ground to a large cairn topped with white stone on the south side of a fence. I had lunch and finished my first flask at this point. I left Carn Ban about two o’clock following the line of the fence herding a flock of ptarmigan in their summer grey-flecked plumage.langskill07/08/1995

I went up the side of Meall na Ceardaich to the summit of Carn Ballach. Followed a boundary fence to Carn Ban and Snechdach Slinnean. Descended to Loch Dubh and followed the path and track back to the car. Some rain. Mist continually on the tops until Loch Dubh reached.pwbellarby20/05/1986

Alone. I took the train from Kingussie to Newtonmore after staying at the youth hostel at Kingussie. I walked from Newtonmore Railway Station via Glen Banchor, Dalballoch, Carn Macoul, Carn Dearg (SE and NW tops) to arrive at the summit of Carn Ban. The descent was via the upper reaches of Gleann Ballach, then following Allt Fionndrigh, Glen Banchor, Newtonmore and along the road to Kingussie. Hard snow and ice above 2250´. Some mist and wind. Much soft snow by Allt Fionndrigh and rain in the valley on the return. A few deer were seen on the lower slopes and several ptarmigan on the highest part of Carn Ban.pwbellarby09/02/1980
