After Bhraggie. | hils | 15/09/2023 |
Parked at 780049. Over to path at approx 784046, left it at approx 786031 corner. On return went from 784046 on faint path now and again to join road at 78181/04924. | duchally | 30/08/2023 |
Bit of a damp heathery tramp from Ben Bhraggie, as well as a deer fence clamber. Returned via the overgrown path from Loch nan Caorach, which had the distinct benefit of a gate through the deer fence. | summitter | 01/08/2023 |

From main car park in village - up the Ben Bhraggie path to monument before leaving the track and going off-piste over rough moorland to summit. Descent to Loch na Caorach and then followed paths/tracks/road to descend by the Big Burn walk (which was the unexpected highlight of the day to be honest!) | benalder284 | 12/10/2020 |

Parked in centre of Golspie (Fountain St Car Park (Coffee Hut at rear of car park very good fab cakes). Along road past church / fountain under rail line then followed the waymarked track up Ben Bhraggie to the Monument to the 1st Duke of Sutherland. But our goal lay beyond. Leaving the track we made slow progress over the tusky grasses to the summit of Beinn Luunndaidh. Retraced our steps back down. | briandavies | 20/09/2020 |
Self and dog. The large open area at the 97m crossroads is now full of silage bales, however two cars may be squeezed in to a smaller gravelled area opposite. We went westwards along forest roads then a good track, branching up the Allt Loch nan Caorach along the wet ATV track, then north of Loch nan Caorach to the summit. Returned south of the loch. The dog found the pathless, tussocky bog very tiring. A bleak day with strong E wind. | Invicta14 | 16/09/2020 |
Parked in the carpark at p97 and followed the track right round to the back of Ben Bhraggie, from here it was just a bog trot to the summit of Beinn Lunndaidh. Fortunately it was partially frozen so it wasn’t as wet as it looked like it could have been. On my return I decided to visit Ben Bhraggie which was only a short detour. | Peterb | 09/01/2020 |
Cimbed Beinn Bhraggie with Stevie n Tay then went across on my own to Beinn Lunndaidh. Went down via Big Burn. Magical, unforgettable place. | Yeltzbagger | 23/10/2019 |
Circular route via B Braggie Wood, loch nan Chaorach, Ben Braggie and monument to Duke of Sutherland. With Ellie dog. | BLACKHILL | 14/06/2019 |
Parked in the housing street just southwest of the hospital. Gate to moor, track to the Mannie. Track beyond, then so so wet moorland. | iangalbraith | 03/06/2019 |
After Ben a'Bhragaidh via good track until it turns east, then across the wet moor. Found faint ATV track on return which starts almost at trig. This was also damp but better than crashing straight across the moor. My. 600th Marilyn | trimarc2 | 20/05/2019 |
made a bee-line from track past Ben Braggie where it turns back towards the coast. Made use of quad-bike tracks where possible. Returned to Golspie via delightful path down the 'Big Burn'. | KeithByTheC | 26/04/2019 |
Parked in large gravel area, through gate, at 97m X-roads (no objections received). Exited forest at NC818016 and, noting the comments by others about how wet the high level passage can be, I followed a good dry 4x4 track (signed 'Glenview Point') to NC810022 (shown as a FP on OS map). From termination of this 4x4 track I linked up ridges N of Loch nan Caorach to take advantage of dry ground. From the top I returned via the reported wet route across the 'flat col' using an ATV track - whilst it was less 'lumpy' underfoot than my route up, it was very very much wetter. | Isbjorn | 29/12/2018 |
From Golspie. | David Bremner | 20/10/2018 |
Solo | HFB | 20/10/2018 |
From the Gate House C.P with GHC. Along the track and across the bog. Too wild to notice a view. | Play2End | 21/09/2018 |
From the northwest. A useful vehicle track leaves the yellow road at NC 78043 04873 and goes to the east of Cnoc na Gamhna. Then went to Ben Bhraggie. As the previous blogger has gone off topic, I thought I'd add that the clearances were a economic issue and would almost certainly have happened whoever the duchess had married. That by pouring the money that he had earned in the potteries into the area the duke can be seen to be the areas greatest ever benefactor. | Alan Moore | 11/05/2018 |
