Parked in layby on W. side of junction to NNE at SU 2164 8062 - Ridgeway up alongside the B4192 for 250m or so & then along bridleway to 276m spot height - About 80m over stubble to the unmarked summit. Returned to bend in track & then permissive path to the impressive Liddington Castle. Visited the trig point, natural high point & high point on ramparts. (S) | gerrybowes | 06/09/2021 |
What a disappointment compared to Liddington Castle. | DC11main | 11/07/2021 |
As part of The Ridgeway | lerritt | 26/09/2020 |
Parked on the grass verge on the B4192 and walked up the Ridge way NT grid ref in field. Just under 2 mile in 45mins. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 28/06/2020 |
From a small pull-in on the Chiseldon road, up the adjacent track to the south of the hill fort, over the fence and across the huge ploughed field to the apparent summit, which seems to be marked by two adjacent lumps of chert. Then on to the Castle summit. | Nick Down1 | 20/07/2019 |
Parked in a Lyly on the Ridgeway road to Chiseldon.
Up the ridgeway track to a gate. I continued to the true??? Summit and back to my wife to continue to the tri and info point around the field and along a permissive path
The true top is vague, but a small run around must have bagged it. | ChinnockC | 01/06/2019 |
After Liddington Castle, along Ridgeway and a few yards out into field | Bramley | 20/05/2019 |
Chiseldon - Liddington Castle - Liddington Hill - Coombe Down - Barbury Down - Hackpen Hill - Chiseldon | Mark Jackson | 06/04/2019 |
Ridgeway b/way from NE, then out into field of dead stubble. Old tractor lines followed to the Castle. | Aye Jimmy | 06/04/2019 |
On own. Parked on B4192 and walked up The Ridgeway then across field, no crops, to highest point based on GPS 10 fig OS grid ref. Walked over to possible other highest point (SU21057964) but much of the field seems a similar height. Also visited trig point at Liddington Castle and had a wander around earthworks of fort. | Beeliner | 21/03/2019 |

With Jenx and Bryher to both the proper top and the DoBIH top on a fine crisp morning | nordicstar | 12/10/2018 |
4th top of 6 on the 2nd Stage of the Ridgeway walk with Lesley on a route from Berwick Bassett to Hinton Parva, climbing Hackpen hill, Barbury Down then Coombe Down. I left Lesley on the Ridgeway for the 1st summit up and down then further along left her at the gate then had to walk back to reach the 2nd alternative natural summit before exploring the higher unnatural ramparts then Trig pillar. Lesley and I continued on the Ridgeway heading for the final top of Charlbury Hill... | Dazingdale | 23/09/2018 |
Liddington Castle is higher! Awful but unfenced muddy crop field with nothing to mark highest point. Luckily dense mist hid me as I trod over the mud. What a shame for everyone that this is considered the summit. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 19/02/2018 |
MTB up the Ridgeway from Uffington hill on a very cold and frosty day. | twg27 | 07/02/2018 |
With K. Early morning stroll under perfect skies. | Ashley | 13/11/2017 |
Parked in a lay-by on the B4192, near the 176m spot height, shown on the 25k map. Followed the byway up to the Ridgeway, then followed this path towards the summit. The summit is about 100m off the path. Continued to Liddington Castle, a much better summit, and descended to the B4192. I then crossed over the road and went up Sugar Hill, before dropping back down to the road near the car. | Sprog | 01/11/2017 |

On 6 mile circuit from SU231785. Lovely sunny day with blue skies and golden crops awaiting harvest. | milimana | 12/08/2016 |
Call of Duty -same name as the the popular computer game - but there the similarity ended on a dutiful revisit to do the new higher (but actually lower)top ! All to do with counting/ not counting earth embankments on which the trig sits. A mile up the tranquil Ridgeway gave time to count 68 shirehorses in a field below (is this a world record?) | Chris Pearson | 25/05/2016 |
Knee high crop in field - went to highest point of adjacenr ridgeway. | RocksRock | 15/05/2016 |
Ridgeway Race 40 miles | benwloudon | 07/05/2016 |
Parked by Ridgeway gate S of Liddington X Rds; bagged the 3rd barely discernable summit in an arable field then took a permissive path to Liddington Castle, a fascinating extensive hill fort. I walked back via a natural burial site and through grazing fields near the scarp- no ROW but stiles all the way back to the Ridgeway gate. A NE breeze kept the haze down on a cloudless day and I could just make out the Cotswolds; 3 miles in all. | pwheeler | 14/03/2016 |
Wander up to castle ring and south across the brown flattened stubble field puzzled by the 276m summit detailed to the south with the trig as 277m on the eastern tumulus ring. Presume its to do with natural ground rules. | vegibagger | 10/09/2015 |
Climbed in the pouring rain, along with the trip point on Liddington Castle. | DanMaisieBex | 31/08/2015 |
Walk along Ridgeway | Ramblingpaul | 03/08/2015 |
Along Bridleway and done in conjunction with Liddington Castle which is more interesting. | PeterD | 30/05/2015 |
Liddington Castle is a nicer summit but this is higher (just). Part of a 10 mile run on beautiful evening. | Swindon Bagger | 11/05/2015 |

1/10 First of long day follow track from east to top. An interesting diversion to the ancient hill fort is a must ! | Fergalh | 07/03/2015 |
Parked in the verge of the road to the SW, then along the path and onto the Ridgeway. Top is an indeterminate point in the field - went on to the fort and trig point which felt much more satisfying. Plenty of the UA tops are rubbish, but this one is well worth doing. | Richard | 06/12/2014 |
Short walk from the fort. | CornishGazza | 09/11/2014 |
Up Ridgeway from B4192 to NE, parking on verge. | Chris Peart | 06/08/2014 |
