Sgurr Dhomhnuill, Sgurr a' Chaorainn and Beinn na h-Uamha with John and Jon (and Alfie the retriever). Traverse from Ariundle Forest car park to Sallachan (car on either side). Bigger day than anticpated with some steep rough terrain - particularly the drop off Sgurr na h-Ighinn where we dropped about 100m to find we couldn't find a route down through the crags, so had to reascend to the top to find another route down. Expected duration was arounds 8h - but we got back to Sallochy after 9h 20min, with head torches on. Tough day. | mproudfoot | 04/11/2023 |
Parked Sallachan (NM 9785 6297). Mapped track along Loch nan Gabhar - impossible to cycle, hard to walk with many waterlogged sections and a very rough, stony surface. Despite recent rain, river Gour easy to cross (NM 9421 6438). From Beinn na h-Uamha, onto Sgurr a'Chaorainn, Sgurr na h-Ighinn, Sgurr Dhomhnuill (steep descent off NW face no problem), onto Druim Garbh, Meall Lochan Mhic Gille Dhuibh (wish I hadn't bothered as it put me into unpleasant ground - rocky outcrops, deep vegetation - finally trig on Druim Glass. From here picked up bike and free wheeled all way down to Ariundle Hostel. Following day got bus from Strontian (1 mile bike ride) and bus stop on village green (very obvious) - currently bus at 8.50am running as Corran ferry shuttle which is currently off for 4 to 6 weeks (told 16th Aug 23). Regular bus is at 9.30am. Sheil Buses 01397 700700 | carole engel | 16/08/2023 |
From Sallachan with Dangerous Dave. | ger | 03/08/2023 |
Good parking north of bridge at Sallachan. Walked on old road south of Loch nan Gabhar all the way to the end where it is easy to cross the River Gour. Steep climb up grassy slopes west of Allt Daraich to join the broad east ridge to the summit. With Reg. Back same way. | Dangerous Dave | 03/08/2023 |
Via Glen Gour. | hils | 16/06/2023 |
3/4 After a'Bheinn Bhan and before Sugrr a'Chaorainn on point-to-point walk from Corran to Upper Scotstown. All but last summit clear. Low cloud coming and going, sun struggling to break through. | Rounsfell | 26/05/2023 |
Sgurr a' Chaorainn & Beinn na h-Uamha from the Ariundle CP. Through the NNR to the old Lead mines. Up to Druim Leac a' Sgiathain, then contoured around Sgurr na h-Ighinn using deer trods to reach Sgurr a' Chaorainn, then on to Beinn na h-Uamha. Reversed the route to get back. 7hrs. | summitter | 27/02/2023 |

From Sallachan. To the end of the track, across the river (barely a trickle after a dry few days). Up the west side of Allt Daraich, steep but mostly grassy, not too bad. Faint path in places. Great views on a warm, sunny day. | Owen B | 30/05/2021 |
During a solo week in Ardgour & Sunart. Did the courteous thing & contacted the local estate office giving detailed proposed route in effort to avoid any stalking. The dubious reply started with 'it would be best for us...if you could avoid planning to take access during this 8 week period...' before grudgingly asking me to stick to paths & ridges. Went out on the hill anyway. From the nature reserve to the lead mine & then up Druim Leac a' Sgiathain as far as the lochan, traversed the slope using a faint path to the col under Sgurr a'Chaorainn. Ascent of slope much rougher than it looked. Then followed the rough ridge to Beinn na h-Uamha. Back by the same route: a tough day. Didn't see any stalkers or anybody else. Probably a bit easier to start at mast on road N of Strontian. | NotReallyABagger | 01/10/2019 |
Misty but still - long walk in from Ariundle | davechaffey | 29/11/2018 |
Over Corran Ferry, hoped for a lift on road but very little traffic so walked with all my camping gear. A rough track up Glen Gour, glad I did not bring my bike despite the road walk.Pitched tent then up and down Beinn na h-Uamha. Quite steep but no real problems. track in and hill both pretty wet as was my tent pitch! | dickscroop | 26/10/2018 |
Cycled up Glen Gour. Track is very poorly drained and, higher up, very stony. At end of track I forded the river in crocs. Ascent mostly grassy steps but is quite steep in places. | Topographer57 | 19/08/2018 |

With M. Last of Strontian Corbetts, missed in June. Done from FW via Corran Ferry. A bit rocky but fairly easy. Nice meal at Ferry Inn afterwards. | douglas_easton | 08/10/2016 |
'Cycled' from Sallachan to 92532/64611 but wouldn't do again as track is one of the roughest I've been on. I had to get off several times. Flat tyre when got back down from Sgurr a' Chaorainn. | duchally | 02/08/2016 |
Beinn na h-Uamha, Sgurr a'Chaorainn, Sgurr na Laire from Sallachan via the pleasant Glen Gour on a warm sunny day. Encountered an adder on the path on the return. | RobertP | 26/05/2016 |
Glorious solo walk along north ridge from Sallachan in bright sunshine. snow from 600m.so snowshoed on a couple of tops. | alexmaclennan | 09/03/2016 |
From Arundle car park (10:20) cycled up track to 855654 (near ruin by river)(10:50). Climbed to upper track & old mine, then up ridge over Sg na h-Iguinn (12:50), down to col and up to Sg Dhomhnuill (13:25). Lovely day, fine views. Returned to col then descended E down steep grassy slope keeping R of burn to cross glen. Then traversed L, then up to col & broad rocky ridge to quartzite cairn on B na h-Uamha (15:45). Retraced steps westward and traversed Sg a Chaorainn (17:05), descending WNW down to col. Down SW to glen and followed river back to bike (18:40) and car (19:10). Fabulous long day in glorious weather with views to outer Hebs & Schiehallion. | dbb | 14/06/2015 |

From Sallachan. After we left the right of way in Glen Gour we saw more Green Hairstreak butterflies than bootprints. The ascent felt as though it was against the grain of the land, though it was up the broad ESE ridge. Warm, sunny, fabulous visibility. | pwheeler | 24/05/2013 |

MC JC. A great wee peak that has impressive defences. All of its height is well earned. Approach via Glen Gour. HArd going through deep, wet grass and rocks and false tops. CAme across a grass snake. Return via same direction. JC came across a knot of about 10 adders. Loads of black butterflies, newts, frogs and some birds I did not recognise. | Martin66 | 19/08/2007 |

Cairngorm Club Easter meet based at Spean Bridge. With two fellow members. Across the Corran Ferry to the old bridge at Sallachan. From there we walked along the track up Glen Gour. Two swans were seen on Loch na Gabhar. Beyond the track end we crossed the River Gour near its confluence with Allt an t-Sluichd. We climbed a prominent grassy rake on the SE corner of Beinn na h-Uamha, not far from the burn confluence. Went up further grassy rakes, over point 460m* and so on to the summit of Beinn na h-Uamha. Returned to the valley bottom of the River Gour more directly, going a little S of SE. Followed the valley and the track back to the car. Good views of Ben Vair and Bidean nam Bian. *Note added 2016: named Stob an Uillt Dharaich on recent OS maps. | pwbellarby | 03/04/1993 |
