Parked at the start of the strand 2 hours before the low tide and made way across followed track round the back and had a wander round the old abbey first then upto small reservoir and up small grassy gully on the right then followed path up. Came back down over other side which was a mistake in hindsight should of gone back the same way. Bogfest again!The-Z-Man25/03/2024
As Arnie said I'll be back! Thwarted by the tides 14 months ago today was a doddle. Some stretches of minor paddling, 8cm deep, 2hrs before a 0.6m spring tide on the crossing. Track all the way to the abbey for a look round. Then up to the summit, breaching the crags to the right. Path starting to form heading east from the summit to the high point of the farm track. Back across at low tide, puddle now only 5cm deep.Minto06/06/2023
Entertaining wade across the Strand, then some scrambling fun to be had on nice dry Dalradian schistRockdoctor07/05/2022
Headed to summit from high point on track to Oronsay farm.AndrewFinnimore22/03/2022
Damp crossing couple of hours before low tide. 2 channels of water to negotiate, one narrow and deep, the other wide and shallow. Took track to the priory ruins, up from there. On return took a line due E to meet the track at NR 3594 8910. Picked up Beinn Eibhne on the way back over.jonglew09/09/2021
With NB, GB from boat in Caolas Mor bay rough tracks and deep heather to summit. Visited priory and returned via good roads to bay. Excellent weather.Frank01/09/2021
4th tump of the day, offered a lift on the trailer of the oyster farmer's tractor over the strand so thought it rude to refuse. Climbed the hill after visiting the priory.NormanW24/08/2021

Day 1 of Rob and my Macfies round leaving the northern Macfies for Day 2. Sunny, windy, and great viz. Tough heathery hills and difficult nav. Two sea eaglesalexmaclennan29/08/2020
3rd tump of 8 on a 30.3km Oronsay and COlonsay completion route, leaving the Backpackers lodge near Kiloran House at 05.45, climbing Dun Gallain and Carn Spiris en-route, heading Sw down the valley then South across the sandy beach (with Arskenish to the West, keeping at the foot of Cuirn Mhora then heading East past Rubha nan Ron and after faffing about wading through pools of 2.5 foot deep water (mistakenly thinking it was an easier route) I crossed the strait with 2 foot of water at 08.10am and headed up the track veering off to cover some very marshy terrain before climbing up to the top. I explored all the options, marking the highest point at 94m at NR 35100 89219. Descent South to a ridge then Ese dropping between Dun Domhnuill fort and then down to the road following it back to the crossing point (several landrovers present) crossing with only a few inches, 2 minutes after low tide, heading for Beinn Eibhne...Dazingdale10/05/2018
This time visited Dubh Eilean the tidal island (B SIB)instead of summit. Island highpoint is cairn towards West end (NR 33701 88798/2m); cairn nearer E end is lower (NR 34301 88604). Is an island only at higher tidal states - we crossed dryshod, sometime towards high tide.RHW11/06/2015
Followed the tide out with a bit of paddling. Sheep tracks above the crags are helpful.summitsup10/06/2015
