Rum Cuillin Traverse with Wooly. 12 hour trip starting and finishing in the dark. From Kinloch via Coire Dubh to Hallival then onto Askival. Descent into Bealach an Oir then steeply up Trollabhal. Scrambling near top then out and and back to summit. Fantastic! Cross the Bealach an Fhuarain then ascended the steep shoulder low on Akival on the W side crossing to the E side in strong wind to gain the top via good but very steep path. Easier terrain now over Nameless Top (Leac a'Chaisteil)and onto Sgurr nan Gillean. Descent to Dibidil down S shoulder and curving east lower down. Visit to excellent bothy at Dibidil and then along reasonable path back to Kinloch. Glorious sunshine and clear skies all day, cold and sometimes windy but he views to Skye, Eigg and the other Small Isle was wonderful. A great day.John Lee30/10/2023

4 of 6: From Ainshval. Easier than expected must have picked the best line. Short scramble to the west top. Excellent views all round. With Tim.ChrisR06/05/2023

It always rains when I'm in Rum, so never had a chance to do the full ridge...thus picking off summits one by one. Inevitably, a very wet start with gales and lightning forecast, so an early start up Atlantic Coire. Easy onto the ridge, but the low cloud meant that I couldn't see where I was going. Basically stuck right on the crest of the ridge, quite hard scrambling in heavy rain with no idea where the easy route goes. At the E summit, the clouds parted, giving amazing views. The little climb to the W summit is definitely easy Grade 1, but what was I on below? I could see the easy mossy descent to the NE, which was a lazy proposition to return but meant I could admire the now stunning views. My penultimate Graham and what a good one.Gill01/11/2022

Day trip from Mallaig - Saturdays give you more than 10 hours! Rum Cuillin then down to Harris, over Orval and Bloodstone Hill to Guirdil then back to Kinloch - you can do plenty when you run!quadbarrel19/06/2021
Round of Hallival, Askival, Trollaval and Ainshval from Kinloch Castle. Reached the east top, easy at first but gets harder, and a safe scramble to the true west summit looked uncertain. Fortunately two other guys appeared who assisted me. Back down to the south east, dropping below the Bealach an Fhuarain to avoid difficulties.Topographer5714/07/2019
2 nd trip to Rum ; a fine exposed top but not difficult on a good weather day; fine viewsdmckeith04/06/2019
From Ainshaval. Knew to keep to the right off Ainshaval initially, but despite good maps (hard copy and OS on the phone), in the hill fog missed the path. Ended up to the left (west) of the higher crags. Tried to find a route to the right, but blocked by the crags. Didn't fancy returning to the summit. Cloud base at 700m, from where I figured out I could find a way down and then contour across the scree to the baelach. Undignified bum shuffling but not too bad. Top of Trollaval also in hill fog but knew to go round the NE side and minor scrambling got me to the true top OK.Owen B19/06/2018

MMC trip to Rum. Day 3. Perfect day for traverse as overcast, light wind, high cloud. Technically easy but long ascent from final top and a dreadfully boggy walk out the Papadil/ Dibidil track. 13 hoursalexmaclennan18/05/2015
Hadn't really researched the route so quite surprised at the scrambling involved. Great summit.KevPalmer17/06/2014

Mad one day dash w Jenx due to weather forecast, dire Sun-Tues so early boat Sat and scamper round Rum Cuillin tops and back for last boat home. Great hills, all Corbetts, Graham and odd other top for good measure. Ok traversing lines between cola made for quicker return to start.nordicstar14/09/2013

A superb airy double summit perched above big drops. A lovely place to sit in the evening sunshine. Our scrambling descent line due south was 'interesting' - led by the courageous Darren -and surely not the normal line -a bit of prior research might have paid off?Chris Pearson25/07/2012

Visit of Highland Geological Society to Rum. Initially with others but continued alone. Up path beside Allt Slugan a' Choilich into Coire Dubh and then SE to col with point 411m. Went up NW ridge to summit of Hallival and down W ridge. Up N ridge of Askival and down W ridge to Bealach an Oir. Up E ridge of Trallval. Two tops on Trallval. A bit of a scramble from the first top to the second, higher one, but not difficult. Returned to Bealach an Oir and contoured tediously round the head of Atlantic Corrie to get back to Coire Dubh.pwbellarby21/04/2012
