With Dangerous Dave. | Jill Robertson | 01/08/2023 |
Set off from Laga jetty with Ardnamurchan Charters. Boat ride costs £20 pp. Dropped off at 10:30 and picked up at 11:30. Back on the mainland by midday. There is a feint path through the trees and up the gully bringing you south of the trig bolt. The path continues steeply up to the summit. Back same way. With Jill. | Dangerous Dave | 01/08/2023 |
With Malky and Jackie. Some showers and breezy – no midges. | Rounsfell | 18/07/2020 |
Last minute switch of plans... Plan A Morven abandoned, Plan B Beinn Laga abandoned after lightbulb moment airing out at rain on the path start, is there a boat to Carna? Only few hundred meters along the road...by chance Andy was about to change over the cottage rental residents. Sat 9.30 is a good time as they switch guests and new ones arrive later in the day. From landing head up to conifers to a notch to the left of the main summit. Lots of rock at the top. Return by the right hand side under rocky outcrop. Reasonable vague paths, even managed to sit out the rain waiting for Andy to return in one of the cottages. | N.Morters | 18/05/2019 |
Ferried over by Andy from Ardnamurchan Charters, on his Saturday morning run to collect people from the holiday cottages. Up onto a vague ridge behind the barn finding a good path direct to the top. Harder to get to the pick up point near Eilean nan Eildean, which was easier for Andy on his pick up from Doirlinn. The descent from the summit ends in crags so had to back track to get an easier SW line with deer track. Hard going over the other bumps in knee deep heather with lots of little crags and boulder ruckles to dodge. Descent west before final bump on grass to a stream in trees, across this to a grassy area complete with a large Yurt. Picked up from the rocks just below this. 1.5 hours for the traverse. | Gill | 11/05/2019 |
Great boat trip across with Andy from Ardnamurchen charters. With fellow bagger Norman Wares and Mrs Massey. Under one hour return from the boat in decent conditions albeit a little wet underfoot. | bolton | 28/09/2018 |
By coincidence found I was sharing Andy's boat with another bagger, Phil Massey. Up and down in an hour then spent the afternoon on another 2 Marilyns. | NormanW | 28/09/2018 |
Thanks to Kevin and Barry for organising the transport, and to Andy the boatman for circumnavigating the island. Ascended east ridge. | Topographer57 | 12/06/2018 |
Andy from Ardnamurchan Charters took our trio of Jonathan, Barry an myself over for a tenner each. Good path up to the summit and a great boat trip around the Island afterwards from Andy with a lot of info given on flora and fauna and the history of the Island. | KevPalmer | 12/06/2018 |
went over with andy from ardnamurchan charters, andy and his family were going to see the 10 highland cattle they had recently put on the island. | robertphillips | 24/02/2018 |
Kayaked across to north of island from jetty at Laga. ( permission granted at fish farm). Superb still ,sunny day. Thrashed up through unfolding fern ,bluebells and deep heather to top. Bolt and small cairn. Continued kayaking around nearby islands. | Denise | 26/05/2016 |
By canoe from Laga to N side of island then Bracken and Heather to summit rock. | RichardM | 26/05/2016 |
Ardnamurchan Charters only £10 return! Very friendly and informative. Easy up to the summit. | AndrewFinnimore | 14/05/2016 |
From Laga with Jenx via Ardnamurchan Charters and Alan Jackson. Rang the number Martin R gives below in morning and he took just Jenx and me over for £10 each at 2pm same day. Dry weather helped, fine views from summit. Good chat with Alan about the plans to improve the island, watch his website for details of work parties. Crossing takes 30 mins. Up and down in an hour inc Northern summit. | nordicstar | 06/03/2016 |
Great craggy little top. Beautifully calm water and all very friendly. visitors welcome! | jenx | 06/03/2016 |
Logged before Douglas Law ;-) Ascent in the rain - landing was easy using the jetty. 99th SIB. | assynt_bob | 05/06/2015 |
Coastal Connection's covered RIB from Tobermory this morning to bag this island top in the rain. | Dugswell2 | 05/06/2015 |
Alan Holmes organised the trip. Pity about the rain. The covered rib made up for it. Great job.near the on the nose of the hill there was some of track but it was fairly muddy and had large steps on rocks. It was interesting coming down that again | tallblond | 05/06/2015 |
Very enjoyable company for this island visit, shame that the weather was not of the same calibre. | Alex C | 05/06/2015 |
Group charter with Coastal Connection, out of Tobermory. Revisit allowing summit Bolt (OS trig) to be bagged. NW summit more prominent than expected, couple of metres lower than main summit. Turns out the island is split ownership: we had permission from one not knowing about the second, who turned up while we were there and wasn't best pleased... | RHW | 05/06/2015 |
John Barnard's 1400th Marilyn | Galltywenallt | 30/03/2014 |
The puzzle of how to get on to the island was more easily solved than I thought it was going to be. Andy Jackson from Ardnamurchan Charters based in Laga is the caretaker for the holiday-let cottages on the island and he was doing some repairs. He gave me a lift there and back for a nominal contribution to the fuel costs.

From Laga with Marhofn group of 24 or so. Small groups ferried to a larger boat with lifejackets. Identified Eric Young, Richard Webb and Jamie Everett. Track across swamp and moor grass, through a gate, then steep clamber through heather to the top at 10.50, Neat cairn on highest boulder. Loch Sunart, Hiant, Resipol and Morvern Hills. 1,549th hill for one Marhofer. | arranc | 06/06/2009 |
