Parked in the large layby 200m S of bridge to forest road. Followed the track to Norman's grid ref. The mapped track is far from obvious at the start, but it was marked by a pink tape stretched across it. The track is becoming very overgrown in places, and would benefit from secateurs or small loppers to keep it clear. Quite wet underfoot. From the clearing by the first fence (broken) the 2nd fence with now broken gate is easily reached, and up to the Tump and Marilyn summits. Back the same way. | Minto | 16/01/2024 |
Walked across the frozen bog from Carn Gaineamhach. Back the same way. With Jill & Minto. | Dangerous Dave | 16/01/2024 |
Plenty parking at approx 407687. Left main track at 39548/69073 & up old ATV track to broken deer gate at 39680/68144. To Carn Gaineamhach on way. | duchally | 22/05/2023 |
With Rhona, Gordon, Struie and Hoy. Walked up from track S of Balckwater car park. stopped at Lochan nam Breac. Then ascended via Carn an Fhuarain. Descent SE to pick up forestry track back to start | DampandDusty | 26/01/2023 |
Parked at large lay-by south of bridge NW side of hill. Up track, bearing right then took faint track up through trees to exit near gate. Over top to main summit beyond. Late afternoon. | N.Morters | 25/11/2022 |
From the Tump to this summit with great views to the north. I went back over this Tump and found the gate in the deer fence and Normans track on the descent which is quite good. Under 3 hours. Solo. | bolton | 01/11/2022 |
Parked at Silverbridge and cycled back along main road for 100 yds, then up forestry track to leave bike at 396696 where a well-established ATV track led up the Allt Leacach, becoming fainter at the 210m contour. Followed it most of the way to the summit, with one section of hard going through native trees recently-planted by digging large holes. Clear evening after v rainy day. | Rounsfell | 06/09/2022 |
How to make a short walk difficult - do it in falling snow. Makes the knee deep heather, bogs and tussocks much more invigorating. The downside is that the return is blissfully easy using the trail that you broke on the way out. Norman's ATV track is easy enough to find, it's on the 1:25K map, and was looking very festive with little Christmas trees growing all over it. It has not been used for years and is pretty overgrown. Higher up, the surface is incredibly slippery on a winter's day, covered in disgusting slimy mud. The exit up to the gate onto the hill is horrid in winter, steep, broken, heathery. Maybe there's a track under there, who knows? I'm sure it's all dead easy in summer. 15/10 on a scale of 0 to Fannich. | Gill | 25/11/2021 |
Parked in lay-by near the bridge then followed the forestry track to the coordinates given by NormanW to the atv track. Though clearly seldom used it brings you right out onto the open hillside. Great views especially Ben Wyvis opposite. | Peterb | 30/10/2020 |
Parked by the bridge, 1km SE of Inchbae Lodge, then west to where Norman Wares marked a small track up through the wood. Easy climbed but does draw you away east of where you really want to go. Then a good walk across the top. I descended down the firebreak where the trees have been replanted, very quick although a bit rough but gets you back onto the track. Probably better to ascend this way too. | Simon Winton | 25/01/2020 |
From footbridge on A835 - followed forest track W and then SW to it's end, directly up besidde forest on vague path then across moor to summit, descent via firebreak / young forest area back to track. Almost 2.5 hours return. Might have been shorter approach via firebreak. | willyross | 19/12/2018 |
Despite two months of drought this was a wet walk accompanied by cloots and midges | Oh no I forgot... | 20/07/2018 |

Solo trip. Ascent up track, easting 397, as others have described. Firebreak NNW of Carn Gaineamhach is not recommended: new tree seedlings planted on steep mounds with deep holes to match. | Invicta14 | 20/05/2018 |
From footbridge near Inchbae. Go to 39648 69034 and follow atv track to gate in deer fence at 39680 68145. Simple - that was my descent, on ascent battled the forest ... | NormanW | 08/05/2018 |
carn gaineamhach and carn na dubh choille from parking at bridge track for about 700 m then up left hand track for 200m then up right hand track faint path soon vanishes but easy enough up to open ground. | robertphillips | 08/10/2017 |

Didn't find a very good way either up or down. Did a bit of crawling through the forest on the way down which is always good fun. | jenx | 17/07/2016 |
From roadsides parking. Over bridge and track to the wide ride. Up that, back over the Tump and found a line down thriufh the trees to track described by others. | nordicstar | 17/07/2016 |

From footbridge on A835 followed track W and then SW to it's end, directly up through forest break to open ground and summit, descent via Carn Gainheamach and firebreak back to track. | Chris Peart | 10/06/2016 |
Good path up from forest track onto Tump and then onto summit in very high winds. Difficulty standing. | Campbell Singer | 22/10/2015 |
Heavy going up deep heather but well worth it. Great views. | BigJ | 18/11/2014 |

Terrible ascent through the forest. Boggy moor. got completely soaked. Hot shower and cooked breakfast at Altguish made up for the early morning walk. 2 hours. | alexmaclennan | 09/05/2014 |
Parked by bridge off A835, up track and on to open hillside. | AndrewFinnimore | 19/02/2014 |
Revisit for trig. Via the P30. From NE via newish footbridge. Followed forest road R about 500 m then track up - sketchy but OK underfoot and free of trees. Blowing a hoolie! | RHW | 16/11/2013 |

Nice little hill with good views. | Martin R | 23/10/2013 |
From bridge at 406689 and track as far as break in felled forestry, then heavy going through thick vegetation, no tracks or paths. | Topographer57 | 05/08/2013 |
Made up date may repeat it. | tallscottishguy | 01/01/2013 |
The main bridge to the forest track was closed. Able to cross the river near a layby further on and ascend through the gap between the forests, going over Carn Gaineamhach to the summit. | JohnW | 16/04/2011 |

Sunny, one shower, cold wind on top, good views. | iangalbraith | 14/09/2007 |
From Inchbae bridge by tack and straight line over tussocks. | Eddie | 25/01/2007 |
Parked on old bit of A835. On road, over river on forest track for 3/4 mile, then uphill in very wide fire break. Through gate in deer fence to upper forest line. Uneven trudge uphill through bracken and tussock and deer grass to top of Carn Gaineamhach with turbine. Mist came down as I made my way down to a wide col and up to column with no FB built in. 13.15. | arranc | 03/07/2006 |
