The weather cleared on my way home from Cowal and I couldn't resist an opportunistic reascent. All very enjoyable, with mist coming and going from the summitColin Crawford20/03/2024

Solo - up and down before 11am. Cloud at top.mproudfoot14/06/2020
Solo from layby. First time walking in snow above 750m - and stupidly without ice axe/crampons. Reached point after first steep section at approx. NN222 085 where only option was to continue as retracing steps likely to result in a slip on the hard snow off the rockface. After that, Old Man's Face (approx. NN218 080) only scary bit, but snow much deeper here and less likely to slip. Cloud was down at around 880m. Visited north summit then, I think, south summit before descending to top much further south. Easy, if very steep, grassy drop down to RaBT. Cruach Tairbeirt afterwards. Petrifying day - learned my lesson.iangpark23/03/2020

Afternoon ascent from Easain Dubh with JMcd in fine conditions, clouding up slowly on descent.barnz4830/09/2019
The NE ridge from Butterbridge CP (the route of the military road, leading over the stone bridge and mapped as a path is now tenanted by a marshy stream). A very enjoyable ridge walk over a series of scrambly steps. The views get better and better, with Cowal and Loch Fyne spreading out before you from the summit.Nick Down114/06/2019

Up and down the NE ridge from the layby. Warm, sunny and barely any wind made it thirsty work, but excellent clear views and some fun narrow arete and steep clambering sections. Still some quite large snow patches near the top which the path avoids.Owen B17/05/2018
Solo from just north of Loch Restil up the usual route. Spent 30 minutes at the top due to the glorious weather. Views down to Ailsa Craig, up the west coast including Jura and north to Nevis and beyond.Roblex16/05/2018

Bus to Rest and Be Thankful then N along road to Easan Dubh. NE ridge is great - path all the way, steep and scrambly in places. Two tops of almost equal height. Direct descent ESE from pt 834 very steep and horrible. Going slightly better once I hit the forest edge and picked up a faint path following it to the road.Mark Jackson22/08/2017

Ascent from rest and be thankful not to be recommended. Pathless and unrelentingly steep. Better to ascend via the North ridge which has a path and near the top a nice arete section with some airy drops. Excellent views of the other Arrochar Alps.PeteF06/06/2007

Alone. From Rest and Be Thankful, going straight up to minor S top, then the summit of Beinn an Lochain. There are two tops very close together, each with a cairn. It is not obvious which is higher so both were visited. The N one has a more prominent cairn and this agrees with Munro's Tables map reference although I am not convinced that this is the higher point†. It was fine initially with rain later. The descent was via the S top and then a more southerly route than on the ascent. † Note added 2020. A check on DBIH shows the more southerly one is higher.pwbellarby10/10/1986
