Up the usual NE ridge from the lay-by on the A83 S of Butterbridge. Very boggy low down but improving with altitude. Path incredibly eroded in places. Great hill though | Rockdoctor | 12/05/2022 |
solo | Munroist3935 | 18/03/2022 |

Solo - up and down before 11am. Cloud at top. | mproudfoot | 14/06/2020 |
Solo from layby. First time walking in snow above 750m - and stupidly without ice axe/crampons. Reached point after first steep section at approx. NN222 085 where only option was to continue as retracing steps likely to result in a slip on the hard snow off the rockface. After that, Old Man's Face (approx. NN218 080) only scary bit, but snow much deeper here and less likely to slip. Cloud was down at around 880m. Visited north summit then, I think, south summit before descending to top much further south. Easy, if very steep, grassy drop down to RaBT. Cruach Tairbeirt afterwards. Petrifying day - learned my lesson. | iangpark | 23/03/2020 |
Climbed monolithic grooves | Grimpeur1234 | 14/11/2019 |
Afternoon ascent from Easain Dubh with JMcd in fine conditions, clouding up slowly on descent. | barnz48 | 30/09/2019 |
The NE ridge from Butterbridge CP (the route of the military road, leading over the stone bridge and mapped as a path is now tenanted by a marshy stream). A very enjoyable ridge walk over a series of scrambly steps. The views get better and better, with Cowal and Loch Fyne spreading out before you from the summit. | Nick Down1 | 14/06/2019 |
After driving from Kirkby Stephen, Beautiful day., sunny and quite warm. Up and down in 2 hours 40 mins. | douglas_easton | 21/05/2019 |

Fromthe layby at 235089. Up the NE ridge with CM. The cloud cleared at the summit to give spectacular views. Just over 3 hours. | bolton | 23/05/2018 |
From A83 up NE ridge. With PM. | CJM | 23/05/2018 |
Up and down the NE ridge from the layby. Warm, sunny and barely any wind made it thirsty work, but excellent clear views and some fun narrow arete and steep clambering sections. Still some quite large snow patches near the top which the path avoids. | Owen B | 17/05/2018 |
Solo from just north of Loch Restil up the usual route. Spent 30 minutes at the top due to the glorious weather. Views down to Ailsa Craig, up the west coast including Jura and north to Nevis and beyond. | Roblex | 16/05/2018 |
The NE ridge route. Almost a perfect day to climb, sunny and a slight breeze. Some clamber sections. Steep and impressive in many parts. The final section looks great and was. | Jhimmy | 12/05/2018 |

Up and down the NE ridge on the obvious path | davidpettit84 | 08/10/2017 |
Bus to Rest and Be Thankful then N along road to Easan Dubh. NE ridge is great - path all the way, steep and scrambly in places. Two tops of almost equal height. Direct descent ESE from pt 834 very steep and horrible. Going slightly better once I hit the forest edge and picked up a faint path following it to the road. | Mark Jackson | 22/08/2017 |
Standard route from layby 2km north of the Rest and be thankful. | Robinho08 | 08/07/2017 |
I finally had to give up waiting for a nice day to climb this hill, but it's still a great walk even in rain and mist. Good path, easy rock steps and a nice ridge to finish. | Gill | 15/06/2017 |

From Easan Dubh - an easy Major. Started in finish weather, ended in a snow/hail storm. Used the well worn path, most of the time. Couldn't resist yomping down grassy slopes when available. | Martin R | 17/11/2012 |
Straight up to minor southern peak from Rest and be Thankful then along ridge to summit. Then out to Stob an eas via Beinn an t-Seilich. Returned to R&bT via NE shoulder (reached through bouldery section below cliffs on NW ridge) and NE ridge. | campagvelocet | 12/09/2012 |

Ascent from rest and be thankful not to be recommended.
Pathless and unrelentingly steep. Better to ascend via the North ridge which has a path and near the top a nice arete section with some airy drops. Excellent views of the other Arrochar Alps. | PeteF | 06/06/2007 |
Afternoon jaunt. | Grinner | 15/04/2007 |

Alone. From Rest and Be Thankful, going straight up to minor S top, then the summit of Beinn an Lochain. There are two tops very close together, each with a cairn. It is not obvious which is higher so both were visited. The N one has a more prominent cairn and this agrees with Munro's Tables map reference although I am not convinced that this is the higher point†. It was fine initially with rain later. The descent was via the S top and then a more southerly route than on the ascent.
† Note added 2020. A check on DBIH shows the more southerly one is higher. | pwbellarby | 10/10/1986 |
