From parking by Braemore phonebox (ND072304), across bridge and followed signed track up past cottage and directly S onto old ATV track up to col between East Scaraben and Scaraben (track often faint and boggy), then up to Scaraben summit, continuing down and up to Sròn Gharbh, descended initially NNW, then NE (to avoid steeper slopes) towards Allt an Easain Ghil, followed that roughly NNE over awkward wet and tussocky ground with intermittent deep and ATV tracks, reached an ATV track by a ford at ND064293 and followed it to Braeval, turning E on a new track that bypasses Braeval buildings and connects to the road from Braemore bridge, to start (4h20m)kdbennett20/03/2024
East - West traverse of Scaraben Ridge starting with Meall na Caorach. Parked at the Braemore phonebox, took the river path to the east end of the ridge before ascending. Returned NE from the bealach between Sròn Gharbh and Scaraben until hitting the path (quad track) that runs from Braemore to the bealach between Scaraben & East Scaraben.Tisteln17/11/2023
From small parking area at end of the road (ND 0730 3044). Estate signage points the way, good(ish) track leads up to col between Scaraben and its East Top. Did E top first then doubled back for here. On to Stron Gharbh and Sal-vaich.jonglew16/11/2023
Pleasant walk along the broad ridge from East Scaraben. With Helen & Jon.Dangerous Dave16/11/2023
A lovely autumn day for a walk up Scaraben, which is always lovely, with stunning views. The soggy ATV track from Braemore was frozen on the way up, but water wings needed on the way down. On to East Scaraben afterwards, very easy going, even though the ATV track has almost faded away. I was surprised to find that the aerial is so close to the top. A short stroll east leads to a cairn and lovely views along the coast. The views on the way back to the Scaraben bealach are even more special. Baggers beware: the road to Braemore is in an atrocious state, many huge potholes and collapsed verges. Take care not to break your car.Gill212/11/2023
From Smean. Easy descent to the col. Decided to miss Sron Garbh on account of rain which seemed to have arrived early and the cloud base which was beneath the summit, although it turned out to be only a shower. So hiked up to the 450m shoulder north of Sron Garbh, then contoured round to beneath the col, up to the col, and along the ridge to the summit, now in cloud and rain with a stiff southerly wind. Descended north off the summit, initially very loose, but soon heathery and grassy and much better going, to the line of fence posts. Good going from there and picked up a good path lower down, to the walkers route around the south of Braeval.Owen B17/09/2023
From Morven, kept to W of Smean, up to col between east summit and main summit. Descent N to gate in deer fence ((ND 07266 299196) and signed track back to car park by phone box.MichaelF16/05/2023
Done from Braemore as sixth top in a round of Maiden Pap, Carn Mor, Smean, Sal-vaich and the 3 tops of Scaraben. Great views all round, finished with walk beside river for return to Braemore.clashcityrocker23/03/2023
From Braemore, route is signposted past a cottage then ATV track to the bealach between East Scaraben and Scaraben. From West Scaraben, ground good at first but horrible mix of bogs and tussocks lower down, but better closer to the river.benalder28427/01/2023
With Yeltzbagger from phone box at Braemore. Followed the signs. Easier than I thought and not too boggy. Incredible views from the top from Ben Hope to Assynt., with spectacular Morden, Maiden Pap and Smean close by.Stevie n Tay28/11/2022

Clockwise circuit of Morven and Scaraben etc from Braemore. Amazing wee harvest of cloudberries near summit but not quite ripe yet.daviemore16/07/2022
Parked to north by phone box - small CP. Followed signs to Scaraben - basically atv to colcarole engel20/06/2022
From E summit and on to the W one. What a superb hill.sclater28/12/2021
From Braemar, across hillside, to col, where I was suddenly enveloped in cloud in what was otherwise a perfect day. Back almost the same way.IanHHill07/06/2021
Round of Scaraben, Smean and Maiden Pap from Braemore. Faint and soggy track up. A party of four were on the summits at the same time.Topographer5730/05/2021
A lovely walk once you get onto the hill. From Braemore, the route to Scaraben is signposted past a cottage, hard track, then wet ATV track to the bealach between East Scaraben and Scaraben. Cold day, glad to break out into the sunshine. Nice, dry walking on moss and quartzite to the top, fine views. On to West Scaraben/Sron Garbh, easy going, lovely hill. Return to Braeval good at first but a gruesome plod through bogs, tussocks, rough heather from 450m down to 200m. Sheep tracks and ATV tracks make the going easy thereafter following along the river, then crossing it.Gill26/11/2020
With the East and West tops.Peterb26/10/2020
From Braemore. Track past cottage, through deer gate then ATV track all the way to radio mast close to summit of East Scaraben. Then Scaraben and Sron Gharbh.PGCE20/10/2020
From Braemore (next to telephone box) took Walkers track signed Morvern turning onto Maiden Pap as we passed it (just beyond forestry plantation). Summit bagged we head for Scaraben 609 then 626 summit (and trig) bagged. Decended down ATV track from col between Scaraben and East Scaraben that leads back to Braemore.briandavies14/09/2020
The 4th and last of the round from Braemore. Descended from the col between itself and East Scaraben. ATV track that leads to a gate close to the house. Under 6 hours for the round. Solo.bolton08/09/2020
From road end at Braemar and along track and then paths and some tussocky grass to Morven summit. Ten across country in fine weather to Scaraben and Scaraban east to drop down to start. A longish day but enjoyabledickscroop08/08/2020
Parked near Braemore phone box, crossed river, turned left and followed ATV track to col between East Scaraben and Scaraben, then pleasant stroll to stony summit. Back by same route.willyross27/08/2019
We started from Braemore, following the track then boggy stalkers path running alongside Berrtiedale Water until about 500m past a footbridge. A difficult heather/bracken climb ensued, taking us up the north side of Meall na Caorach, eventually reaching the summit sweat-drenched and fly-bitten (yuck). After deep swigs of water we moved westwards to East Scaraben, Scaraben, then Sron Gharbh, along an increasingly rocky ridge, heading directly back to Braemore over heather then grass, finding occasional animal and vehicle tracks to ease our passage. 4.5hrs in total.summitter27/07/2019
Parked at end of road Braemore “strictly” no cars beyond there, “strictly” dogs on leads. Followed farm track west to first farm, track to stile onto open moor. Kept to ATV track when we could see it which was marked with white posts in hope that this would minimise disturbance to any nesting birds. Excellent views of Maiden Pap what a hill.rogreeves02/07/2019

W Jenx on the round of the 4 Marilyns; Maiden Pap, Smean, Morven and Scaraben. A 9 hour day in generally good weather, very wet underfoot though after the dowsing yesterday. Up from Braemore - after first three went up West Scaraben (Sron Gharbh) before Scaraben itself. Mist descended again, enjoyed the round done at the trig before descending Northern slopes easily back to Braemore.nordicstar06/06/2014

Under bealach at 1700' and a final push up to broad flat expanse of summit ridge. Avoided quartzite runs and a long half mile to the top at 13.00. Trig 3466. Climbed over a 15' dia wind break to get in. Strong S wind. To next bealach and east top, to outlying cottages, bridge and car. 5 hrs.arranc18/06/2008
