From the CP at Rosthwaite. Cross the road and follow the path up left of Hazel Bank Hotel continue to 2681 1590 go through the gate follow path South up past Dock Tarn to 2708 1404. Head Northwest at the wall over rough ground up to Knotts, also took in High Crag to the South.Return down the steep path through the wood and along the wall to the start.smocks and denims19/01/2024
From the car park at Watendlath on a grey windy day with a driving drizzle at times. Followed the RoW past Dock Tarn, then using sheep trods across to the super peak of High Crag. Dropped back down to the Dock Tarn track and contoured round the west side of Great Crag, before crossing to Knotts. Then up to Great Crag (Wainwright Round 4), visiting both cairns, because I can never remember which is the summit. Descended down to the Watendlath/Rosthwaite highway, and then a revisit to Brund Fell (Wainwright Round 4). Although we have camped just below at the Thwaite House field countless times with GSAL Scouts, I have never traversed the ridge north from Brund Fell before, so continued on to the impressive Ether Knot, Brown Dodd and a tricky descent to Watendlath Beck, crossing through our campsite and back to Watendlath along the road in the fading light. 13km with an impressive 800m ascent taking me 4h 40m.silveracorn_alan19/02/2023

Long route starting from layby parking above Brandelhow Park. Skelgill Bank, Catbells, though didn't visit summit (v crowded & social distancing!), Maiden Moor, High Spy N top, High Spy, descent to Seatoller then climb to Bessyboot, Rosthwaite Fell, Dovenest Top (both tops), descent to Langstrath, then direct ascent to Low Saddle, traverse to Bell Crags, crossed by end of Blea Tarn to climb Great Crag, then Knotts, then Grange Fell and Kings How. Descent to Borrowdale and crossed S End of Derwentwater, taking path close to shore and back too start point. Some bright and exceptionally clear conditions for much of route.RobertP29/09/2020
Ascended from Great Crag, which I left in a heavy snow shower The route the heather was quite rough and steep with rocky outcrops. Despite the poor weather decided to ascend Knotts, finding a bit of a path through the heather. Weather cleared on summit, where there was a red deer sheltering nearby. Descended back to Rosthwaite, though the whole route would have been easier from Watendlath.JohnW26/02/2020

Another torturous final ascent - no real path, lots of bracken and heather. Wouldn't want to come up here if it was wet.benarbia_801/07/2018

Easy parking halfway to Stonethwaite from main road. Over bridge at Stonethwaite, SE along track then paved path uphill through wood to emerge by small ruin. Along path to sharp bend, shallow valley on left to Knotts. Colourful summit rock!Aye Jimmy27/08/2015
Stonethwaite > Knotts > Great Crag (Stonethwaite) > Grange Fell [Brund Fell] > King's How - Grange Fell > Eelstep Brow > B5289 to Rosthwaite > Annerdale Ramble > Castle Crag > Annerdale ramble > Rosthwaite > B5289 then to StonethwaiteTony Hartry27/06/2015
A vague path leads through the heather after diverting from the Great Crag track. Miss this and it becomes a plod. Easier to find on descent (which doesn't help you at all). Parked at Watendlath (alt 862ft)moorsman06/03/2015
Trackless and protected by deep heather. The top is on the northern end despite a little cairn on the southern end.peebs09/10/2013

With Jo, circular walk from Rosthwaite: Willygrass Gill, High Crag, Knotts, Great Crag, Dock Tarn, returning via Puddingstone Bank. Weather; generally overcast with occasional sunny intervals, good visibility.amblerbob23/04/2012
From Great Crag. Descent down the path at the side of Willygrass Gill was absolute murder on the knees.Wheelsy12/04/2012
Stonethwaite - Eagle Crag - Sergeant's Crag - High Raise - Ullscarf - Great Crag - Stonethwaite; a reasonable if rarely-attempted circuit. Added Knotts after Great Crag, with Mum waiting by the tarn I legged it and almost broke my neck in the tangle of heather and crags. Knotts was nice thoughMark Jackson14/04/2009
Solo. Also bagged White Crag (380m).Dangerous Dave13/04/2009