Parked on large area of hard standing through the field gate to the right (downhill side) of the crossroads; according to locals this is OK. Up the land rover track to where it's level with the 355 m col and contoured across to the col, then unrelenting bog trot all the way to the top. Back over Ben Bhraggie is recommended to turn it into a nice walk instead of just another squelch fest, with lovely woods lower down. No idea why the Duke of Sutherland's tenants thought it a good idea to pay for a monstrous statue of the murderous blighter, but at least his descendants have turned Ben Bhraggie into a walkers/MTB/Trail bike theme park to keep the plebs happy. | Gill | 07/04/2018 |
Walked cross from the monument, with Big J | Nozzer | 18/12/2017 |
Bagging the trig. | BigJ | 18/12/2017 |
From 97m crossroads, good track up to bend, thereafter wet and tiresome. If it's not on your list, don't bother, go to the memorial instead. | Topographer57 | 30/09/2017 |
After Ben Bhraggie. Follow tussocky grass etc to summit. Rough. On to Cnoc na Ghamba. | Thearlaichdubh | 15/05/2017 |
3 of 7: From Beinn a Bhragaidh. | ChrisR | 03/03/2017 |
After Ben Horn from Bridge of Horn. Up one of the two wide and obvious break in the woods. Deer fence top of woods then series of drainage channels leading to ridge. Descent in darkness as late start after 5pm. Good alternative to the memorial routes. | N.Morters | 02/03/2017 |
From parking above Golspie. Took the tracks w Jenx to Ben Baggie but veered off to path supposedly to lochan, has disappeared and hacked up the hill over rough ground into a headwind for 2km. Lovely. After trig headed back and picjed up Lord Knobs Tump on Baggie the FPdown East sude to tracks and car. | nordicstar | 25/03/2016 |
Some good paths and tracks, but some disappointing squelchy bits too. And the howling gale. | jenx | 25/03/2016 |
Route from the crossroads as done by others. Quite straightforward. | martin_hall | 09/07/2015 |
from crossroads above golspie tracks to highpoint then across heather returned along caorach path. | robertphillips | 14/06/2015 |
Parked at small crossroads above Golspie (NC83216 01354) – W. up track to high point on NW slope of Ben Bhraggie – WNW across moor to trig point – Back to car via Loch nan Caorach.(PM) | gerrybowes | 21/05/2015 |
Parked at 832014 at the crossroads. Followed the monument track to its western most turn and then cut across to the summit. Return via the loch with GB. | bolton | 21/05/2015 |
Various inc JC and DC and O. Heather bash across from track. | Martin66 | 29/12/2014 |
During a New Year week in Helmsdale. After nipping up Ben Horn in the morning, set off up from the car park off the minor road beyond the sawmill NE of Golspie along the river to the road bridge. Took the firebreak underneath the power lines for a short distance before turning R on decent track & looping up behind Beinn Bhraggie. Then with Martin66, J, Otis, Shaky & Smithy, left the track & heather bashed across to the summit. Back to the track, keeping to higher, drier ground further to the W, then along to the monument & back to the car along the minor paths & tracks. | NotReallyABagger | 29/12/2014 |
Up good path to monument then across to summit via track and some rough ground. Descended east to forest track and back to car. | AndrewFinnimore | 18/10/2013 |
Ascended from Golspie on forest tracks and on to Loch nan Caorach. | JohnW | 17/06/2012 |
Used wind power station road from NC810038. Made a point of not going to the effigy of the loathsome duke of ethnic cleansing, that unfortunately blots the landscape. | Martin R | 30/05/2012 |

Revisit. Tussocky peaty summit, late evening. | RHW | 26/05/2010 |
from Bhraggie. Strong SW wind on dry spongy moor. Around to right with views of the Loch and to top at 11.00. Trig with no FB built in on a raised platform covered in grass. Bridge over Dornoch Firth, Ben Horn turbines, Armine and Bhraggie monument. | arranc | 14/06/2008 |
Up from Golspie, return via Beinn a'Bhragaidh. | Eddie | 08/07/2006 |
Started in Golspie used paths to the monument for about half a mile and then headed for Loch Lunndaidh. From the loch it was a steep ascent to the trig which had lost its flush bracket. On to monument then down on a path created for the Y2K. | garyhoney | 03/06/2002 |
Date is first visit. Notes from later...pleasant start, dull moorland, pleasant summit; NB trig has no flush bracket nor provision for one. Track from SE towards monument then boggy moorland | RHW | 14/10/2001 |
